The Walking Dead infects Image’s covers in October with variants

Image Comics has announced a line of exciting team-up variants in celebration of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead hitting its milestone 20 year anniversary. These variant covers will infect Image Comics titles all through October and feature Image artists’ unique interpretations of the iconic horror series’ characters.

The first nine Walking Dead team-up variants revealed this week feature artwork by such comics superstars as Skottie Young (on I Hate Fairyland #10), Declan Shalvey (on Time Before Time #28), Dean Rankin (on Untold Tales of I Hate Fairyland #4), Andrea Sorrentino (on Tenement #5), Stefano Simeone (on connecting variants for: No/One #7, Radiant Black #28 covers C & DRogue Sun #17, and The Dead Lucky #10).

The Walking Dead first launched in 2003 from Image Comics and garnered critical acclaim and an escalating sales track-record before Hollywood picked up the hot IP and the series was adapted from TV by AMC in 2010. It was also in 2010 that Kirkman teamed up with David Alpert to launch the multiplatform entertainment company, Skybound Entertainment, which would expand his—and others’—IP beyond comics into other mediums. The Walking Dead has since gone on to become a pop culture phenomenon inspiring everything from hit video games, novelizations, merchandise, and a multitude of multimedia spin-offs across the walker universe. The series has sold over 45 million copies across multiple formats and has been translated into 21 languages globally.

The Dead Lucky, Vol. 1 gets a music video from Al1ce!

Image Comics has unveiled a collaboration between Massive-Verse’s The Dead Lucky and dark wave band AL1CE in the form of an electrifying video trailer for the upcoming The Dead Lucky, Vol.1 by Melissa Flores and French Carlomagno. This highly anticipated trade paperback release will collect issues #1-6 of the comic book series and be available from Image Comics in March.

AL1CE captures the tone and drama of the series and brings the artwork to life through their talents.

The Dead Lucky, Vol. 1 is set in a changing San Francisco and is centered around tech consortium MORROW. MORROW is buying up land—their peacekeeper robots looming on every corner—and wherever Morrow isn’t, the local gangs are.

Bibiana Lopez-Yang is changing too. The incident in Afghanistan that killed her platoon left her with a unique power to control electricity—but haunted by the ghosts of those she lost. With some unlikely friends, Bibi might just have a chance to save her city. But against an enemy this powerful, it won’t be enough to be good. She’ll have to be lucky.

The Dead Lucky, Vol. 1 (ISBN: 978-1534324664) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, March 22 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and Indigo on Tuesday, March 28.

More Spawn Variants Revealed!

Image Comics has revealed the final six Spawn team-up variants—as part of the Spawn takeover campaign—which will grace the covers of the upcoming issues of The Dead Lucky, The Walking Dead Deluxe, Antioch, Radiant Black, Time Before Time, and The Old Dog. The total number of Spawn team-up variants clocks in at 50 jaw-dropping covers.

Todd McFarlane’s iconic, history-making, record-breaking Spawn will be everywhere next month and will appear on over nearly 50 different Image Comics series’ covers in addition to popping up on many DC variants as part of the Batman/Spawn crossover launch.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Image Comics—and of Spawn’s launch—and December’s Spawn team-up covers provide fans with the perfect way to celebrate the beloved character’s lasting impact and influence on the medium. Everywhere customers look, there Spawn will be.

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

007 #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – A new volume and James Bond story, we’re of course excited for that.

The Closet #3 (Image Comics) – If you’re a fan of horror, this is one that’s well worth checking out. It wraps up here so make sure to pick up the first two issues if you missed out!

Dark Crisis #3 (DC Comics) – DC’s event has been interesting to start so far and with the clear Crisis on Infinite Earths tie-in, we want to see if things really start rolling now.

DC vs. Vampires #8 (DC Comics) – The series has been amazing so far. It has kept readers guessing who gets turned, who’s a vampire, and who’s not going to make it. Anything can happen!

The Dead Lucky #1 (Image Comics) – A new entry in the Massive-verse. It’s a new superhero that’s one to keep an eye on if you enjoy the genre.

Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (Marvel) – Marvel’s about to do something big with the Spider-Verse and things get rolling here!

Radiant Black and the Massive-Verse Expands with The Dead Lucky

Debut writer Melissa Flores unites with superstar artist French Carlomagno and colorist Mattia Iacono for an all-new Massive-Verse comic, The Dead Lucky. This ongoing series will launch from Image Comics this August.

In The Dead Lucky, San Francisco is changing. Tech consortium Morrow is building the city of the future with “peacekeeper” robots looming on every corner—and wherever Morrow isn’t, the Salvation gang is.

Bibiana Lopez-Yang is changing too. She came back from Afghanistan with PTSD and the ability to control electrical currents. If she can hold it together, she might be the hero San Francisco needs. But against an enemy this big, it isn’t enough to be good. She’ll have to be lucky.
