IDW Honored with 12 Eisner Nominations

Official Press Release

IDW Honored with 12 Eisner Nominations

Nominations include Best Continuing Series and Best Archival Collection

LOCKE & KEY: KEYS TO THE KINGDOM coverSan Diego, CA (April 7, 2011)—With today’s announcement of the 2011 nominations for the Will Eisner Comic Industry awards, IDW Publishing and its team of stellar creators and editors have been honored with twelve separate nominations, the most in company history. Showcasing the company’s wide range of projects, six separate books and series received nominations.

“These many nominations covering the breadth of IDW’s diverse product line are so gratifying to see,” said Ted Adams, IDW co-founder and chief executive officer. “We strive hard every month to produce books that run the gamut of comic book fans’ interest, and it’s nice to see a spotlight shined on so many of these books.”

Recently the basis for a FOX Television pilot, IDW’s acclaimed series LOCKE & KEY tops the company’s nominations with four separate nods. Created by best-selling prose author Joe Hill, with art by Gabriel Rodriguez, LOCKE & KEY is up for Best Continuing Series, Best Single Issue (Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom #1), Best Writer (Joe Hill) and Best Penciller/Inker (Gabriel Rodriguez). Hill is also a member of the creative team for THE CAPE, nominated for Best Single Issue, along with Jason Ciaramella and Zack Howard.THE CAPE cover

“I’m really gratified by all the nominations and especially the nods for LOCKE & KEY and THE CAPE,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s chief creative officer and the editor of both nominated comics. “Anything that brings more focus to these two great series makes me happy. We really believe in LOCKE & KEY, which is why it’s the focus of our Free Comic Day issue this year, and we’re very high on its chances to get picked up as a TV series. And THE CAPE has gone from a little sold-out one-shot to an all-new series this June, so I love the idea of these nominations bringing more attention to the great work the creators are doing on both of these comics.”

THE OUTFIT coverTHE OUTFIT, the second installment of Darywn Cooke’s graphic novel adaptation series, Richard Stark’s Parker, is nominated for Best Writer/Artist (Darywn Cooke) and Best Lettering (Darywn Cooke). The first book in the series, THE HUNTER, won the Eisner for Best Adaptation from Another Work in 2010.

“I’m very happy that Darwyn has once again been recognized by the Eisner voting committee,” said editor Scott Dunbier. “He’s a terrific writer and artist and never gives less than his all—congrats, my friend!”

After launching to huge praise at San Diego Comic Con in 2010, IDW’s inaugural Artist’s Edition book, DAVE STEVENS’ THE ROCKETEER, is recognized with two Eisner nominations, for Best Archival Collection/Project – Strips and Best Publication Design. Cooke and IDW Present Parker: The Martini Edition

Official Press Release

Cooke and IDW Present Parker: The Martini Edition

Hardcover compilation of The Hunter and The Outfit
Plus art gallery and all-new story
Arriving July 2011

San Diego, CA (April 1, 2011) – At WonderCon today, IDW Publishing announced that Darwyn Cooke‘s first two adapted Parker books, THE HUNTER and THE OUTFIT, will be collected in a tremendous, oversized hardcover edition, with an additional 65 pages of Cooke content. Packaged in a beautiful slipcase, The Martini Edition debuts in July and features a brand new Parker short story by Darwyn Cooke.

“The first two Parker graphic novels have been met with such overwhelming praise,” said series editor Scott Dunbier. “It’s almost been an embarrassment of riches. With this Martini Edition we’re really trying to up the bar and give the fans something extra special—I think we’ll succeed!”

Adapted from Richard Stark‘s classic crime noir novel, Darwyn Cooke‘s PARKER: THE HUNTER graphic novel debuted in July 2008 to instantaneous popular and critical acclaim. It made the New York Times best-seller list and won coveted Eisner and Harvey awards. The second graphic novel, THE OUTFIT, was released last year and was met with similar response, and is currently under consideration for nominations in this year’s awards season. Parker: The Martini Edition will be a very special collection in that it will also feature an expansive section of sketches and preliminaries by the artist, with commentary accompanying. Also included is a brand-new 8-page Parker story by Darwyn Cooke, unique to this volume.

The Hunter and The Outfit tell the story of Parker, Richard Stark‘s classic anti-hero, as he returns to New York to settle the score with his wife and partner in crime after they betray him in a heist gone terribly wrong. After evening the field and reclaiming his prize, the Outfit decide to do some score settling of their own… and learn much too late that when you push a man like Parker, it had better be all the way to the grave.

PARKER: THE MARTINI EDITION ($75.00, partial color, 344 pages, 9”x13”) will be available comic and book stores in July 2011. ISB 978-1-60010-980-5.

Lorna, Relic Wrangler faces off against the forces of evil in March release from Image Comics

Berkeley, CA – 20 December 2010 – Fun fact: Washington D.C.’s occult architecture was configured to roll out the red carpet for an extra-dimensional Dark Lord. And only one woman can rescue mankind from certain doom!

In March, Image Comics will tell the tale of mankind’s savior in LORNA, RELIC WRANGLER, a one-shot adventure written by Micah S. Harris (HEAVEN’S WAR) and illustrated by Loston Wallace (Elvira Mistress of the Dark, Batman Animated Series), Michael Youngblood, and Olli Hihnala. Eisner-award winning artist Darwyn Cooke (DC: The New Frontier, Richard Stark’s Parker) provides the gorgeous cover, while Dean Yeagle supplies a pin-up worthy variant cover.

“Lorna’s passions were never those of your typical southern belle,” Harris says. “Now, from her trailer park HQ, she tracks the uncanny on a global scale.”

“Lorna is Mary Ann and Ginger combined with a mint julep twist of Laura Croft,” Wallace adds. “Sexy, funny, and devilishly smart, Lorna fearlessly faces down supernatural dangers wearing cut-off jeans shorts. What’s not to like?!”

To defeat a nefarious evil entity, Lorna, Relic Wrangler, must pilfer a mysterious artifact from a Memorial in the heart of our nation’s capitol. What she doesn’t know is that she’s offering herself up as a sacrificial party favor in the process! Lorna also has to face down her high school nemesis — now a cat-suited villainess — in a girl fight for the ages!

Darwyn Cooke’s Second Parker Novel Coming in October From IDW

Official Press Release

Darwyn Cooke’s Second Parker Novel
Coming in October From IDW

The Outfit continues Cooke’s Eisner Award winning series

San Diego, CA (August 16, 2010) – IDW Publishing and award-winning creator Darwyn Cooke are pleased to announce that The Outfit, the second of Richard Stark’s Parker novels that Cooke is adapting, will be available nationwide in October. Cooke’s initial Parker release, The Hunter, has been a critical and popular success, appearing on over 50 “best of the year” lists as well as The New York Times best-seller list, and recently won a prestigious Eisner Award at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con for “Best Adaptation From Another Work.”

The Outfit finds Parker riding high after evening the score with those who betrayed him in The Hunter. Disguised with a brand new face, life is good until a squealer turns Parker in to the Outfit for the price they put on his head… and suddenly this coast-to-coast crime syndicate discovers that all their bravado doesn’t measure up against one hard man.

“With The Outfit, Darwyn reaffirms that he is one of the preeminent storytellers working in comics today,” said IDW Special Projects Editor Scott Dunbier. “To me, editing a book like this is the literary equivalent of catching Sandy Koufax for the 1963 Dodgers.”

Said Cooke, “Scott and I hope our readers enjoy this further look into Parker’s dark and seductive world. October should be a fun month and we’ve several plans in the works to mark the release of this baby.”

Darwyn Cooke, the Eisner-Award-winning writer and artist of such classics as DC: The New Frontier, Selina’s Big Score, and The Spirit, brings to life one of the true classics of crime fiction: Richard Stark’s Parker. Stark was a pseudonym used by the revered and multi-award-winning author, Donald Westlake.

The Outfit (160 pages, hardcover, 6″ x 9″) will be available in stores in October. Diamond order code AUG10 0301. ISBN 978-1-60010-762-7.
