Exclusive: Dark Horse Books Presents Mœbius Library: The Major in 2024

Arriving for the first time in English, Dark Horse Books presents Mœbius Library: The Major. This latest volume in the Mœbius Library series toys with one of its most famous characters. Mœbius Library: The Major features writing and art by legendary creator Jean “Mœbius” Giraud, translation by Diana Schutz, and lettering by Adam Pruett.

The Major is a psychedelic, sequential romp created by Mœbius between 1997 and 2009, following a production principle that embraces graphic spontaneity and improvisation. The lead character of this pseudo-story, Major Grubert, evolves in a humorous yet philosophical manner, echoing how Mœbius’ creations are treated in the Inside Mœbius series.

Join the Major on his last trip to the nebula of The Airtight Garage, where Mœbius rules as the playful Trickster of legend. What begins as a comical jaunt into unusually profound philosophical questions regarding the nature of existence, eventually winds up as a penetrating examination of the relationship between the author and his creation, the latter of whom must necessarily suffer at the heartless whim of his creator, despite the Major’s passionate desire for real life—and even freedom—beyond these comics!

The Mœbius Library: The Major hardcover will arrive in bookstores February 6, 2024 and in comic shops February 7, 2024. The 184-page volume, measuring 8.375 x 10.875”, is available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and at your local comic book shop and bookstore and will retail for $39.99.

Alejandro Jodorowsky, Zoran Janjetov & Fred Beltran

The cosmic adventures of a young boy on his path to ridding the galaxy of an insidious technological plague.

After the Greek tragedy of “The Metabarons,” Alexandro Jodorowsky comes back to his biblical roots with this quest reminiscent of Moses and set on a galactic scale. To top it off, the characters and the theme of virtual reality are tailor-made for artist Zoran Janjetov (“Before The Incal”), who finds in Jodorowsky his perfect match. Albino, hero of this space odyssey, remembers here his childhood, his apprenticeship, and the big and small battles he had to fight to fulfill his ambitions in a universe where technological advances are paradoxically matched only by the cruelty and the barbarism of the forces controlling it.

Humanoids To Publish All New Graphic Novels in The Incal Universe

The Incal by legendary writer Alejandro Jodorowsky and internationally acclaimed artist Mœbius was a shot across the bow of graphic storytelling, an epic explosion of staggering art, mind-blowing worldbuilding, and ambitious plotting that combined to make one of the most influential comics of all time. Now, 42 years after its initial publication—and with a major movie adaptation in the works from award-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi—Humanoids will publish all-new original graphic novels in The Incal Universe, building on the original, seminal graphic novel. Next May Humanoids will publish the Free Comic Book Day: The Incal Universe Special, which previews three new titles: Psychoverse by Mark Russell and Yanick Paquette; Dying Star by Dan Watters and Jon Davis-Hunt; and Kill Wolfhead by Brandon Thomas and Pete Woods.

The Incal is widely regarded as one of the great achievements of the comics medium, and is the highest-selling science fiction graphic novel of all time.

In The Incal, John Difool, a low-class detective in a degenerate, dystopian world, finds his life turned upside down when he discovers an ancient, mystical artifact called “the Incal.” Difool’s adventures will bring him into conflict with the galaxy’s greatest warrior, the Metabaron, and will pit him against the awesome powers of the Technopope. These encounters and many more make up a tale of comic and cosmic proportions that has Difool fighting for not only his very survival, but also the survival of the entire universe.

Humanoids will be releasing more details about The Incal Universe graphic novels in the months ahead.

SUNEATER #1

(W) Dylan Sprouse, Joe Harris (A) Diego Yapur (CA) Brian Stelfreeze
Cover Price: $4.99

From actor and entrepreneur Dylan Sprouse, Suneater #1 kicks off a nine-issue saga that takes place in ninth century Norway, where a drug-addled warrior sacrifices his leg to the Gods.  In return he is fused with a parasitic beast, giving him the power to rescue his son from his sworn enemies—history’s first Norwegian king and his five personal guards. The result is a grim and bloody adventure—a dark metaphor for drug addiction, selfishness, and the children it affects.

“I love fantasy-action and I wanted to create something that would appeal to newer fans of the genre while tackling an elevated story,” said Sprouse. “The characters I wrote are from actual tales and bardic songs, and the story is about the adult, dark, grotesque, and somber world of Suneater and its desperate, faulty protagonist. While I have been actively writing Suneater for years, the culmination of the content rings especially true for me now, at this stage of my life.”
