Opus Inks an Exclusive Distribution Deal, Joins Diamond’s Deluxe Publishers Tier

Diamond Comic Distributors and Diamond Book Distributors have announced an expanded partnership with Opus Comics. Diamond Book Distributors has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Opus Comics to exclusively distribute their books to North American and international book markets. Distribution to the comic book specialty market will continue to be handled exclusively by Diamond Comic Distributors, as Opus moves into Diamond’s Deluxe Tier of publishers.

Opus Comics was founded in 2021 by writer and creative director Llexi Leon, launching with over a dozen comic book titles based on some of the world’s best-known music-related IP including Bill and Ted: Roll the Dice, Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer and Evanescence: Echoes from the Void. An imprint of the multi-faceted production company Incendium, Opus Comics’ goal is to feature the highest level of artwork and top-notch storytelling while putting fresh spins on iconic properties and building out long-term, highly collaborative partnerships when licensing characters, stories, and artwork.

Driven by the company motto of “Myths, Monsters, and Metal,” the brand embraces ’80s and ’90s counterculture with a contemporary twist, exploring genre fiction, fantasy, horror, and sci-fi. Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer launches an entire multiverse of Frazetta’s most famous creations, featuring an all-new tale of Kur, the cursed barbarian, as he takes up the protection of a woman and child against his better judgment. Frank Frazetta’s Dawn Attack reaches beyond the fantasy worlds of Death Dealer into a new realm of science fiction, bringing Frazetta’s epic painting of the same name to life as Princess Dawn leads her displaced people on a mission to reclaim their kingdom. From Grammy Award-winning rock band Evanescence, Echoes from the Void features adaptations of the band’s musical catalog in short stories created by an all-star cast of graphic artists, animators, illustrators, fine artists, screenwriters, and novelists. Opus will be joining AfterShock Comics, Titan Comics, ABLAZE Publishing, and Frank Miller Presents (FMP) in Diamond Comic Distributors’ Deluxe Tier of publishers. The Deluxe Tier features preferred coverage in the PREVIEWS catalog and expanded support on the PREVIEWSworld website. Opus will move into the Deluxe Tier beginning with the May 2023 PREVIEWS catalog.

Black Panel Press Signs an Exclusive Deal with Diamond

Diamond Book Distributors has announced that it has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Black Panel Press to exclusively distribute their products to North American and international book markets. Distribution to the comic book specialty market is handled exclusively by Diamond Comic Distributors.

Black Panel Press is an indie comic book and graphic novel publisher founded by Andrew Benteau in 2017 with the goal of bringing exceptional foreign language graphic novels to North American readers.  In 2016, Benteau met José Jover, editor of French publication Tartamudo Editions. The two quickly established a partnership to import European graphic novel titles to the United States and Canada. Black Panel Press is committed to a “stories first” approach, allowing creators to craft the narratives they want to tell and retain complete control of their stories.

Black Panel Press boasts an ever-growing library of works, with comic books and graphic novels ranging from anthologies and nonfiction, to science fiction, slice of life, action/adventure, and everything in between. A slice of life drama, Queer in Asia is portrait of a Chinese youth in search of love and meaning. Inhuman Trials is a science fiction graphic novel that explores the fallout of a third world war, focusing on the human experience through the eyes of a Swedish scientist desperate to reconstruct the human genome. The Man in the Painter’s Room is a nonfiction graphic novel about the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh following his release from the Saint-Paul asylum in 1890, as told through the eyes of Adeline Ravoux, an innkeeper’s daughter with whom Vincent shared a special bond. Rich Johnson joins Diamond Book Distributors

Diamond Book Distributors (DBD), a division of Diamond Comic Distributors, has announced that Rich Johnson has joined DBD as Vice President, Sales and Business Development.

Johnson has  decades of experience in the publishing industry and has been involved in multiple aspects of bookselling ranging from store manager, to buyer, to publisher. Most recently, Johnson served as President and Founder of Brick Road Media, a publishing consultancy firm. Previously, Johnson served as Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Business Development for Lion Forge Comics, Co-Founder and Co-Publishing Director for Yen Press / Hachette Book Group and Vice President of Book Trade Sales for DC Comics. He has  taught at Drexel University and  is currently an Adjunct Professor at Pace University in their Masters Publishing Program.

In his role with Diamond Book Distributors, Johnson will partner with sales and marketing to manage business development efforts including evaluating new business opportunities and working to expand the distribution network for DBD publishers.

Tony Lutkus Named President, Diamond Book Distributors

Diamond Book Distributors (DBD), a division of Diamond Comic Distributors, the largest distributor of English-language comic books, graphic novels, and related pop-culture merchandise worldwide, has named Tony Lutkus as President. Lutkus will start in his new role August 16.

Lutkus has more than 15 years of senior management and leadership experience in the publishing industry including a decade of strategic development and plan execution in partnership with publishers to optimize product development, pricing, merchandising, digital advertising, social media, publicity and retail promotions. Most recently, Lutkus served as Senior Director, Sales & Marketing for Penguin Random House. Prior to that, Lutkus served as International Sales & Marketing Director for Hachette Book Group.

As President, Lutkus will provide expanded leadership to drive growth for DBD and its publishing partners.

Josh Hayes continues in his role as Executive Vice President and will report to Lutkus.

Diamond Comic Distributors has announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Clover Press to exclusively distribute their products to comic book specialty store markets worldwide. Diamond was also awarded the rights to exclusively distribute Clover Press’ new releases to the North American book market under the banner of its sister company, Diamond Book Distributors.

Located in San Diego, California, Clover Press is a boutique publishing company focused on graphic novels and prose books. Headed by IDW founders Ted Adams and Robbie Robbins, the company is looking forward to working with established creators on original graphic novels and a series of prose books featuring new covers and illustrations by some of the best artists working in the comics field.

Creators who have projects in the works with Clover Press include Kevin Eastman, Jonathan Maberry, Craig & Clizia Yoe, Charles Holland, Sara Richard, Steve Niles, Damien Worm, Arvind Ethan David, Eric Shanower, Shaun Harris, Erik Burnham, John K. Clover’s first book, The Royal Book of Oz, will ship in April 2020. An all-new edition of the classic novel by Ruth Plumly Thompson features a cover, new Oz maps, and six new illustrations by Eisner Award nominated artist, Sara Richard. Oz historian Eric Shanower, an Eisner Award winning writer and artist, is providing an afterword that provides biographical information on Thompson and an overview of how she came to write the book.

AHOY Announces an Exclusive Deal with Diamond and Upcoming Release Dates

Diamond Book Distributors has signed a distribution agreement with AHOY Comics. Diamond Book Distributors will exclusively distribute AHOY Comics trade paperbacks to the traditional book market, while Diamond Comic Distributors will distribute the books to the comic book specialty market.

The independent, Syracuse-based publisher was founded by Hart Seely, an award-winning journalist whose work has been featured in The New York Times and on National Public Radio. In recent weeks, AHOY Comics acquired the publishing rights to the controversial comic book series, Second Coming, the satirical comic book series in which Jesus Christ resumes His Holy Mission. Timed to today’s announcement, AHOY Comics officially announced the release dates for its first three trade paperback collections. The Wrong Earth, the acclaimed superhero satire that introduced fan favorites Dragonfly and Dragonflyman, will be available in book form in comic stores across the country on May 1, ahead of the release of the company’s Free Comic Book Day title entitled Dragonfly and Dragonflyman #1.

Bedside Press boasts two Eisner Award nominations since its inception in 2014. A Bunch of Jews and Other Stuff, nominated for Best Anthology in 2018, is Trina Robbins’ graphic novel adaptation of her father’s 1938 short story collection that depicts life in a small Jewish village in Belarus along with his later immigration to Brooklyn at the age of sixteen. Enough Space for Everyone Else, which focuses on telling gripping stories about the possibilities of life in space without the common themes of war and colonialism, received a Best Short Story nomination for one of its self-contained tales, “The Transplant,” by Megan Gedris. Diamond Book Distributors Adds Seven Seas’ Ghost Imprint

Diamond Book Distributors has been named the exclusive worldwide distributor for Seven Seas Entertainment’s all-new imprint Ghost Ship.

The Ghost Ship imprint will specialize in mature manga titles in both print and digital manga. With the launch of the imprint, two new licenses were added to the slate of title publications from the publisher: Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs by Tadahiro Miura and World’s End Harem by LINK and Kotaro Shono.
