Pick of the Week – Lost Vegas #1

LV CoverB colourThere’s a few weeks out of the year where there’s just too many good comics to pick from. This is one of those weeks. There’s a lot coming out, and a lot of it solid, but the one I’m looking forward to the most is Lost Vegas #1 published by Image Comics. Written by Jim McCann with art by Janet Lee, the series involves a casino space station and a heist. McCann is an amazing writer and Lee’s art is unreal. They’re one of those dream team creative teams and whatever they’ve done has turned to gold. I expect no less from this.

  • Lost Vegas #1 – see above
  • Age of Ultron #1 – There’s been lots of build up to this. Marvel’s big event starts here.
  • Sex #1 –Simon Cooke has retired from his own “alternative lifestyle” and returned to the city he’d previously sworn to protect. Now he’s just another average citizen — or is he?
  • All-New X-Men #8 – Brian Michael Bendis has been knocking it out of the park with this series.
  • Helheim #1 – Cullen Bunn’s latest Oni series looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Preview – All-New X-Men #9

Marvel has released a first look at All-New X-Men #9, from the creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Stuart Immonen! Hot on the heels of the Uncanny X-Men facing Sentinels in their first issue, the All-New X-Men find themselves face-to-face with Sentinels for the very first time. Something is boiling under the surface of the Marvel Universe! Also, Mystique continues to make some big moves that will have huge circumstances for the X-Men.

Pick of the Week – New Avengers #1

Marvel‘s Marvel NOW! initiative has been hit or miss with the good books leaning towards great and the bad, being utter rubbish. This week sees two releases, of which New Avengers #1 seems to be the most intriguing. Much of the pains of the Marvel universe has been due to the machinations of a group of it’s most powerful individuals. It’s a great concept that hasn’t been taken far enough. It looks like New Avengers picks up that under used plot thread and hopefully takes it in the direction and to the point it deserves.

  • New Avengers #1see above
  • Invincible #99We’re almost to issue 100 as Invincible must deal with the result of his actions and fight one hell of a battle.
  • The Red Ten #1I read this issue back in the days as to when it was micro-distributed. It’s a new take on Agatha Christie’s classic story Ten Little Indians, but with a super hero spin.
  • All-New X-Men #5There’s been too many issues of this series released, but they’re really good, so it’s not all bad. The classic X-Men are in the present time and must face what they’ve and the world have become.
  • Hellboy in Hell #2Hellboy is fighting for his life as he must battle through the after life.
