KABOOM! 2014 SUMMER BLAST for Free Comic Book Day MOUSE GUARD, LABYRINTH, AND OTHER STORIES A HARDCOVER ANTHOLOGY

Rise of the Magi: A dark fantasy for Free Comic Book Day

The world as we know it is at risk because the world we don’t see—the one that makes ours possible—is on the brink of destruction. From Top Cow Productions, Marc Silvestri, founder and partner at Image Comics, and artist Sumeyye Kesgin present a new fantasy adventure series set in both the worlds—magical and mundane—in which we live.

A small black sphere contains all the magic that exists—past, present, and future. Without it, two worlds would not survive. But someone has done the unimaginable—stolen a piece of the sphere and fled from the world of magic into the world of man.

Now only the very common Asa Stonethrow can find him. Asa thought saving two worlds was great enough a burden… until he meets a girl. “The unfamiliar, the uncomfortable, and the things that scare us are what make us grow as people,” said Silvestri. “It’s safe then to say that in Rise of the Magi, Asa and a cast of characters both strange and familiar, will be doing a LOT of growing.”

The Magi are awake and they are legion, and only seven magicians, sorcerers, thieves, and killers can stop them. But as Asa will soon find out, among thieves, there is no honor.

Rise of the Magi #0 will be available on Free Comic Book Day on 5/2, followed by Rise of the Magi #1 in late May.

Marvel Entertainment to Speak at TEDxTEEN 2014!

This Saturday, March 1st, 2014, the We Are Family Foundation will host the 5th TEDxTeen conference at Scholastic’s unique auditorium in New York City.  This year TEDxTeen provides the setting for important and provoking topics such as empowerment, action, perseverance, possibility and Marvel’s own Sana Amanat, editor of Ms. Marvel, Elektra, Captain Marvel and New Warriors, will be presenting “Myths, Misfits & Masks” at the end of Session 1 of the TEDxTalks at approximately 11:30AM Eastern Standard Time.

Amanat’s presentation will also followed with an offer for an exclusive and FREE digital collection, All-New Marvel Now! Teen Heroes! Be sure to tune in March 1st for the official code to access this free digital collection that showcases Marvel’s all-new teen heroes. Then go to marvel.com/tedx, add the All-New Marvel Now! Teen Heroes collection to your cart and use the provided promo code to get your FREE digital copy of this collection to read in the Marvel Comics App (offer ends 3/31 11PM EST).

“Myths, Misfits & Masks” will address how societal constructs and stereotypes can impact the self-perception and self-worth of individuals—in particular teens & adolescents who may be the most impressionable. How can we manage others expectations of our identities and establish our authentic self? This idea will be evaluated through the lens of positive and accessible imagery and storytelling—and comic book stories in particular through their aspirational impact.  Enter the X-Men, Spider-Man and now Ms. Marvel – comic book characters in Marvel’s long history of sharing stories about the powers that come with being “different”.

The theme of the fifth annual TEDxTeen conference, “The Crazy Ones”, aims to focus on the ones who follow their hearts, the ones who dare to believe dreams are real, the ones who make the impossible, possible. They go where no one has gone before – not without fear, but despite fear!

TEDxTeen will be live-streamed AROUND THE WORLD, March 1st. The event is live from 10:30am-5:45pm (EST) on TEDxTeen.com and through their official livestream partners MTV Act and MTV Voices. Additionally, TEDxTeen is also an online interactive experience at Shindig.com/event/tedxteen where online attendees will be able to meet, mingle, and otherwise share the day in video chat with other attendees. An online Pre-Event Meet Up starts at 9:00am (EST).
