C2E2: Will Friedle joins the voice cast for the Radiant Black audiobook

Radiant Black is going from page to audio and will be the first Image Comics title to be adapted for an audiobook. Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will feature a full voice cast headlined by Rider Strong and Will Friedle playing leads Nathan Burnett and Marshall Ward, respectively. The audiobook is written, directed, and narrated by Radiant Black co-creator and Massive-Verse architect, Kyle Higgins.

Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will be the first in a planned series of audiobook adaptations from Black Market Narrative and Image Comics, adding another level of immersion to the critically and commercially acclaimed Massive-Verse. It is the first ever audiobook adaptation of an Image Comics title and is slated to release later this year.

On Saturday, during c2e2 in Chicago, the Massive-verse team took to the stage during their Massive-verse panel to announce the upcoming venture to a packed audience.

This video teaser comes to fans in the midst of a huge multi-timeline publishing event called “The Catalyst War,” which has left the fate of the Radiant Black mantle up to readers to decide—thanks to a shocking surprise vote at the end of last year’s issue #24.

Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will adapt the first volume of the Eisner award-nominated series created by Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa, with subsequent audio volumes planned and more star-studded voice casting yet to be revealed in the coming months.

Radiant Black gets animated with a new short featuring Will Friedle!

The MASSIVE-VERSE now includes its own original animated short, courtesy of Tiger Animation and Black Market Narrative. Last week, discerning fans were treated to an exclusive animation of their beloved Radiant Black characters created by Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa.

Tucked within the pages of the recent Radiant Black #15 release was a QR code that sent readers to an exciting, animated Radiant Black video featuring the voice of Will Friedle.

Higgins and Costa’s breakout hit Radiant Black took superhero storytelling to new heights when it launched—but Radiant Black isn’t the only character inhabiting the MASSIVE-VERSE. There’s a whole universe for readers to explore! Characters like Rogue Sun, Inferno Girl Red, The Dead Lucky’s Bibiana—and more yet to be revealed—all occupy the MASSIVE-VERSE. Each of them has a different story to tell, different adversaries to face… and they each occupy a very different corner of this shared universe.

Radiant Black #15 is on sale now at comic book shops and available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of what the MASSIVE-VERSE has in store with Ryan Parrott and Abel’s Rogue Sun, Cherish Chen, David Lafuente, and Miquel Muerto’s Radiant Red, and Melissa Flores & French Carlomagno’s upcoming The Dead Lucky on sale Wednesday, August 3.

Rhode Island Comic Con 2015: Interview with Will Friedle

wf2

What’s better than meeting one Batman? How about two? At Rhode Island Comic Con I did just that when I met the voice of Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond himself: Will Friedle. Will was kind enough to take the time and answer a few brief questions on what the Batman mythos means to him.

Graphic Policy: Hi Will, thank you for your time and I just wanted to get your thoughts on a few quick questions.

Will Friedle: Hey no problem, absolutely.

Graphic Policy: So what does the Batman legacy mean to you?

Will Friedle: The Batman legacy means a ton to me, first and foremost because it was the first animated show I ever did. So it means a lot to me just from the voice over realm, but also Batman’s always been my favorite superhero because I love how he doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s just a man and his will. That’s what I love.

Graphic Policy: Same here. Were you and Kevin (Conroy) ever in the booth together when recording?

Will Friedle: Kevin and I recorded almost every single, if not every single episode together and the movie together. Yes, always together.

Graphic Policy: You told me your favorite episode earlier, but do you have a favorite voice over performance, Batman Beyond or otherwise?

Will Friedle: No, you know I think Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is definitely up there as my favorite performance I’ve ever done.

Graphic Policy: It was definitely a most memorable one for me to be sure. Stellar job by everyone.

Will Friedle: Couldn’t agree more.

Graphic Policy: So last question. How did you make the transition from Boy Meets World to voice over acting?

Will Friedle: Well you know, I got very lucky. Bruce Timm who created Batman Beyond, his wife was a big Boy Meets World fan. So she said oh you’re doing this new young Batman, so you should call Will in. They did and the rest is history.

Graphic Policy: Awesome stuff, thank you for your time.

Will Friedle: Well thank you.

*I just wanted to take the time to point out that the reason the interview is so brief, Will is a super cool guy and he had insane lines all weekend long. He took the time to make each and every single person’s experience with him as memorable as possible. Very nice person.
