Geralt’s adventures continues in The Witcher Omnibus Volume 2

Dark Horse Books and CD Projekt Red present a new collection: The Witcher Omnibus Volume 2. The comic miniseries collected in this omnibus are written by Bartosz Sztybor and Aleksandra Motyka. Joining them are artists Marianna Strychowska, Amad Mir, Vanesa R. Del Rey, and Nil Vendrell. Colors for the comics are by Lauren Affe, Hamidreza Sheykh, Jordie Bellaire, and Miquel Muerto. The comics are lettered by Steve Dutro, Aditya Bidikar, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The Witcher Omnibus Volume 2 features cover art by Evan Cagle. 

This new Omnibus is a collection of more than 300 pages of action, mystery, and suspense featuring Geralt of Rivia in three standalone stories. These include encounters with familiar faces, to a small town besieged by a pack of foglets, and to the dwellings of witches. 

The Witcher Omnibus Volume 2 collects The Witcher: Of Flesh and Flame #1-4, The Witcher: Fading Memories #1-4, The Witcher: Witch’s Lament #1-4, and the Free Comic Book Day 2021 short story “The Witcher: Once Upon a Time in the Woods,” and includes a cover gallery, expanded sketchbook section, and more.

The Witcher Omnibus Volume 2 will be available in bookstores September 12, 2023 and comic shops September 13, 2023. It is available for pre-order now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and at your local comic shop and will retail for $29.99.

I’m certainly someone who jumped on The Witcher train late. Once the stories of Geralt of Rivia were on Netflix, I ate them up. I jumped into the books, into Witcher 3 on PS 4, and then last but not least, the Dark Horse stories that were published. Truth be told, I’m not an easy sell on licensed comics. I do tend to feel they never do proper justice in the medium to where the stories originate. That said, I think The Witcher stories Dark Horse has published are pretty great.

In The Witcher: Fading Memories #1, Geralt’s work as a slayer of beasts has slowed of late and he takes up work with a fisherman only to be pulled away to fight foglets. Something isn’t quite right with the behavior of the foglets, leaving Geralt wanting to stay longer to investigate.

Part of what works is the build-up with the Witcher’s adventures. There’s some exceptionally good groundwork built here for a story that bounced between his work helping Badreine’s mayoress with the murderous foglets to his work as a fisherman. I credit Bartosz Sztybor with crafting an intriguing first chapter.

Amad Mir’s artwork lends itself to establishing a dark and murky atmosphere to Geralt’s adventure. It’s not the most detailed artwork but that’s alright. The coloring did fit but I would have liked a bit more of an expanded color palette.

Overall, I’m not overly impressed with the art but I am enjoying where the story is going. I’m still looking to take in as much of the Witcher’s adventures that I can and The Witcher: Fading Memories #1 continues to help the comic book stories of the Witcher excel in this medium.

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Ever: The Way Out (Abstract Studios) – Terry Moore shifts to graphic novels and while we love his serialized comics, a complete story has us excited. This one about prophecies and fallen angels has us very intrigued.

I Walk With Monsters #1 (Vault Comics) – A story about the monsters within as a woman runs into the man who took away her brother.

Kaiju Score #1 (AfterShock) – It’s the most dangerous heist ever attempted. Four desperate criminals are going all in on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to steal millions in art and turn their miserable lives around. The catch? They have to pull it off under the nose of a one thousand-ton Kaiju.

Nailbiter Returns #7 (Image Comics) – The series has been a blast as its had fun with horror tropes keeping readers on their toes and delivering laughs.

The Other History of the DC Universe #1 (DC Comics/DC Black Label) – The first issue is absolutely brilliant as the talented John Ridley explores the DC Universe through the viewpoint of its minority characters.

Paris 2119 (Magnetic Press) – Instantaneous teleportation has altered almost every facet of human civilization but that progress has a price. The sci-fi/cyberpunk story has us intrigued.

Power Pack #1 (Marvel) – The Power Pack is back! But, with a law restricting underage superheroes, will they be able to continue to save the day?

The Red #1 (Heavy Metal Virus) – A single government runs the world after a nuclear war and content deemed emotionally dangerous is prohibited. A group of musicians discovers they’re the key to overthrowing the totalitarian government.

Science Comics: Rocks & Minerals (First Second) – Fun for kids and adults, this series are great graphic novels to learn about their topics.

Shang-Chi #3 (Marvel) – The first two issues have been fantastic as the team has reworked a problematic character. It’s full of action and adding so much depth to the character’s history.

Undiscovered Country #10 (Image Comics) – The series has kept us guessing as to what will happen next. The fact we’re constantly surprised is a good thing.

Yasmeen #4 (Scout Comics) – One of the best comics to come out this year, it’s been heartbreaking every issue.

X-O Manowar #2 (Valiant) – The series has been an interesting look at modern superheroes so far as X-O Manowar attempts to figure out his place in the world. The second issue really focuses on what the impact of superheroes would be in a real-world setting.

Geralt Returns to Comics in The Witcher: Fading Memories

For fans who can’t get enough of the White Wolf, CD Projekt Red and Dark Horse Comics are teaming up again to bring you a brand-new story set in the world of the smash hit game series! Penned by Bartosz Sztybor and illustrated by Amad Mir, with a cover by Evan Cagle, The Witcher: Fading Memories follows the further adventures of Geralt of Rivia.

Geralt has become impoverished and dejected since monster threats have seemingly vanished. Times have always been hard for Witchers—but without continual work, his situation has worsened. As Geralt explores new possibilities for his life path, he receives a request from the Mayor of Towitz, a small town where children are being kidnapped by Foglets…but something feels off about this new threat.

The Witcher: Fading Memories #1 (of four) goes on sale June 17, 2020.
