Never before seen original ShadowHawk #1 with rare inks by Todd McFarlane gets the foil treatment for The Last ShadowHawk

Out of the archives comes a never-before-seen ShadowHawk #1 cover! This artwork was drawn by Jim Valentino and originally intended for the series’ launch in 1992—all before the iconic helmet cover came into play. Now, in celebration of Image‘s and ShadowHawk‘s 30th anniversary, this important piece of Image history will finally be brought to shelves and feature inks by Todd McFarlane and a special silver cold foil treatment. The Last ShadowHawk #1 1:100 copy incentive will be the first and only of Valentino’s ShadowHawk cover art ever inked by McFarlane.

The back cover will feature the original Rob Liefeld-inked artwork that Valentino ultimately used for the first printing of Shadowhawk #1 when the series premiered in 1992.

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of ShadowHawk #1 with writer/artist Philip Tan, co-writer Brian Haberlin, and inker Daniel Henriques.

In the not-too-distant future, the world will be just as it is today…only worse. Evil has permeated the very fabric of society, from the halls of government to the darkened alleyways. Will the heroes who once defended the downtrodden fail them now? Will a new generation rise, inspired by the last of the old? Who will be THE LAST SHADOWHAWK?

Last ShadowHawk #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, August 17.

Marvel and Rob Liefeld Celebrate 40 Years of New Mutants

Announced earlier this week, Marvel will celebrate the 40th anniversary of New Mutants with a giant-sized issue! Crafted by current series writer Vita Ayala, New Mutants #30 will be a collection of stories commemorating classic and new characters alike and feature artwork by talents such as Alex Lins, Jason Loo, Emma Kubert, and more. In honor of the book’s milestone year, Rob Liefeld, one of the New Mutants’ most impactful creators, will return to the title with a new variant cover!

Coming on board during the final issues of the original run of New Mutants, Liefeld transformed the title with the introduction of breakout characters like Deadpool, Cable, and Domino and evolved the group of mutant teen super heroes into the mutant strike team X-Force. Liefeld’s new cover gives fans a rare look at the superstar artist’s take on iconic New Mutants characters who departed the team prior to Liefeld’s launch of X-Force.

Check out the cover below and stay tuned for more announcements about this extraordinary issue of New Mutants coming in September!

Review: Deadpool: Bad Blood #1

Deadpool: Bad Blood #1

People are funny in the way that they don’t really let you know what they think of you unless they need to.  Rarely do those situations come up, and when they do, it is often tenuous.  As people are often aggrieved through micro aggressions, making whatever situation, uncomfortable. It is through these unspoken exchanges, that people often forget why they even dislike someone.

Most of these tiffs are not anything that would turn into any real conflict. Most are strong contempt towards someone off a perceived difference, one which most likely will never be confirmed. Sometimes they become more, and would lead to misfortune that you did not see coming. In Deadpool: Bad Blood #1, Wade gets some unnecessary beef with a foe who he has no idea how he offended him.

We find Wade as he just finishes a job in New York City, when Thumper comes out of nowhere beats him senseless, as nothing Deadpool could do , can slow the big man down. As Wade is at wit’s end, he seeks out Domino for help, as he tries to retrace why Thumper may be after him. This leads Domino to recall to a mission when they were on X-Force. By issue’s end, we find out this may be even more complicated than Wade believed in the first place, as he starts to regret his past mistakes.

Overall, Deadpool: Bad Blood #1 is a funny and action packed romp that shows Liefeld at his best. The story by the creative team is pure joy. The art by the creative team is masterful. Altogether, this story is why fans have always loved the Merc with a Mouth.

Shawn Levy is in Negotiations to Direct Deadpool 3

Deadpool

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Shawn Levy is in negotiations to direct Deadpool 3 for Marvel. The project would team Levy with star Ryan Reynolds again. The two previously worked on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The first film was directed by Tim Miller. The sequel was helmed by David Leitch.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will return to write the script for the third film having written the script for the first two. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin of Bob’s Burgers previously worked on a script for the film.

The Deadpool films are the top-grossing X-Men film so far with $783.1 million worldwide and the second earning $785.8 million worldwide. This is the first film under the Disney banner after the company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger said the third film would remain R-rated after concern of fans.

Deadpool is based on the character created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza for Marvel. The character debuted in New Mutants #98 which was released in February 1991.

But one he just can’t quite place is the brutal Thumper, who keeps showing up out of the blue to pound him into jelly. What is Deadpool’s past connection to this beefy face masher? Wade has as much of a clue as you do! So he decides to call in some help from an old friend: Domino! Can he and Domino get to the bottom of things before Deadpool meets his maker again?
