Brian K. Vaughan Signs a Deal with Legendary Entertainment

Comic book, television, and film writer Brian K. Vaughan has signed a three year overall deal with Legendary Entertainment. This is the first of this sort of deal for Vaughan and plays to Legendary’s finders in television, movies, as well as comics.

Legendary will adapt some of Vaughan’s creator-owned comics as well as exclusive original projects developed by Vaughan.

Vaughan is a celebrated comic creator and created or co-created such series as Saga, Paper Girls, Ex Machina, Barrier, and We Stand on Guard.

Currently, his classic Y: The Last Man is being adapted by FX and Marvel’s Runaways, which he created, will see its second season soon debut on Hulu. Vaughan also was one of the writers for Lost and developed Stephen King’s Under the Dome for CBS.

Oni Press, Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris’ My Boyfriend is a Bear is Optioned by Legendary Entertainment

Oni Press and Oni Entertainment have announced that My Boyfriend is a Bear by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris has been optioned by Legendary Entertainment. Oni Entertainment will executive produce alongside writer Pamela Ribon and Alex Hertzberg, with illustrator Cat Farris to co-produce. Pamela is also attached as screenwriter.

My Boyfriend is a Bear is an absurdist, modern romance story that follows Nora, who—after a succession of terrible boyfriends finds—true love with the most unexpected of suitors: a 500-pound American Black Bear. They’ll soon discover that hipster neighbors, judgmental friends, and Bear’s impending need for hibernation will put their relationship to the ultimate test.

IDW Statement Regarding Bob Schreck

San Diego, CA (November 3, 2010) – IDW Publishing today announced that senior editor Bob Schreck has left the company. Schreck is now the Editor in Chief for Legendary Comics, a new division of Legendary Entertainment.

“We appreciate all the hard work Bob has done for IDW, and are sad to see him go,” said IDW CEO, Ted Adams. “But this is a great opportunity for Bob, and we wish him the best of luck.”

Schreck joined IDW as senior editor in October 2009, after leaving DC Comics. During his time with IDW, Schreck was editor for several different series, including WITCH & WIZARD, STRANGE SCIENCE FANTASY and the MGM MIDNIGHT MOVIES line. He was also editor and writer for JURASSIC PARK: REDEMPTION.
