CHEW Comes to IDW Games

chew gameAt the Diamond Retailer Summit, IDW Games announced a deal with John Layman and Rob Guillory that will create a new line of CHEW tabletop games for fans to sink their teeth into. The smash-hit comic series is already on its way to an animated adaptation, and starting in early 2015 fans hungry for more CHEW will have yet another way to devour their favorite title.

The CHEW game line will feature a smorgasbord of play options from board to card to dice games, each title being a stand-alone experience designed to whet fans’ appetites, whether they be a gaming novice or a connoisseur. IDW Games will be tapping top game designing talent to develop each game in the series, and Layman and Guillory will stay involved on the creative side to ensure the look and feel of each game is in line with the highly stylized, quirky world they’ve created.

Look for Chew to hit stores in early 2015, and in the meantime IDW Games will dole out bite-sized teasers on www.idwgames.com.

Humble Bundle Launches Pay-What-You-Want Image Comics Bundle

Image_Comics_logo_largeI’ve been waiting for this to happen, but Humble Bundle and Image comics have teamed up for a new offering and promotion that’ll last two weeks. For those unfamiliar with Humble Bundle, customers name their price, splitting the proceeds as they choose between various possibilities, usually including Humble Bundle, the publisher participating, and a charity. This offering will benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. That means customers could give all the money to the CBLDF, to Image, or to Humble Bundle, or split it any way they choose. Usually, for those giving a higher than average amount, they also unlock other giveaways.

You can name your price for the following:

  • East of West Vol. 1 by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta
  • Lazarus Vol. 1 by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark
  • Morning Glories Vol. 1 by Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma
  • Fatale Vol. 1 by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips

For those who pay more than average, you’ll also receive:

  • Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
  • Revival Vol. 1 by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton
  • Chew Vol. 1 by John Layman and Rob Guillory

If you pay $15 or more you also get:

  • The Walking Dead Vol. 1
  • The Walking Dead Vol. 20

Not only do you get to help a great organization through this, but you get a hell of a lot of comics. Humble Bundle has raised $37 million for 20 different charities and non-profits, since it launched in 2010.

Shake a tail feather & don’t miss Chew: Warrior Chicken Poyo

John Layman and Rob Guillory team up to bring back Chew fans’ most beloved homicidal cybernetic kung-fu rooster in an all-new Chew spinoff series: Warrior Chicken Poyo.

Where Secret Agent Poyo was Chew through a James Bond lens turned up to 11, Warrior Chicken Poyo is Layman’s and Guillory’s mad take on high fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, Conan, and with a dash of The Wizard of Oz thrown in.

Layman declared in a release:

Secret Agent Poyo was the most important comic ever published by Image, in addition to being the best comic book ever published in the entire history of humanity. And Warrior Chicken Poyo is SO good, it will make Secret Agent Poyo look like rancid, smelly garbage! THAT’S how good it’s going to be! Warrior Chicken Poyo will change comics forever, as well as the life of anybody who reads it.

Guillory spoke of the pressure to outdo such greatness as Secret Agent Poyo.

After drawing Secret Agent Poyo, I flirted with the idea of retiring from comics,” admitted Guillory. “I mean, how could we ever top the magnum opus that was Secret Agent Poyo? But now, with the arrival of Warrior Chicken Poyo, I worry, have we flown too close to the sun? Can comics—nay, MANKIND—withstand the terrible beauty of such a book as Warrior Chicken Poyo?!!

Chew: Warrior Chicken Poyo #1 arrives in stores on 7/9, and will be available for $3.50. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code MAY140608.
