Exclusive: Dive into Mark Russell and Russ Braun’s The Forgotten Divine with Character Blurbs

AHOY Comics has made its reputation on witty satires, acclaimed creators, and a commitment to bold and risk-taking storytelling. Now the publisher is launching its debut Kickstarter for The Forgotten Divine, a satirical science fiction drama from writer Mark Russell and artist Russ Braun. The inaugural campaign from the publisher that asks its readers to Expect More will offer exclusive campaign-only covers, unique AHOY goodies, and more tantalizing perks yet to be announced. Sign up here to be notified when the campaign goes live.

Meet Rodney Coleman, an unhoused veteran whose sleep is haunted by dreams of a faraway planet. (At least, he thinks they’re dreams.) Soon Coleman connects with others plagued by dreams of the same world and finds himself at the head of a UFO cult. The group’s shared effort to understand their visions is heartfelt at first—but over time it descends into unreality, conspiracy, paranoia, violence, and conceivably… revelation.

We have an exclusive look at the characters with blurbs from Russell and art by Braun. Check it out below and sign up now so you don’t miss out when this launches!

Rodney: A homeless veteran whose visions of an alien world start a global movement that would become known as The Forgotten Divine. An explosives expert in Afghanistan, he returns home to a country that now considers him a liability. But his visions give him a sense of purpose he never had on the battlefield.

Doc: Rodney’s mental health therapist. A better friend than therapist, Doc is divorced and lives alone in a house with no pets and only one fork. The only inhabited house in a deserted cul-de-sac, he goes from trying to talk Rodney down from his visions to being a dedicated believer in The Forgotten Divine.

Willemina: Willemina was working at a museum of the weird when she became an oddity herself. Having strange visions, she had no idea what to make of them until she saw a poster for a support group looking for people who were having dreams at once too real and too alien to just be dreams.

Toby: A ten year-old girl who has the strongest and most detailed visions of anyone in The Forgotten Divine. She comes to be seen as a prophet by those who share her affliction/calling.

Agent Reeve: An FBI agent and psychologist, she is willing to do whatever it takes to infiltrate The Forgotten Divine and prevent what she fears will be another Jonestown or Waco. TA dedication which puts her on a collision course with the very people she’s trying to save.

Crowdfunding Corner: A Steampunk Love Story – Vol. 1, Buster Keaton’s One Week, Good Grief: The End of Talking Back

Welcome to our revamped “Crowdfunding Corner” rounding up some of the latest crowdfunding news. We’re going beyond just announcement projects, we’ll be tracking to make sure these projects get delivered as well as what we think the “risk” of backing them are.

A Steampunk Love Story – Vol. 1

A Steampunk Love Story - Vol. 1

Publisher: N/A
Creative Team: Dan Bouchez
Launch Date: Launching Soon
Risk: Medium – It’s the first project listed for the profile which is always a risk.

A Steampunk Love Story is a graphic novel (4 volumes) blending romance, adventure, and steampunk aesthetics for young adult / adult. Here, steampunk is not just a retro futuristic backdrop, it’s a coherent, harsh, and poetic world serving a deeply human and universal story: love.

Deeply in love with Julia, Bernardo Rosa – a moody, talented yet accident-prone illustrator – struggles to make a living in a society driven by rapid industrial innovation. Short on money and refusing to work in the city’s new factories, he jeopardizes their relationship, with Julia reproaching him for not contributing to their household. The night she vanishes on her way to the theatre, where Bernardo planned to propose, he becomes convinced she was kidnapped by Bones, a mobster to whom he owes money for the wedding ring.

Helped by Ana, a lively and unpredictable street girl longing for the kind of love Bernardo shares with Julia, he embarks on a frantic chase through the city’s various districts before Bones can reach them first.

Buster Keaton’s One Week

Buster Keaton’s One Week

Publisher: N/A
Creative Team: Maciek Jozefowicz
Launch Date: Launching Soon
Risk: Medium – It’s the first project listed for the profile which is always a risk.

There is DC Universe. There is Marvel Universe. And there is Buster Keaton Universe.

I discovered the films of Buster Keaton about 15 years ago and fell in love with their wit, charm and inventiveness. Buster Keaton is one of the great filmmakers. At the height of his fame, during the silent era, he was second only to Charlie Chaplin.

Since then, I’ve been wanting to bring the universe that Keaton created in film to comics, but I did not have the tools to do it in the way that I wanted to do it. I now have the tools, the iPad and the Apple Pencil, and so I have began my adaptations.

“One Week” is one of Buster Keaton’s short classics. It’s been selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry. It is my fourth adaptation of a Buster Keaton film. All four adaptations — “Day Dreams”, “The Blacksmith”, “The Balloonatic” and “One Week” — are available on Amazon.

Unfortunately, while the Amazon’s ebook versions of the comic books are presentable, the physical versions, softcover and hardback, are barely so. Amazon’s print-on-demand is of low quality, even by print-on-demand standards. It’s fine for text, but not graphics. The black-and-white artwork is printed dark-gray-and-white, or faded-black-and-white. It’s as if the printers were trying to save ink. The interiors look like something that’s has been lying in the sun for years and lost its intensity. Or like pants that have gone through hundreds of washing cycles to become faded jeans. (If you like faded jeans, many do, you may like faded comics, too. I won’t judge.)

It’s frustrating to put effort into making something of quality only to have it ruined by the company that prints Amazon’s books! Buster Keaton deserves better. My artwork deserves better.

I launched this Kickstarter project to raise the funds necessary to print “Buster Keaton’s One Week” using offset printing. Offset printing offers the highest quality, but it is not on-demand, meaning that I can’t order one or ten or fifty copies at a time. There is a minimum number of copies that an offset printers are willing to print. That number varies between different printers, but the lowest that I’ve come across is 500.

At that small a count, one is not saving any money by printing offset. In most cases, print-on-demand will still be cheaper per unit. There is no difference in unit cost, but there is a difference in quality. Offset printing offers the sharpest and most intense graphics. It’s what big publishers use for their books.

This is why I am trying to raise $10,000 rather than a $1,000 or $2,000. If the campaign reaches $10,000, I will be able to offset print “One Week”. If it doesn’t, Amazon’s inferior versions is all that will be available for now.

Ideally, I would like to offset print all four books, but that would be only possible if the campaign reaches certain milestones. (I can dream, but I won’t put the carriage before the horse.)

Good Grief: The End of Talking Back

Good Grief: The End of Talking Back

Publisher: N/A
Creative Team: (w) Keith Frady (a) Phillip Ginn
Launch Date: Launching Soon – April 20
Risk: Low – A previous campaign was delivered after the projected date, but delivered

What if one day you turned to the funny pages to discover Charlie Brown sacrificing Linus in a cult ritual? What if, in the last month of their lauded series, Calvin and Hobbes were discussing the best ways to cook and eat human flesh?

From artist Phillip Ginn and writer Keith FradyGood Grief: The End of Talking Back is a book collection of newspaper strips showing the sudden change of a family-friendly comic into the macabre and surreal. Accompanied by commentary from the strip’s longtime editor to hint at the mystery behind the comic’s shift in tone, Good Grief unspools stories within stories in service of a not-so-simple question: Why do we make art?

The storm is coming. And it remembers Dorothy.
One of the greatest untold stories from Oz — The Road to Oz Chapter Three Kickstarter is here!

One moment, Scarecrow stood watch over the Emerald City — guardian, protector, keeper of Oz’s wisdom. The next?

Torn from everything he knew and hurled across worlds. Now he’s here. Hidden in plain sight among broken fence posts in a field that no longer grows. The rains are gone. The soil is dust. And the sky?

The sky has turned against them.

Welcome to 1930s Kansas. Welcome to the Dust Bowl.
Black clouds roll across the plains like dark oceans — swallowing everything in their path. But Dorothy knows something the others don’t.
These storms aren’t natural.

They move like they’re hunting. Shapes shift inside the churning black walls. The dust isn’t just choking the land —
It’s watching them.

And buried within those towering clouds? An enemy thought to be gone forever.

Scarecrow didn’t survive Oz to lose Dorothy here. Not to the dying land. Not to the gathering darkness. Not to what’s coming on the horizon.

Because that next black cloud isn’t a storm.

It’s war.

The Road to Oz Chapter Three continues the epic untold story of how saving Oz failed!  A reimagining of a classic tale through a fresh, cinematic lens. We’re building this world one chapter at a time, and your support makes all the difference.

The Road to Oz Chapter Three Kickstarter edition includes an exclusive 6 page epilogue, not to be seen in any future printed edition!!
Not in digital. Not in stores. Not anywhere else. Ever.

But the well looks normal… and Chai has broken every other rule before.

When a mysterious boy named River appears and befriends him, the two children begin to uncover a secret the village has tried to bury. A lonely man once died under tragic circumstances, and something restless now lingers beneath the still water.

As superstition, grief, and childhood curiosity collide, Chai will discover that some stories adults refuse to tell… are the ones that should never be uncovered.

Blank covers from Dynamite’s Authentix line will be in each blind bag, and a select few fortunate fans will receive covers adorned with sketches by the beloved Ken Haeser.

As a unique extra, these bags are not only including comic books as is traditionally the case. Each will include a trading card, including chromium cards exclusive to this offering. Oni Press and Magnetic Press have announced the Kickstarter campaign for Silent Jennyby internationally acclaimed comic author Mathieu Bablet. Sign up now to get notified when the Kickstarter campaign launches

Silent Jenny explores a not-too-distant future, where climate change continues to ravage the planet, and the disappearance of insects has led to the end of pollination, rendering vast areas of land infertile. A survival dynamic has emerged—mobile cities called “monads” have formed, and people strive to help each other; each group with its own customs, traditions, and ways of life.

Jenny is a rather solitary researcher trying to restore the world as it once was. She seeks to recover bee DNA to clone and re-create pollinating insects. However, she will come to realize that this is impossible—the old world no longer exists, and a new one must be built. She will have to make peace with the notion that all things come to an end, no matter how much you may fight the inevitable..

In addition to the deluxe hardcover edition of Silent Jenny, the Kickstarter campaign will feature a limited boxed edition and an exclusive 24-page 6×9 Codex Art Book, featuring a look at the world of Silent Jenny.

Stomping Grounds

Publisher: Humanoids
Creative Team: Amit Tishler, Elliot Sperl
Launch Date: Coming soon – expected to launch 4/21/2026.
Risk: Low – Humanoids is running a lot of campaigns lately but the creative team has their act together. The book is done and ready to go.

THE YEAR IS 2085

years have passed since “The Fermi-Fall” event ushered in a new age on planet Earth. Giant creatures waltz across the horizon and fuzzy, house-sized spores bounce around like tumbleweeds, terraforming nearby suburbs into colossal alien forests. The earth we knew is out, and what’s left is a completely new reality… The old world is gone. long live whatever the heck this is!

But craziness aside, artificial stability was achieved behind the walls of the heavily fortified CenturiCity. This is a last Bastion for our version of humanity. The city is an idealistic time capsule, protected by a Aesthetic façade, tons of ridiculous propaganda, and an army of giant battle-mechs to keep people… uh…safe? This walled fortress is where old school human civilization is MOSTLY shielded from the weirdness that is slowly creeping its way through growing cracks in the city walls.

For the Shin family the REAL challenge is living through the craziness that fills their day to day without losing their minds (or anything else) in the process.

With Kay drinking the city’s koolaid, Zee spitting it, out and Norman lamenting on how “Kool Aid was better back in the day”, Growing up in a fake utopian bubble in the middle of a world they no longer recognize can get a bit confusing for the Shins…

…Maybe if the family choose to embrace the winds of change, they may one day create a better future for themselves and inspire the rest of humanity ALONG THE WAY…

It’s worth a shot, right…?

Set against the backdrop of the Gilded Age, Jake must decide how best to use his powers to protect the American Dream for everyone.

And now, he’s needed again. With new and returning villains on the horizon, Liberty is also going to need some new allies in his fight to protect the American Dream for all Americans of all backgrounds.

Continuing on from the pulse pounding cliff hanger in issue 6, Issue 7 continues the battle in Union Square, and the consequences that comes soon after! Issue 8 continues our adventure as the devious Crowley pushes his machinations onto New York, using the climate of fear and suspicion to his advantage!

Can Liberty and his new allies combat a menace in the shadows who now has his hands on the levers of power?

With covers by Dody Eka, Vasco Gioachini, and current X-Men artist Netho Diaz (don’t worry, he did this before he went Marvel exclusive!), we got exciting adventures in store for you!
