Malta Comic Con 2022 Dates announced

After a 2 year absence, Malta Comic Con is back. The family-oriented, action-packed event will take place over the weekend of the 29th-30th October 2022 to celebrate Pop-Culture on the island. The convention has unveiled this year’s poster which was designed by the talented Mario Torrisi, a Marvel Italy artist, especially for this event.

Wicked Comics, the organizers, are working with the Arts Council Malta once again. During the weekend, to be held at the Malta Conventions and Fairs Center (MFCC) at Ta’ Qali; visitors can expect various workshops, gaming events, talks and discussions, retailers, cosplay competitions and more. The highlight will be the Artist Zone which will showcase both local and foreign talent. 

In the coming weeks, Wicked Comics will be announcing, more details, the lineup of guests and keep a lookout for our featured events.

Malta Comic Con Announces Its First Wave of Guests

Wicked Comics has announced guests David Hine, Ellen Stubbings, Ian Richardson, Glenn Fabry and Ivo De Palma as well as exhibitors Dean Fenech, Christine Mizzi, Nicholas Vella, Magri Demajo, Mae McKinnon and Lisa Hirth will be amongst the highlights of Malta Comic Convention (MCC) 2017. The 9th edition of the Malta Comic Con (MCC) will be held on Saturday 2rd December (10am-6pm) and Sunday 3rd December (11am-7pm) 2017 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

David Hine

Writer and Illustrator David Hine has been working in comics since the early 1980s. He is credited for his work with major publishers on household titles such as Daredevil, Spider-Man, The Spirit, Spawn and The Darkness as well as for co-creating titles such as The Bullet Proof Coffin, Storm Dogs and more recently Second Sight, Aftershock and Cowboys and Insects.

Ellen Stubbings

Ellen is a children’s book illustrator and comic creator who specialises in drawing and creating cute art products. Her comics include a Weird Cat Chronicles and May Contain Cats, a diary comic about her, her fiancé and their cat. She also sells a range of cute stickers, stationery, ceramics, greeting cards and pin badges.

Ian Richardson

Ian is a comic book penciller, inker and cover artist best known for his work across several publishers, working on titles from 2000AD, Image Comics, Marvel UK/Panini, Darkhorse Comics & Zenescope Entertainment among others. Popular characters Ian has worked on include Sinister Dexter, Judge Dredd, Captain America and Halo. His most recent work include cover art for a Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Wonderland and penciling work on the upcoming The Unthinnkables.

Glenn Fabry

Illustrator Glenn Fabry has been working in comics since the mid 80s and is renowned for his painted covers on hits such as Hellblazer and The Preacher. He is also known for his interior artwork on popular titles such as Slaine, The Authority and Thor amongst others.

Ivo De Palma

Italian Ivo De Palma is set to be the first voice actor and dubber to appear at the Malta Comic Con. He gave a voice to various much loved animation characters such as Pegasus (Seiya) in The Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya), Mirko in Kiss me Licia, Rukawa in Slam Dunk, Maito Gai in Naruto and Toki in the new Fist of the North Star movies. His voice is also present in numerous videogames which include Assassin’s Creed, World of Warcraft, Mercenaries, Kill Zone and Resident Evil. He was also the Italian voice of Frank Cooper in the soap-opera Sentieri (Guiding light), and lately Kevin in the successful sit-com How I met your mother.

Dean Fenech

Having exhibited in all editions of the Malta Comic Con, Dean Fenech needs no introduction. He has developed a reputation for being one of the most productive creators in Malta. Besides co-authoring a Social Studies text book used in secondary schools, and providing illustration for a number of published books, he is perhaps best known for his comics Apocalypse Rocked and Times are –a-Changing, the third issue of which will be launched during the convention.

Christine Mizzi

Self taught illustrator Christine Mizzi has first exhibited at the Malta Comic Con in 2015 and has been doing so ever since. She describes her work as “chic sketches – that make others smile”. Her work is as varied as it is striking and includes realistic pencil portraits, neo-impressionistic landscapes, and one-page comic strips depicting satirical content inclined at criticizing social protocol.

Nicholas Vella Magri Demajo

Also known as The Sith Crafter, Nicholas Vella Magri Demajo is set on making his debut appearance at the Malta Comic Con where he will exhibit his work which consists of creating helmets and masks.

Mae McKinnon

Author Mae McKinnon is another creator set to make her debut appearance in the forthcoming Malta Comic Con. Her work includes Academia Draconia and The Damsel and the Dragon. Rumours that she can turn into a dragon has so far been unconfirmed.

Lisa Hirth

Aspiring artist Lisa Hirth will also be exhibiting for the first time during the Malta Comic Con 2017. A self confessed geek, Lisa is currently studying art and in addition to creating digital illustrations, she loves painting in oil, watercolours and gouache.

The Malta Comic Convention Returns December 2nd and 3rd 2017

Wicked Comics has announced that the 9th edition of the Malta Comic Con (MCC) will be held on Saturday 2rd December (10am-6pm) and Sunday 3rd December (11am-7pm) 2017 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

The Malta Comic Con 2017 dates were officially announced during the London Super Comic Con 2017 where for the third successive year Wicked Comics held a stand promoting both the show and the Maltese comic scene. The stand was hosted by Wicked Comics’ Christopher Muscat and featured Maltese professional creator Daniela “Iella” Attard as well as British creator and permanent Malta Comic Con guest Sean Azzopardi. The Malta Comic Con and the comics scene it continuously promotes is highly regarded by the British comics community thanks to the positive reviews circulated by previous Malta Comic Con guests.

Wicked Comics has also officially announced that table bookings for retailers/exhibitors, local artists and ancillary creators/organisations (all creators/organisations which do not exhibit/sell comics, illustrations and books including gaming and hobbyist clubs) are now open. All the relevant details such as prices and terms of conditions can be found on the application form available from the Malta Comic Con website. Interested parties are kindly requested to download the respective application form from, fill it in and send it to Wicked Comics.

Wicked Comics also invites parties interested in hosting talks, workshops, discussion panels and exhibitions during the Malta Comic Con 2017 should contact them. Except for exhibitions (which will be on display for the duration of the show) all other events should not exceed 50 minutes. Proposals submitted to Wicked Comics must clearly include the following information:

  • Type of Event – Talk, Workshop, Discussion Panel, Exhibition, Other (needs to be specified)
  • Preferred Date and Time to host the event (Allocation of Date and Time subject to availability).
  • Official Title of the Event
  • Official Description of the Event
  • Details of Speakers/Moderations/Hosts (including biography and photos)
  • Promotional Images: (including any E-Flyers, Logos and photos of past events).

Wicked Comics are also offering a number of travelling and accommodation packages for foreign creators and fans who wish to join the Malta Comic Convention. Details can be found on the Malta Comic Con website for creators and fans.

The official Malta Comic Con Cosplay competition and the Fat Spidey Roaming Cosplay Awards will be returning. Following feedback gained from cosplayers, Wicked Comics are currently working on various cosplay initiatives to ensure that this popular component of the Malta Comic Con can be represented better than it has ever been before. In addition to the various skits performed by our fabulous cosplayers, Marianne Galea and her Fantasy Showgirls will also be performing themed dance routines. Professional photographers will be available on both days for everyone in attendance who wishes to have some quality pictures taken.

This year the video game area will be the biggest it has ever been and will be buzzing with activity ranging from retro to current gaming and the fan favourite competitions will also be returning to determine the best gamers in Malta. On this front Wicked Comics are collaborating with the England based gaming community of MonHun Offline and local communities Nintendo Gamers Malta and Sandbox Dudes.

This year will also see an increase in tabletop gaming. Along with a number of gaming clubs and exciting game developers, the popular war gaming organisation W.A.R.S will also be present running a variety of introductory table-top and role playing games. So both hardcore gamers and beginners can join the fun.

Fans can also look forward to much more exciting and interactive activities such as quizzes, sketch challenges, workshops, informative and entertaining talks, Q&As and discussion panels featuring a number of professional guests and moderated by leading pop culture journalists! Some of our guests’ majestic artwork will also be exhibited during the show and to round things off nicely one of the Islands most popular comics retailer Pandora’s Box Collectibles will be joining a number of other retailers in offering an assortment of comic related memorabilia. In other words there will be something fun for everyone!

Amigo Comics LogoWicked Comics has announced that awesome writer El Torres and Amigo Comics, acclaimed independent creator Jenika Ioffreda, and leading journalist and pop culture queen Stephanie Cooke will be joining Yishan Li, Rufus Dayglo, Andrew Wildman, Guillermo Ortego, Steve Scott, Mickey Lam, Mike Collins, Cliodhna, Dave Taylor, Christian Ward, John-Paul Kamath, Michael Dialynas, Lew Stringer, Daniela “Iella” Attard, Mario Alberti, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Gordon Rennie, Emma Beeb, Jason Howard, Richard Starkings, Tim Perkins and Sean Azzopardi as guests for the Malta Comic Con (MCC) 2014 which will be held on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November at St. James Cavalier (all floors), Valletta, between 10am – 6pm on Saturday and 11am – 7pm on Sunday.
