The Walking Dead All Out War GlennMantic Games has revealed more details about their upcoming The Walking Dead: All Out War miniature game. The game has you taking control of a group of survivors, some of the well known characters from the series like Rick, Michonne, Shane, and more.

The characters for the game will come with cards that has their name, abilities, health, and role withing the group. Roles include things like “Leader” which give abilities like providing actions to other members of your group. Stats show how good you are at firing weapons, fighting, or defending, and represented by color dice which are six sided.

The Walking Dead All Out War DaleInterestingly characters have a “nerve level” which controls how well they react to the Walkers. This also has a “threat level” function that modifies events in the game.

You can also expect special rules too based on specific characters, think Rick and Carl.

Mantic has said the game will be a Kickstarter project, with the figures being single piece plastic miniatures. The figures are made to make them easier to paint.

While you control a small group, the game is built on points which you use to buy characters and equipment. Starter games will have 2-4 figures a side and a standard game will be 6-10 figures per side.

The game will be released later this year, but the Kickstarter launches this February.

Mantic Reveals Dale and Details for The Walking Dead: All Out War

The Walking Dead All Out War DaleMantic Games is giving us a week of updates about their brand new miniature game The Walking Dead: All Out War.

The game is a head-to-head game with zombies acting through AI control. AI also means you can play the game solo, a nice bonus for fans of tabletop miniature games.

The game allows you to play as popular characters from The Walking Dead comics such as Rick, Shane, Michonne, Dale, Carl, and many more.

The figures will be released in plastic, allowing players to paint them as they choose. They will also include character cards with stats. You’ll be able to upgrade your group with equipment and weapons.

Play is on a mat which features barricades, abandoned cars and supplies to help build the atmosphere. Movement is through a measuring stick and terrain is a factor in the game.

The Walking Dead: All Out War Miniature Game in February. First look at Carl.

TWD-02We’ve been following the announcement this week that Mantic Games will be producing a miniature game based on the hit comic book series The Walking Dead. The company has been slowly pulling back pieces of the puzzle teasing out just a little bit of information at a time about the game dubbed The Walking Dead: All Out War.

First there was a teaser.

Next there was the announcement.

Third there was a video talking more in depth as to what we can expect.

All throughout the company has been encouraging folks to sign up for their email list to get more information. Well, the first email has gone out announcing a whole week of previews on the game and miniatures beginning on Monday.

But, the big question is, when is all of this coming out? In their recent email the company says:

We hope you’ve been saving your Christmas money for February ;) #TWDMinis

It looks like Mantic is being smart aiming for the games release in February judging by that. That’s the same month when The Walking Dead television series (the game is based on the comic) returns for the second half of the current season. The comic book series also sees its 150th issue released this coming week on January 13th. Writer Robert Kirkman has hinted the comic will end in a “shocking way” and there’s hints folks will finally turn on Rick. That makes issue #151, out in February (currently solicited as releasing February 3), a key issue and likely solid start for new readers.

Can we be seeing actual decent synergy and marketing!?

Even more fun, the company sent a different newsletter in Italian. That newsletter had more information including a first look at Carl Grimes and a zombie dubbed “wandering.”

Stay tuned, as we find out more about what looks like an exciting new game.

The Walking Dead: All Out War Comes to Tabletop Miniatures

TWD-zombies02-urban-cropped05-600x352The announcement was teased earlier this week, but Mantic Games has announced they’ll be bringing the entertainment juggernaut that is The Walking Dead to tabletops in the form of a miniature game. The company announced on their blog yesterday that they have obtained the license.

The license gives the company the ability to mine the comic book series for material for the game, the television series would be different.

From the blog post:

The Walking Dead: All Out War will be set in the engaging and immersive post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead comic series. Having the comic license gives us far more freedom to reproduce from all the rich and evocative artwork, and over 149 issues of the comics. This offered the biggest choice of factions and characters – in fact the widest scope possible to explore the setting and heroes. Finally the comic license also gives us direct access to the Skybound team, and insight into the world by the people who actually created it! We will bring the pages to life with fantastic models that will cry out to be painted, slick game play and it’ll all be part of an awesomely fun gaming experience.

Mantic’s goal was to find a property that people were passionate about and you didn’t need a ton of models to get folks interested in the painting/modeling aspect too. That led the company to The Walking Dead.

What stands out to me is the choice of title for the game. All Out War refers to a specific storyline that featured Rick’s group pitted against various other factions, more the living fighting the living than any versus the undead.

Some rumors of gameplay have leaked out on forums including the concept would have zombies being more of a random factor than what one side is playing, as well as ammo being limited, both sound very interesting.

The Walking Dead: All Out War will be coming to tabletops some time in 2016.
