The highly anticipated film Blue Beetle finally is getting a teaser poster. Based on the DC character, the movie is pretty key not only because it elevates a relatively unknown character but also focuses on the Jaime Reyes version played by Xolo Maridueña.
Blue Beetle is about a teenage Hispanic El Pasoan, who gains superpowers when an alien Blue Beetle scarab grafts onto him, forming a powerful exoskeleton around his body.
Leaked photos have shown a very accurate superhero costume creating even more anticipation to get a look at the film. The Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle debuted as Jaime in Infinite Crisis #3 and as Blue Beetle in Infinite Crisis #5 in 2006. The character was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner.
This November 29th, Jaime Reyes, a.k.a. DC’s Blue Beetle, will debut in a new solo comic book series from writer Josh Trujillo and artist Adrián Gutiérrez. The comic will be simultaneously available in both English and Spanish editions—fans can preorder the Spanish language edition of Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #1 with their local comic book shop. Make sure to get your pre-orders in before October 30th!
The six-issue series follows Jaime as he graduates from high school and attempts to figure out his future, responsibility to his Scarab, and what comes next for him as a Super Hero. Blue Beetle: Graduation Day will introduce new characters, like the Yellow Beetle, as well as familiar faces from across the DC Universe.
Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #1 features variant covers including Rafael Albuquerque, which is an homage to the original introduction of the character, and a papel picado insert designed by Ivan Plascencia featuring the Scarab Khaji Da, to celebrate Jaime’s solo series. The papel picado will be polybagged with a foil edition of the main cover by Gutiérrez and colorist Wil Quintana.

Cully Hamner has drawn many things for many publishers, but he’s probably best known for his creator-owned comic Red, which was adapted as a pair of hit Bruce Willis films; for co-creating Jaime Reyes (the current Blue Beetle, also about to be a feature film); and his work on The Question. His list of credits at DC is about as long as your leg — most recently as cover artist on numerous titles across the Batman and Superman lines, as well as the new Blue Beetle: Graduation Day and interiors on books like Future State: Superman of Metropolis, Superman Red & Blue, and Blue and Gold. At Marvel, he’s provided numerous covers for the Spider-Man titles, Black Panther vs. Deadpool, War of the Realms, Yondu, M.O.D.O.K., Alien, and the upcoming Joe Fixit series. Also coming up are covers for numerous BOOM! Studios titles, such as Something is Killing the Children and Grim.
Klaus Janson was born in 1952 in Coburg, Germany, and came to America in 1957. As a child growing up in Connecticut, he learned how to read and write the English language almost exclusively from Lois Lane and Superman comics. Even at that early age, delusions of competence overtook him and he would cut apart the comics and paste them onto paper to construct new stories. This eventually led to the notion that drawing the stories outright and preserving the comics might be a more efficient way of approaching this medium. A valuable and life saving apprenticeship with his mentor Dick Giordano encouraged him to continue. After many summers of portfolio reviews and rejections, Marvel Comics offered a part time office job applying grey tones to the black and white horror comic reprints that were glutting the market. Two things happened that would change that: Daredevil and teaching at The School of Visual Arts. Daredevil with Frank Miller in the mid-1980s was a rare opportunity for two artists to work unconstrained by the typical expectations or oversight of corporate thinking. An anomaly for mainstream publishing, Daredevil was a struggle between artistic instinct and intellect that, at its best, resulted in that perfect balance. The other step forward was teaching at The School of Visual Arts. Klaus believes that communication is the most powerful tool human beings possess. That ability to communicate can come in many forms but at its root is called storytelling. Klaus lives in New York, where he writes, draws, inks, and colors, and teaches comics.
Andrew Pepoy has worked for U.S., Canadian, British, and French publishers on hundreds of comics on such characters and titles as The Simpsons, Fables, Batman, The X-Men, Iron Man, Star Wars, Wallace & Gromit, Scooby Doo, Betty & Veronica, Lanfeust, Uncle Scrooge, and many more over the last 30 years. In 2000, Andrew redesigned Little Orphan Annie and drew the newspaper strip for the next year, and in 2005 he brought his knack for retro glamour with a modern twist to writing and drawing a revival of the classic Archie Comics character, Katy Keene. Since 1990, he has written and drawn many stories of his own Harvey Award-nominated creation, The Adventures of Simone & Ajax, which has been collected in book form by IDW and appears as a webstrip at www.simoneandajax.com, with a new series in production. Nominated several times, Andrew won an Eisner Award in 2009 and has also won an Inkwell Award and been nominated for the Harvey and Hugo Awards. He lives in Chicago. His recent work includes drawing a Dinosaucers mini-series for Lion Forge, inking the 50th Anniversary graphic novel adaptation of the The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine for Titan, inking various Simpsons comics for Bongo Comics, art for MAD Magazine, a run as guest artist on the Dick Tracy newspaper comic strip, inking Die Kitty Die for Astrocomics, and drawing covers for Doctor Who, Archie vs. Predator II, Red Sonja, Lady Death, and other titles.
John Timms was born and raised in Costa Rica. He studied Graphic Design at Universidad de Costa Rica and worked for a long time as an animator, jumping to comics, a medium he always loved, eight years ago. He has worked on different series, including Inhumans and Nova for Marvel, and for DC Comics, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Young Justice, Infinite Frontier, Superman, and he is the current artist for Superman: Son of Kal-El. He lives in Costa Rica with his wife and two daughters.
Lee Weeks has been drawing and occasionally writing comics for more than 30 years. Best known for his work on Batman, Superman, Daredevil, and Hulk, Weeks has illustrated nearly every major character while partnering with some of the most celebrated talents in the industry. His recent collaborations with Tom King on Batman (Annual #2, Cold Days, and Batman vs. Elmer Fudd) have produced some of the most memorable tales in the Dark Knight’s history. Born and raised in Maine, the son of a chair maker, Weeks began drawing before he can remember — sometimes on the walls and furniture. He and his wife live in Pennsylvania. They have two married daughters.

This December, in honor of what would have been Stan Lee’s 100th birthday, DC is releasing Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee, a commemorative one-shot anthology featuring new stories based on Lee’s (with film producer Michael Uslan) interpretations of core DC characters from his Just Imagine series of one-shots (2001-2002).
This 96-page Prestige format one-shot hits comic book stores and participating digital platforms on Tuesday, December 27; the anthology features 10 new stories spotlighting the Just Imagine characters from an incredible mix of celebrated comic book storytellers and new and emerging voices in comic books. In addition to a new story from Michael Uslan, this anthology includes stories written by Mark Waid, Jerry Ordway, Kenny Porter, Stephanie Williams, Michael W. Mad Cave Studios has revealed the Mad Cave Studios Legacy Collection featuring four of their flagship titles:Battlecats, Nottingham, Stargazer, and Becstar! Creators Jesse Lonergan, Cully Hamner, Marguerite Sauvage, and Shaenon Garrity, have created all new covers for these low-cost special single issues, outside of their own individual arcs, that tell a greater story about the start of everything for Mad Cave.
Taking risks to truly make a mark in the industry, Mad Cave Studios marks these four books as different milestones. Battlecats by Mark London was the inaugural comic that was a medieval fantasy comic. Stargazer, the sci-fi adventure written by talent search winner, Anthony Cleveland, gained critical acclaim.
