McFarlane Toys’ My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo Nominated for Toy of the Year

My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo

McFarlane Toys has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2020 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Award, the industry’s highest achievement and one of its most revered accolades.

Selected as a finalist in the Action Figure of the Year category, McFarlane Toys’ My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo is one of a collection of licensed figures produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Television subsidiary Funimation and based on the global hit anime series “My Hero Academia” that chronicles a group of high school students training to be future superheroes. Katsuki Bakugo, not only the fan-favorite, arrogant, explosive character in the “My Hero Academia,” is also now a detailed, fully articulated figure.  With McFarlane Toys’ signature detail, revitalized articulation, and iconic character accuracy, it is no wonder the My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo figure is in the running for number one.

Now it’s YOUR chance to vote for McFarlane Toys’ My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo figure for Action Figure of the Year, along with the consumer-chosen People’s Choice Award. Each voter will be entered for a chance to win the TOTY Action Figure of The Year toy prize package. Between now and January 5, 2020,  McFarlane Toys and “My Hero Academia” fans can vote at  www.ToyAwards.org

Established by The Toy Association, the TOTY Awards are known as the “Oscars” of the toy industry. The program is also a vital fundraiser for The Toy Foundation, which annually delivers toys to millions of children in need.

Winners in each category, as well as the coveted overall Toy of the Year winner and the People’s Choice winner (based solely on consumer votes), will be announced at the TOTY Awards gala on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The celebration will kick off Toy Fair New York and include the induction of three trailblazers into the esteemed Toy Industry Hall of Fame.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Launches this July from VIZ

VIZ Media has announced a new series set in the world of the bestselling manga series My Hero Academia with the release of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes on July 3rd.

The new comedy-action series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been highly anticipated by manga readers. The series is rated ‘T’ for Teens and will be published in print and digital editions under the Shonen Jump imprint. The print MSRP for Volume 1 will be $9.99 U.S. / $12.99 CAN. Digital editions will be available via viz.com and the VIZ Manga App, as well as from the Nook, Kobo, Kindle, iBooks, comiXology, and Google Play stores.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes features story by Hideyuki Furuhashi and artwork by Betten Court and is based on original concepts by My Hero Academia series creator Kohei Horikoshi. Future volumes of the series will be published every four months.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is set in a superpowered society, where there is nothing ordinary about evil anymore. Heroes, trained and licensed to protect and defend the public against supervillains, stand above all the rest. Not everyone can be a hero, however, and there are those who would use their powers to serve the people without legal sanction. But do they fight for justice in the shadows, or for reasons known only to themselves? Whatever they fight for, they are called…vigilantes.

SDCC 2018: My Hero Academia’s Creator Kohei Horikoshi is Appearing at the Show Courtesy of VIZ Media

VIZ Media will welcome My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi for his first-ever North American professional appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

Kohei Horikoshi is scheduled to participate in a variety of events during the convention including the official My Hero Academia panel discussion. The panel will feature several notable voice actors including Christopher R. Sabat, voice of All Might, and Justin Briner, voice of Deku, from the anime adaptation of the popular series. The creator will also be a part of VIZ Media’s Weekly Shonen Jump panel. A pair of autograph sessions are also scheduled to take place during the show. Event times and additional information will be announced soon.

San Diego Comic-Con is one of the nation’s largest comic book, science fiction, and pop culture events, and will take place July 18th–22nd at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, CA. VIZ Media will be located in Booth #2813.

Kohei Horikoshi was born in Aichi, Japan, in 1986. He received a Tezuka Award Honorable Mention in 2006, and after publishing several short stories in Akamaru Jump, his first serialized work in Weekly Shonen Jump was Oumagadoki Doubutsuen in 2010. BARRAGE and his current series, MY HERO ACADEMIA are published in English by VIZ Media.

My Hero Academia asks… What would the world be like if 80 percent of the population manifested superpowers called “Quirks”? Heroes and villains would be battling it out everywhere! Being a hero would mean learning to use your power, but where would you go to study? The Hero Academy of course! But what would you do if you were one of the 20 percent who were born Quirkless?

An instant best seller, My Hero Academia has also been adapted into a hit anime series available from Funimation; the Season 3 SimulDub is currently streaming. My Hero Academia Volume 13 will be available in print and digital editions this June. Free chapters of the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, inspired by the massively popular manga, are currently available.
