After flipping the switch on Megavolt in last month’s debut issue, Darkwing Duck transforms here into the Terror That Claps in the Night when his adopted daughter Gosalyn is cast in a school play!

True, it’s only a small role (Gos and her friend Honker are portraying pieces of shrubbery), but it proves to be a pivotal part when the packed house comes under attack on opening night by the sappiest member of the Fearsome Five — BUSHROOT!

The green-thumbed creative team of writer DANIEL KIBBLESMITH (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and artists TED BRANDT & RO STEIN (The Mighty Captain Marvel) continue to unearth the Defender of St. Canard’s early adventures in the second issue of their evergreen new series — crowned with covers from original animated show creator TAD STONES as well as BRANDT & STEIN, MARK BAGLEY, NICOLETTA BALDARI, and CIRO CANGIALOSI!

He is the terror that flaps in the night! The fowl that felons most fear! A legend in his own time (and his own mind)! He is… DARKWING DUCK!

But how did this avian exemplar develop his redoubtable reputation? What lessons did he learn in his early days of crime-busting and foe-foiling? His legion of fans (or, at least, his adopted daughter, Gosalyn) want to know — and DW is more than happy to tell her the whole (possibly embellished) story in this unauthorized (and unorganized) autobiography!

Renowned writer DANIEL KIBBLESMITH (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Loki, Black Panther vs. Deadpool) and the double-headed art team of TED BRANDT & RO STEIN (The Mighty Captain Marvel, Tales of the Titans: Beast Boy) return to the rooftops of St. Canard with an all-new series that revisits (and likely revises) Darkwing Duck’s formative years — with a debut issue cover from artist TAD STONES, creator of the original Darkwing Duck animated series, as well as instantly iconic imagery from BRANDT & STEIN, MARK BAGLEY, NICOLETTA BALDARI, and CIRO CANGIALOSI!

Darkwing Duck Flaps into a Brand-New Ongoing Series by Daniel Kibblesmith and with Original Creator Tad Stones!

The Duck Knight returns this February, as Disney’s beloved Darkwing Duck spreads his wings and dons his crime-fighting garb in a new ongoing comic book series! Fan-favorite writer and comedy virtuoso Daniel Kibblesmith helms the team, joined by artistic duo Ted Brandt and Ro Stein, as well as contributions from beloved original character creator Tad Stones!

The fowl that felons most fear is back in action each and every month, upping the ante for Dynamite Entertainment’s new era of comic book tales following the escapades of Disney’s world-famous ducks. This new series takes a fun approach, courtesy of writer Kibblesmith, seeking to ask and answer all the essential questions about the beloved star. How did this avian exemplar develop his redoubtable reputation? What lessons did he learn in his earliest days of foe-foiling? His legion of fans, both within the story and reading these comics, as well as his adopted daughter, Gosalyn, want the lowdown on all these key questions. Darkwing is more than happy to revisit the highlights of his crime-busting career — though there can be no promise that these chronicles will not be embellished, organized, chronological, or verifiable in any way. But they will be a blast!

As fans return to the rooftops of St. Canard, they will learn that an unreliable narrator is better than no narrator at all. Readers are invited to revisit Darkwing Duck’s formative years, and his most famous feats. It’s up to them to determine what they can believe!

Joining the creative team of Kibblesmith, Brandt, Stein, colorist Dearbhla Kelly, and letterer Fabio Amelia, is the character’s legendary original creator from the early 1990s. Artist, animator, writer, director, and producer Tad Stones is back with his most signature work. The debut issue of the new series sports an incredible cover newly illustrated by Stones.

On the variant covers front, Tad is joined by another artistic great in Mark Bagley, as well as Nicoletta Baldari, Ciro Cangialosi, and interior art duo Brandt and Stein.

Darkwing Duck Vol. 2 The Justice Ducks

cover: Mirka Andolfo
FC | 112 pages | Adventure | $17.99/$22.99 | All Ages

Behold — The Justice Ducks! An elite team of superheroes that battle crime with ruthless precision and effectiveness!

No, just kidding — they’re actually a group of ducks (and a fish) that kinda/sorta work together sometimes… at least while Darkwing Duck has his whole “I work better alone!” thing under control, which admittedly isn’t very often. But when the squad heads off on a mission first to the far north and then deep beneath the ocean, the question of whether DD can subdue his ego long enough to be an effective member of the team becomes more and more important — and less and less likely!

Collecting issues #7 through 10 of the acclaimed series from writer AMANDA DEIBERT and artist CARLO LAURO, Darkwing Duck Vol. 2: The Justice Ducks also includes a complete cover gallery featuring captivating art from LESLEY “LEIRIX” LI, MIRKA ANDOLFO, DREW MOSS, TRISH FORSTNER, and CIRO CANGIALOSI!

Crowdfunding Corner: Darkwing Duck comes to Kickstarter

Backer Beware: Crowdfunding projects are not guaranteed to be delivered and/or delivered when promised. We always recommend to do your research before backing.

Disney’s crime-fighting fowl swoops in for the first ever Darkwing Duck Kickstarter, from Dynamite Entertainment and Disney. Fans have the chance to pledge their support and reserve their copies for three different volumes collecting Darkwing tales from multiple eras, including long-out-of-print classics and the latest blockbuster stories from Dynamite’s tenure. The Kickstarter is live now!

The Dynamite era of Disney comics kicked off in December 2022 with Gargoyles, but it was closely followed by a smash hit Darkwing Duck series by writer Amanda Deibert and artist Carlo Cid Lauro. A collection of that completed full series is represented as one of the volumes in this Kickstarter, on its own or accompanied by the other volumes for a deluxe Darkwing comics library. Across 10 bestselling issues, Deibert and Lauro reintroduced readers to a unique and cherished character in the Disney pantheon. Critics lauded the title for beautifully realizing the world of St. Canard and the characters of Drake Mallard and the whole cast, which captured the spirit of the original cartoon while feeling fresh and modern.

Another volume presented in this Kickstarter is christened the “Heroes & Villains” tome. It brings together the two exciting follow ups and spinoffs to the groundwork laid by Deibert in the flagship series. In Justice Ducks, artist Carlo Lauro returns and is joined by writer Roger Langridge, known for his critically acclaimed work on all-ages works like The Muppets, Popeye and Thor: The Mighty Avenger. The story continues on from threads of the launch series, marking it as more of a direct sequel than a tangent, as Darkwing leads a team of duck defenders comprised of Stegmutt, Gizmoduck, Neptunia, Morgana, and assists from his own adopted daughter Gosalyn. This haphazard team-up’s adventures are chronicles across five issues, all included here.

Then in Negaduck, the hero of St. Canard’s archnemesis spreads his villainous wings in his own first-ever series of eight issues. Beloved writer Jeff Parker has tackled so many top titles like Aquaman, Thunderbolts, Hulk, Batman ’66, Flash Gordon, and now brings that expertise to the Disney ducks mythos. He’s matched up with artist Ciro Cangialosi, who fans first saw illustrating many of the action figure themed covers for Darkwing Duck, including Negaduck’s from issue #6.

The third volume is packed full of goodies that no Darkwing diehard can do without! It’s a thrilling tour of the comics history of Drake Mallard. It kicks off with the hero’s first-ever comics appearance, the four-issue series from 1991 originally released by the Disney Comics line. Also included from this earlier era are stories from the Disney Afternoon magazine originally published by Marvel.

Across these three volumes, contributing writers and artists include Tad Stones, Amanda Deibert, John Blair Moore, Jeff Parker, Roger Langridge, Carlo Cid Lauro, Ciro Cangialosi, David Nakayama, Mirka Andolfo, Trish Forstner, and more.

The books are all available in multiple versions to fit every fan’s desires and budget. There are paperback and hardcover editions of all three collections, and there are hardcovers available signed by Tad Stones, Amanda Deibert, and others, as well as hardcovers with original remarqued sketches by artist Ken Haeser that are limited to just 500 copies each.

In addition to the books in the middle of the spotlight, backers can add collectible comic books from Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck series, limited edition facsimiles of the 1991 first issue with gold and purple foil, deluxe lithograph and giclée prints of artwork, and commissioned original artwork from superstars Jae Lee and Ken Haeser.
