Yen Press and Tapas Partner to Provide a New Web Novel Reading Experience

Yen Press and Tapas Entertainment have announced a new partnership to provide readers with a modern web novel reading experience for some of the most iconic light novel series. Starting October 2025, the first selection of series from Yen On (Yen Press’s novel imprint) will be available to read on Tapas, with users able to access the first five “episodes” for free. New episodes will roll out daily following the initial release, and readers will have the option to either pay to unlock the new content immediately or wait for free access.

The first batch of series coming to the Tapas platform are The Eminence in ShadowOverlordRe:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-The Summer Hikaru Died, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Following the initial release, additional Yen On series will be added to the site on a monthly basis.

Yen Press and Tapas have partnered in the past thanks to the bestselling and ongoing series The Beginning After the End by TurtleMe. The fantasy-action web novel-turned-comic about a reincarnated king who is born with the memories of his past life garnered massive popularity on Tapas, with Yen Press licensing the comic for print publication.

Yen Press Announces the Digital Publication of The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya Simultaneous to the Japanese Release

The official Haruhi Suzumiya account has confirmed the worldwide release date of the next installment of the classic light novel series to be November 29, 2024. Yen Press announced that a digital release will publish simultaneously. This new installment, which was initially teased in September 2020 before a four-year hiatus, is titled The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya. Yen Press will release a print edition at a later date.

The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya is written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, and it will be translated by Andrew Cunningham.

This new volume will include two short stories previously published in Kadokawa’s The Sneaker magazine and a new sequel to both stories. It will follow the Fantasy and Galaxy arcs, which originally appeared across eleven volumes released from 2003 to 2011 under KADOKAWA Co., Ltd. (Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko). 

Adaptations of Haruhi Suzumiya include an anime that was initially released by Bandai Entertainment in 2006 and several manga series released in English by Yen Press, the first of which was published in 2009. More recently, Kadokawa published The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya in November 2020, alongside the digital publication in English by Yen Press. Haruhi Suzumiya has stood out as one of the most iconic properties in the light novel, manga, and anime space for more than a decade.

Yen Audio adds Two Titles to its Audiobook Roster

Yen Audio will be releasing two new audiobook adaptations of Yen On novels: The Samurai and the Prisoner and Ishura.

Yen Press to Publish Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume

Yen Press, LLC has announced the acquisition of Suzume, the most recent novel from the renowned creator, Makoto Shinkai. The 2022 anime film of the same name has since exceeded 12 billion yen (about US$90.7 million) in box office revenue. The film dominated the Japanese box office for several weeks and is highly regarded as one of the top films of 2022. Suzume is Makoto Shinkai’s thirteenth directorial work, following Weathering with You’s release in 2019. Crunchyroll has teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Wild Bunch International, and Eurozoom to release the film globally in theaters April 2023.

Suzume Iwato lives with her aunt in a quiet port town in Kyushu, Japan. One day, on her way to school, she runs into a young man looking for a door and follows him to a ruin in the mountains.
