Review: Rivers of London #2.3

RiversOfLondon_03_Cover_B_ALTWith a Russian Night Witch in custody, Peter and Nightingale should be having a lot more luck chasing down a rogue Leshy – a murderous spirit of the forest. But when the Russian Mafia are involved, nothing goes smoothly! Even worse, Lesley is back in London – and it’s anyone’s guess as to her agenda!

Kidnapping, magic, and a possible re-ignition of something from the Cold War, that’s Rivers of London #2.3. A mysterious unnamed figure from Nightangale’s past returns, with an offer. Meanwhile Peter and her try to find the missing Russian child. They’re trying to uncover the truth of the kidnapping as well as find the child and the culprits.

I feel the more the writers Andrew Cartmel and Ben Aaronovitch seem to bring back the strange masked women, the more I’m curious to know why they chose to have her in a mask. While artistically well done by Lee Sullivan, it does leave one with questions about the woman. I do have one about the women on beautiful main cover; is she the water women from the first issue?

Review: Rivers of London Volume 1: Body work

Peter Grant looks look your average London police officer, but he is actually a part-time wizard in a very elite branch of the Metropolitan Police. It’s his job to investigate those crimes that regular cops don’t like to talk about because they often involve vampires or strange things in Underground tunnels.

Peter’s latest case features a self-driving killer automobile, a Serbian refugee, the Most Haunted Car in England, a handsome drug dealer with a nice paisley scarf and a seemingly harmless wooden bench with a dark past!

This collects the sell-out smash mini-series, Rivers of London: Body Work!

Part detective story, and part supernatural thriller. The story follows a haunted car, a murder, and an unnamed agency that specializes in magic/supernatural crimes. Of course nothing is as it seems as everything goes from a seemingly normal car accident, turns into something much more complicated.

While the magic is subtle for the most part, you can tell there is a reason for that. Given they operate with some degree of desecration in a modern world. The artist seems to understand that, and does his a great job to make the supernatural/magical world hidden, yet obvious. All that while maintaining a degree of realism to the world.
