Dreadquarters, a New Supervillain Tabletop Game from Headlock Games launches in April

Dreadquarters

Evil has never required this much teamwork. From the wicked minds of Headlock Games comes Dreadquarters, a 1-4 player strategy game of villainous cooperation and tactical defense, launching on Kickstarter April 7, 2026.

In Dreadquarters, players take on the roles of supervillains who have been “strongly encouraged” to cooperate while establishing a new shared evil lair. Each villain brings their own unique deck of cards, playstyle, minions, and objectives. Objectives include building doomsday devices, harvesting souls, and hatching insect swarms all while working together to defend your lair from waves of do-gooders aiming to destroy it.

15+ artists have contributed to Dreadquarters, each bringing their own distinct style and imagination to its world of villains. Every card, token, and board is a piece of original art, handcrafted without the use of any AI.

Each round, players expand their wing of the lair with bizarre rooms, reinforce them with over-engineered upgrades, and deploy their minions to work stations, city raids, or last stands.

When the heroes arrive, the villains’ traps trigger, and combat erupts. Everything either works together beautifully or collapses. With dozens of villains, cities, and scenario combinations, no two lairs will ever look, or collapse, the same.

Dreadquarters plays in 60-120 minutes and is recommended for ages 14 and up.

  • Villain Deck Expansion

Exclusive: Jonathan Djob Nkondo’s Peaceful Remission and Wandering Deluxe Slipcase Cover Revealed!

Oni Press and Magnetic Press will soon be launching a Kickstarter campaign for Worlds Between Worlds – two stand-alone graphic novels written and drawn by internationally acclaimed animator and artist Jonathan Djob Nkondo, who is known for his work on Scavengers Reign, League of LegendsLove, Death & Robots, and several short works for FXX and MTV. Peaceful Remission and Wandering represent two distinct, introspective approaches to science fiction from a master of the craft.

In 2025, the celebrated animated series Scavengers Reign premiered on HBO, earning acclaim for its breathtaking, eerie world‑building and introducing fans to the art of Jonathan Djob Nkondo, whose work as an animator, storyboard artist, director, and designer helped shape the show’s atmosphere and tone. Nkondo’s clean and fluid linework, meditative pacing, and his fascination with the unspoken inner lives of characters are woven deeply into Scavengers Reign and all of his work. Nkondo is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary animation, and now, U.S. readers can dive into his breathtaking comics as the Worlds Between Worlds crowdfunding campaign will offer readers an intimate look at the ideas and aesthetics that have made his animation work so compelling.

Set in a sleek satellite home orbiting Earth, Peaceful Remission follows elderly couple Marlène and Jerry Nomo, whose quiet life is disrupted by a mysterious nighttime rumble. But the real tension lies not in the noise but in Marlène’s simmering frustration with Jerry’s passivity. The incident becomes a catalyst for emotional confrontation, revealing the cracks in their long-standing relationship. When Jerry’s obsession with a recent discovery leaves Marlene responsible for his health and well-being, their seemingly ordinary tasks—shopping, driving, caregiving—are refracted through a futuristic lens, emphasizing the emotional weight of routine and the quiet heroism of unspoken love. Encapsulating themes of conjugal fatigue, silent devotion, and the illusion of tranquility, this surreal, contemplative work is told through clean, futuristic interiors contrasted with intimate character framing. In this fragmented yet lyrical tale that alternates between dialogue and silent observation, Nkondo uses the sterile calm of space as a metaphor for emotional distance, crafting a story that feels both timeless and eerily current.

Set in a world where the surface has become a vast, arid desert dotted with strange geometric creatures and billabongs, Wandering imagines a society that has retreated underground. Beneath the scorched crust, life continues in sprawling subterranean complexes—theaters, malls, food courts, and highway interchanges—forming a claustrophobic echo of the world above. Nkondo weaves a visionary story following the wandering paths of two men, each shaped by their respective environments—one in the arid wastelands above, and one in the urban sprawl below the surface. Though they never meet, their lives mirror and resonate with each other, creating a haunting sense of synchronicity and missed connection. Themes of alienation, routine, freedom, and the trappings of modern life turn this textless, nonlinear, and atmospheric graphic novel into an unsettling contemplation of the trappings we choose to surround ourselves with.

Peaceful Remission and Wandering will both presented as unique, unwrapped hardcovers, with exposed binding and a color cardstock sleeve encasing each book. This somewhat-raw design juxtaposes a “scavenged” artifact feel with the sleek futuristic elements within each story setting. These 6.5×9” greyscale graphic novels are true works of art, which will also be available in a Limited Box Set featuring a sturdy illustrated slipcase, a signed and numbered bookplate, and a limited edition 48-page softcover art book by Nkondo.

We have the exclusive reveal of the cover for the deluxe slipcase featuring the two graphic novels. Check out all of the covers below and make sure to sign up on Kickstarter so you don’t miss out when it launches.

Exclusive: Magnetic Press’ 7-Volume Graphic Novel Series Freak’s Squeele Trailer Revealed!

Magnetic Press is bringing Florent Maudoux’s manga-inspired and darkly stylish action adventure series Freaks’ Squeele to Kickstarter with an ambitious and artful crowdfunding campaign. Florent Maudoux’s critically acclaimed, seven-volume series has gained legions of fans around the world since its debut in 2008 by drawing inspiration from RPGs, Hong Kong cinema, and classical art to create a wildly inventive comic saga that brings manga flair, western comic grit, and Franco-Belgian charm into one gloriously chaotic universe. You can support it now on Kickstarter!

Freaks' Squeele

In Freak’s Squeele, the world is populated by demons, werewolves, gods, and mutants, many of whom are descendants of ancient mythological beings, and super-heroism is a regulated profession, like being a lawyer or doctor. Aspiring heroes must attend accredited universities, where they study combat and ethics and compete in duels and tournaments, often with lethal consequences. These events are broadcast and monetized, turning heroism into spectacle. The series follows three freshmen students — Chance, Li Xiong Mao, and Shadow — who must navigate these trials and tribulations while uncovering conspiracies, surviving sabotage, and managing the popularity of their identities.

Originally published by Ankama Éditions in France, Magnetic Press’ publication of Freaks’ Squeele marks the series’ American debut. The Kickstarter campaign features over 1,000 pages of story in seven Freaks’ Squeele hardcovers, as well as an artbook and a limited edition “Dorm Footlocker” storage box for collectors. Fans can support Freaks’ Squeele on Kickstarter!

The union prevailed with an impressive list of protections and improvement to employment.

They codified a Four-Day Workweek, with strong protections if management tries to force them to revert to a five-day workweek.

  • Temporary changes to Five-Day Workweek must be justified, with notice in advance, and a time limit
  • Permanent changes to Five-Day Workweek must involve bargaining with the union
  • If management tries to force it anyway, they can strike

They won strong provisions to raise their minimum salary floor considerably!

  • An escalating increase in the pay floor based on cost of living, an average 6% increase to the most undervalued workers
  • A one-time $6,000 bonus for the most undervalued workers
  • Yearly national benchmarking to push pay upwards across the whole unit

They won many improvements to their working conditions with no regressions in our worker protections!

  • Cannot replace a role with AI, and management must work with employees if AI changes a role
  • Strong protections against replacing full time employees with contractors
  • More input from employees with a regular forum for business operations

Congrats to the union and everyone that participated and supported them.
