In no surprise, Captain America: Brave New World was at the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $88.5 million domestically. Overall, domestically, it has grossed around $100 million over the holiday weekend. It also grossed $92.4 million internationally for a debut of $192.4 million worldwide.

The film’s opening is an interesting one compared to Marvel Captain America films of the past. 2011’s Captain America opened with $65.1 million which is about $91.9 million in today’s dollars. It went on to gross $370.6 million worldwide. Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuted with $95 million in 2014, about $127.5 million today, and eventually grossed $714.4 million worldwide. Captain America: Civil War opened with a massive $179.1 million in 2016, $237.1 million in today’s dollars. It grossed over $1.155 billion worldwide. Brave New World might not seem like a great opening, but beyond inflation calculations, it opened similar to the first two Captain America films.

In second place, Paddington in Peru debuted with $13 million during the weekend and $16 million domestically over the holiday weekend. Internationally, the film has grossed a massive $115.8 million for a worldwide total of $131.8 million.

Heart Eyes slipped to third place with $10 million, an improvement from the last weekend. It has grossed $22.6 million domestically with no international gross.

Dog Man slipped to fourth place from last week’s first with $9.7 million. It has grossed $69.6 million domestically and internationally it add $5.7 million over the week to bring that to $17.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $87.2 million.

Ne Zha 2 debuted in fifth with $7.2 million over the weekend and $8.3 million total domestically and no international gross reported.

Heart Eyes debuted in second place with $8.5 million domestically.

Love Hurts debuted in third place with $5.8 million domestically and $1.1 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $6.9 million.

Mufasa: The Lion King slipped one spot to come in fourth with an estimated $3.9 million to bring its domestic gross to $235.2 million. Internationally, the film grossed $12.4 million over the week to lift that to $435.9 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $671.1 million.

Companion dropped to fifth place after debuting in second and grossed a little over $3 million to bring its domestic total to $15.5 million. Over the week, it grossed $5.7 million internationally to bring that total to $11.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $26.7 million.

Two new films topped the weekend box office in an otherwise middling weekend. Dog Man grossed an estimated $36 million domestically in its debut weekend as well as $4.6 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $40.6 million. It’s been an odd year for family films and I’d have expected a bit more considering how popular the graphic novels are. The debut is a bit higher that expectations/projections for the debut. As has been shown with Mufasa, Wicked, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, family films right now have very long legs, so this one will likely need to be judged over a long time.

In second place was Companion which opened with $9.5 million domestically and $5.5 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $15 million.

Mufasa: The Lion King slipped to third place with an estimated $6.1 million to lift its domestic total to $229.5 million and over the week it grossed $17.9 million internationally to lift that to $423.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed over $653 million.

One of Them Days came in fourth place with $6 million to bring its domestic total to $34.5 million. Internationally it has grossed $71,194. Worldwide, it has grossed a little over $34.5 million.

Flight Risk took a dive from last week’s first place grossing $5.6 million to come in fifth. Domestically, the film has grossed $20.9 million, and internationally it has grossed $4.2 million for a worldwide total of $25.1 million after two weeks.

Over the week, the movie grossed $23.4 million internationally to bring that total to $405.6 million. After a rough start, the film has gone on to gross $626.7 million worldwide.

One of Them Days came in third place with an estimated $8 million to bring its domestic total to $25.1 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $27,865. Worldwide, the move has grossed a little over $25.1 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 held on to fourth place with $5.5 million domestically where it has now grossed $226.1 million. Over the week, the movie grossed $17 million internationally to bring that to $220.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $446.6 million.

Rounding out the top five was Moana 2 with $4.3 million to bring its domestic gross to a little over $450 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $576 million bringing the worldwide total to a little over $1.026 billion.

Update: Mufasa: The Lion King in the end topped the weekend box office with $12.1 million compared to One Of them Days‘ $11.8 million.

It was a close one for the top of the box office but for now, it looks like One of Them Days took the top of the box office with $11.6 million. Things might change when the final numbers are released but the movie just barely beat Mufasa: The Lion King by around $70,000. There was no international gross reported.

Mufasa: The Lion King remained in second place for the second week in a row with just over $11.5 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $205.8 million. Over the week, the film grossed $31.3 million internationally to bring that to $382.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $592 million.

Wolf Man debuted in third place with $10.6 million domestically for $12 million total since it opened and $4.8 million internationally for a worldwide total of $16.8 million. It’s hard to say if this was good or bad But with a reported budget of just $25 million, the movie doesn’t need a ton to be profitable.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continues to bring in the gold rings. It grossed $8.6 million domestically to bring its domestic total to $216.5 million. Internationally, the move grossed $23.2 million to bring its total to $203.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $422.4 million worldwide.

Rounding out the top five was Den of Thieves: Pantera which opened in first place the previous week. The film grossed $6.6 million to bring its domestic total to $26.2 million. Internationally, the film has grossed a little over $5 million for a worldwide total of $32.4 million.

Nosferatu came in fourth with $6.8 million to bring its domestic gross to $81.8 million. Internationally, the film got a big boost over the week with just under $23 million to lift that to $54 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $135.8 million.
