Moana 2 wins the weekend box office leading a solid holiday

Moana 2

Moana 2 won the weekend box office with an impressive $135.5 million domestically. It opened earlier in the week and already has grossed $221 million. Internationally, the movie has also grossed $165.3 million for a worldwide gross of $386.3 million. It’s already in the top ten domestic gross for the year.

Moana debuted in 2016 with $56.6 million domestically, about $74.4 million in today’s dollars and went on to gross $643.3 million worldwide.

Wicked slipped to second place with $80 million to lift its domestic gross to $262.4 million. Over the week, the film also gross $46.6 million internationally where it has now grossed $96.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $359.3 million.

Gladiator II came in third place with $30.7 million domestically and now has grossed $111.2 million since its opening. Over the week, it also grossed $43.3 million internationally and now has grossed $208.8 million since its opening. Worldwide, the movie has earned a little over $320 million.

Red One was fourth with $12.9 million domestically where it has now grossed $76.1 million. Internationally, the movie added $8.4 million over the week to bring that to $72.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $148.7 million.

Rounding out the top five was The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It added $3.3 million to its domestic total which is now a little over $32 million. Internationally, it has grossed $120,463. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $32.1 million.

In comic film news…

Venom: The Last Dance added $2.2 million to its domestic total which is now $137.9 million. Internationally, it grossed $7.7 million to bring that to $330.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $468.2 million.

Transformers One remained at $59.1 million domestically. It also remained at $69.8 million internationally. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $128.9 million. With a budget between $75-147 million, the film’s success will be debated and will rely heavily on toy sales to truly determine.

Deadpool & Wolverine grossed a little over the week but the domestic total remains at $636.7 million. Internationally, the movie gained a bit and is now a little over $701.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.338 billion.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next is still just over $5 million domestically. The film gained about $300,000 over the week and is now at $27 million internationally. Worldwide the total is a little over $32 million.

Joker: Folie à Deux‘s domestic gross remained $58.3 million. Internationally the film remained at $148.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just over $206.4 million.

Bocchi the Rock! Re: remained at $167,948 domestically and has grossed $3.4 million internationally for a worldwide total of $3.5 million.

The Crow‘s domestic total remained unchanged with being just under $9.3 million. Internationally, the movie gained a little and is now just over $14.7 million. The worldwide total is now just under $24 million.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi remained at about $1.9 million domestically and remained unchanged internationally to for that total to remain steady at $12.4 million for a worldwide total of $14.3 million.

Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle remained just under $7.1 million domestically and 1nternationally it remained at $93.2 million for a worldwide gross of $100.3 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 51 films earning $276,753,489 from 23,795 theaters. That’s a massive increase from the previous weekend’s $202,361,619 from 26,805 theaters and 44 films. The average earning was $11,630.74 which is a big bump from the previous weekend’s $7,549.40.

Red One takes first place at the weekend box office as the holiday season films continue

Red One won the weekend box office with an estimated $34.1 million domestically and it also grossed $50 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $84.1 million. With Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans starring, it’s hard to really say if that was an opening success or not. There’s a chance the film has legs but with Wicked opening soon, expect the holiday season movie magic to quickly be sucked up and shift to that.

Venom: The Last Dance slipped to second place with an estimated $7.4 million domestically to bring that to $127.6 million after four weeks. Internationally, it added $29.1 million over the week to bring that to $308.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $436.1 million. It’s likely the film will end right around where 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage wound up. With a much lower opening weekend, that’s unexpected and impressive.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever held on to third place with $5.4 million domestically to bring its total to just under $20 million after two weeks.

Heretic dropped to fourth place after being in second place last week with $5.2 million. It has grossed $20.4 million domestically so far. It also grossed $2.4 million internationally over the week to bring that to a little over $5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $25.4 million after two weeks.

The Wild Robot wrapped up the top five with $4.3 million to lift its domestic total to $137.8 million. It also grossed about $9 million over the week internationally which is now $170.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $308.5 million.

It’s a three-peat for Venom: The Last Dance which held on to first place at the weekend box office. The film added $16.2 million to its domestic total to bring it to $114.8 million. Internationally, the film is at $279.4 million for a worldwide total of $394.2 million.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever debuted in second place with $11.1 million domestically.

Heretic debuted in third place with $11 million domestically and $2.6 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $13.6 million.

The Wild Robot slipped to fourth place adding $6.7 million to its domestic total which is now $130.9 million. Internationally, the movie grossed about $13.9 million over the week to bring that to $161.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $292.5 million.

Smile 2 rounded out the top five with an even $5 million domestically to bring that to $60.5 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $6 million over the week to increase that gross to $63.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has brought in $123.6 million so far.

Venom: The Last Dance held on to first place over the past weekend in its second weekend. The film grossed an estimated $26.1 million to bring its total to a little over $90 million. That’s a drop of only 48.8%, which might seem high, but when it comes to blockbusters, it’s not bad. Internationally, the film is rocking adding another $103 million over the week for a worldwide total of a little over $317 million after two weeks.

The Wild Robot improved one spot in its sixth week increasing its gross from the previous week by 10.9% to $7.6 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $121.5 million. Over the week, it grossed over $26.6 million to bring its international total to $147.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $269.1 million.

Smile 2 slipped on spot to third place with $6.8 million to bring its domestic total to $52.7 million after three weeks. Over the week, it grossed $14.1 million internationally to bring that total to $57.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $109.8 million worldwide.

Conclave remained in fourth place with $5.3 million domestically where it has now grossed $15.2 million. There is no international gross.

Venom: The Last Dance takes the top of the weekend box office

Venom: The Last Dance

It’s no surprise, but Venom: The Last Dance was the top film this past weekend grossing an estimated $51 million domestically. Internationally, the film grossed a whopping $124 million for a worldwide debut of $175 million. The original Venom debuted in 2018 with $80.3 million and went on to gross $213.5 million domestically and $856.1 million worldwide. Its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, debuted with $90 million domestically in 2021 and went on to gross $213.6 million domestically and $506.8 million worldwide. With very mixed reviews, expect the third to fall short of the first two but still have a decent run.

Smile 2 slipped to second place in its second weekend with $9.4 million domestically and bringing its overall gross to $40.7 million. Internationally, the film added $20 million over the week to bring that to $43 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $83.7 million.

The Wild Robot came in third place with an estimated $6.5 million to bring its domestic total to $111.4 million. Over the week, it grossed $26.7 million internationally to bring that to just under $121 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $232.3 million.

Conclave debuted in fourth place with $6.5 million domestically.

We Live in Time rounded out the top five with $4.8 million domestically to bring that total to $11.8 million. The movie isn’t really playing internationally where it has grossed $307,823, about $200k more than the previous week. Worldwide, the film has grossed $12.1 million.

Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $201.1 million.
