[TRUE BLOOD: Series 2 #1 cover] San Diego, CA (December 8, 2010) – IDW Publishing and HBO are pleased to announce the next step for the mega-hit comic series TRUE BLOOD. After record breaking sales, the TRUE BLOOD comic book series continues in February 2011 with a brand new story. Actor Michael McMillian, who plays Fellowship of the Sun leader Reverend Steve Newlin, will co-author the all-new six-issue arc with fan-favorite writer Marc Andreyko. Also in February, IDW will launch the hardcover collection of its first TRUE BLOOD story arc, ALL TOGETHER NOW. This compilation of all six issues from the first series of the comics will also feature bonus content, including original sketches and a cover gallery.

“Co-Writing the TRUE BLOOD comic is a dream come true both as a performer on the show and as longtime comic fan. It’s a real privilege to build on the rapidly growing True Blood mythology,” said McMillian. Continued Andreyko: “Words can’t express how excited I am to be writing this with Michael. We’re doing our damndest to spin a tale that fans of the show, and comics readers, will drink up like blood!”

As with the first arc, IDW’s new TRUE BLOOD comic series will be based on the intriguing world of Bon Temps, offering fans an original story with their favorite characters. In this six-issue series, Jessica is exposed to contaminated bottles of Tru Blood, causing the lovely vampire to go berserk. It’s up to Sookie, Bill and the others to figure out who (or what) is behind the bad Blood. In addition to Jessica, several other Bon Temp residents are making their comic book debut including Hoyt, Terry, Arlene and Steve Newlin.

Joining McMillian and Andreyko is artist Joe Corroney, who will bring this latest head-turning series to life. Corroney, along with superstar artist, J. Scott Campbell, will provide covers.

Added McMillian, “Marc and I are working hard to make sure the series feels like an extension of the show. True Blood fans should expect lots of action, gore, sex, humor and of course, awesome cliffhangers!”

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the amazing success of the comics and are excited that the release of the comic collection will make the series even more accessible to fans,” stated show creator Alan Ball. “Michael and Marc have done an amazing job with the second series, crafting a thrilling story that will leave Trubies wanting more.”

IDW’s first TRUE BLOOD series, ALL TOGETHER NOW, will be offered in deluxe, hardcover form and available in bookstores nationwide. Featuring the same erotically-charged romance, wry humor, intriguing mystery and [TRUE BLOOD: ALL TOGETHER NOW cover] suspense the show has become known for, the story treats readers to new insights of their favorite characters. Developed with show creator Alan Ball, along with series writers Elisabeth Finch and Kate Barnow, ALL TOGETHER NOW was co-written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner. The series was beautifully illustrated by top tier artist David Messina, with additional art by renowned artists J. Scott Campbell, Joe Corroney, and Andrew Currie.

In addition to the print editions, the comic collection and the second series will be available digitally through Sony’s Digital Comics Store and Apple’s iTunes Store.

Review – Lucid #2

I really enjoyed the first issue of the series and Lucid #2 upped my enjoyment. The entire issue focuses on an assassination attempt on the President, and when magic gets involved things get pretty interesting.

Things are heating up at the House at Dupont Circle! What is the Prophecy of the Pendragon? What Occult weapon threatens the fate the United States…for the second time? And what exactly is an Astral Amplifier?! LUCID #2 takes you one more giant leap into the strange world of Matthew Dee as the novice Combat Mage races against the clock to prevent President’s Day from becoming a National Day of Mourning! Written by “True Blood” actor Michael McMillian and illustrated by newcomer Anna Wieszczyk, LUCID is Archaia’s first title published in association with Zachary Quinto (“Heroes,” “Star Trek”) and his company, Before the Door.

The series written by Michael McMillian is entertaining. The pacing is good and action solid. There’s nothing too deep here, but it’s just an action movie you can check your mind at the door and just read and enjoy. That’s not a bad thing at all.

Anna Wieszcyk‘s art is pretty cool with an interesting anime feel to it. My only complaint is the faces of the men are all pretty similar, though each character is distinguishable.

This was In the Line of Fire with magic thrown in. Pretty simple really, but very entertaining. This is a series I look forward to reading each time I see it hit the releases.

Review – Lucid #1

Lucid was a comic that I thought sounded interested, and as usual with most of the Archaia comics I read, it meets and exceeds my expectations. Lucid #1 is a fun, interesting and creative read.

Written by Michael McMillian with art by Anna Wieszczyk the story follows a clandestine government agency which mixes technology and magic to protect the world. This is James Bond, but with magic.

Welcome to the world of LUCID, the highly anticipated, action-packed, pop-fantasy, four-issue miniseries that draws inspiration from the spy genre, Arthurian legend and 21st-century folklore! Dark forces are conspiring to prevent humankind from reaching its true potential. Thankfully, as newly appointed “Protector of the Realm,” Agent Matthew Dee uses his skills as a covert spy and Combat Mage to ensure America’s freedom from the grip of evil. In the debut issue: Who is Waylan Gheely, and what forbidden power has he stolen? What ancient evil, banished two millennia ago by Merlin himself, threatens to consume our dimension? What presence lurks in the shadows behind it all? And just who is The Secretary of Secrets? Written by “True Blood” actor Michael McMillian and illustrated by newcomer Anna Wieszczyk, LUCID is Archaia’s first title published in association with Zachary Quinto (“Heroes,” “Star Trek”) and his company, Before the Door.

The story is very cool, immediately throwing you into the action. I loved the magic versus aspect of the series and it’s a great mash-up of so many different things that’ve come before. It’s Men in Black, James Bond and Arthurian Legend all rolled into one.

A fun, entertaining read, and a definite buy.

OVER 40 ARCHAIA WRITERS AND ARTISTS WILL BE ON HAND TO MEET FANS, SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AND OFFER EXCLUSIVE ITEMS

Los Angeles, CA (July 20, 2010) – In anticipation of the largest gathering in North America of comic book and pop culture fans, Archaia Entertainment announced it will be hosting over 40 writers and artists for autograph sessions and meet-and-greet opportunities at its booth at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif., to be held July 22-25, 2010 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Guests of special note include Brian Froud, a veteran of The Jim Henson Company, who will be on hand to sign exclusive posters for the upcoming Dark Crystal comics; actor/writer Michael McMillian (“True Blood”), who will sign copies of Lucid #1, the first comic to come from the partnership between Before the Door and Archaia; actor/writer/producer/director Dan Fogler (“Fanboys,” “Balls of Fury”), who will be signing a preview book of the upcoming Moon Lake, a hardcover anthology of comedic horror stories; Eisner Award-winning creator David Petersen, who’ll be on hand to sign copies of Mouse Guard; Tom Siddell, who will sign copies of the two volumes of Gunnerkrigg Court; Matz, the Eisner Award-nominated writer who will sign copies of The Killer, a popular series originally published in France that has captivated American readers; and Eisner Award-nominated writer Phil Hester, who will sign copies of the Archaia and Roddenberry Productions hardcover, Days Missing. Los Angeles, CA (July 8, 2010) – Looking to deliver the best experience for their fans attending Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif. and to capture an even larger audience of its high-quality line of publications, the show organizers granted Archaia Entertainment five diverse panels at the convention, loaded with special guests, exclusive sneak peeks and advance information on upcoming titles.

Over a dozen projects and up to 20 creators will be highlighted during Archaia’s panels. Guests of special note include Brian Froud, a veteran of The Jim Henson Company who will be on hand to discuss his involvement in the forthcoming Dark Crystal and Labyrinth comics; actor/producer Zachary Quinto (“Star Trek, “Heroes”) and actor/writer Michael McMillian (“True Blood”), who will speak about Lucid, the first comic to come from the partnership between Quinto’s company, Before the Door, and Archaia; actor/writer/producer/director Dan Fogler (“Fanboys,” “Balls of Fury”), who will unveil a sneak peek of the upcoming Moon Lake, a hardcover anthology of comedic horror stories; Eisner Award-winning creator David Petersen, who’ll be on hand to talk about the current Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard series and preview the upcoming Mouse Guard: The Black Axe; Tom Siddell, creator of the popular Gunnerkrigg Court Web comic and books; Matz, the Eisner Award-nominated writer of The Killer, a popular series originally published in France that has captivated American readers; and Eisner Award-nominated writer Phil Hester, who will talk about his involvement with the sequel to the critically acclaimed Archaia and Roddenberry Productions series, Days Missing: Kestus.

ARCHAIA AND BEFORE THE DOOR UNVEIL FINAL COVER TO ‘LUCID’ #1

FIRST TITLE FROM PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN ARCHAIA AND ZACHARY QUINTO’S COMPANY TO DEBUT IN AUGUST

Los Angeles, CA (July 2, 2010) – With fans eagerly anticipating the debut of Archaia Entertainment and Before the Door’s first joint comic project, the two companies proudly unveiled the final cover to the first issue of LUCID, which will debut in August in comic book shops, with advance copies available at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Calif., July 22-25, 2010.

Lucid is a four-issue miniseries written and illustrated by newcomers Michael McMillian and Anna Wieszczyk, who also drew the cover. McMillian is a longtime comics fan and no stranger to the entertainment industry, having recently appeared on the hit HBO series “True Blood” and as a recurring regular on the Amanda Bynes CW television series, “What I Like About You.” McMillian is the creator of Lucid and this is his first written comic work. Wieszczyk is based in Poland and her short story, “Acid Sunset,” was recently published in Popgun Anthology Vol. 4. She is also currently working on Halo8’s Godkiller motion comic.

“We’ve been lucky at Archaia to help usher new creative entities into the comics industry, and one of our most rewarding partnerships has been working with Before the Door to develop Lucid,” said Archaia Editor-in-Chief Stephen Christy. “In Lucid, Michael McMillian and Anna Wieszczyk dove not only into the world of modern magic, but this history of magic throughout western culture as well, all wrapped up in a day-glo, über-pop comic book that looks unlike anything else on the stands today. I’m very proud we’re finally able to share this fantastic comic with readers!”

Lucid follows the adventures of Matthew Dee, a Combat Mage and covert spy whose skills earn him the appointment of “Protector of the Realm” by the President of the United States. Dee’s mission is to protect America from the grip of dark forces that are conspiring to prevent humankind from reaching its true Magic potential.

“Lucid is my attempt to exorcise a lifelong love affair with comics, swashbuckler action adventures and an unhealthy fixation with fantasy,” shared McMillian, who developed the idea over the course of two years. “Matthew Dee is a pulp hero for the 21st century and I’m very excited Archaia and Before the Door have given me the opportunity to create a new world for him to explore.”

“Michael’s intense passion for comics dovetails perfectly with our mission to tell moving and engaging stories,” said Zachary Quinto (“Heroes,” “Star Trek”). With Before the Door producing partners Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson, Quinto recruited Michael to work with them on their first comic book project. “Lucid was born from Michael’s imagination and developed organically though his collaboration with Before the Door. Along with the enthusiasm and commitment of Archaia, we are proud to present Lucid to comic book fans worldwide.”

Lucid #1 (full color, 24 pages, $3.95, Diamond Order Code JUN10 0745) debuts in comic shops in August 2010.

Archaia and Before the Door are also developing the comic project Mr. Murder Is Dead, written by Victor Quinaz, about a retired top cop who becomes the prime suspect when a not-so-nice man, once nicknamed Mr. Murder, is found dead.
