Argylle repeats in first place in a slump of a weekend

Could it have been the Super Bowl? Could it have been the movies? Nicer than normal weather? The weekend box office was a weak one as Argylle took the top spot again for the second weekend in a row. The film added $6.5 million to its domestic total to raise that to $28.8 million. Internationally, the film does a little better with $31.3 million for a worldwide total of $60.1 million after two weeks.

Lisa Frankenstein debuted in second place $3.8 million domestically.

The Beekeeper repeated in third place with $3.5 million bringing its domestic total to $54.7 million after three weeks. Internationally, the film has grossed $79.2 million bringing their grand total $133.9 million overall.

The Chosen: S4 Episodes 1-3 dropped from second to fourth with an estimated $3.2 million to bring its domestic total to $12.6 million in two weeks. Internationally, the show grossed $31,815 for a worldwide total just above $12.6 million.

Wonka slipped one spot to round out the top five with $3.1 million. In 9 weeks, the movie has grossed $205.3 million domestically. Internationally, it has near doubled that with $382.3 million for a worldwide gross of $587.6 million.

In comic film news…

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been having a slow slide since its opening weekend and added $1.1 million to its domestic total in its eighth week. Domestically, the film now stands at $122.3 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $307.4 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $429.7 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 73 films earning $36,975,722 from 39,083 theaters. That’s a drop from the previous weekend’s $60,218,250 from 37,876 theaters and 63 films. The average earning was $946.08 which is a decrease from the previous weekend’s $1,589.88.

Nothing changed at the weekend box office as the top six for this week was the same top six from the previous week. Mean Girls held on to the top spot with an estimated $11.7 million which brings the domestic total to just over $50 million. Over the week, it grossed $9.7 million internationally to bring that total to $16.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed over $66.2 million.

The Beekeeper came in second place with an estimated $8.5 million to bring its domestic total to $31.1 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $41.4 million over the week to bring that to $44.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $75.3 million.

Wonka was in third place with an estimated $6.4 million to bring its domestic gross to $187.2 million. Over the week, it grossed $15.5 million internationally where it has now grossed $344.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $531.8 million.

Anyone But You was fourth with an estimated $5.4 million to bring its domestic gross to $64.2 million. Internationally, the movies added $13.2 million to that total over the week which is now an even $36 million.

Migration wrapped up the top five with an estimated $5.3 million for a domestic total of $94.7 million. It added about $10 million over the week internationally where it has now grossed $96.9 million and a worldwide total of $191.6 million.

In comic film news…

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom held on to sixth place and grossed $3.7 million. Domestically, the film now stands at $114.2 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $16.5 million over the week to bring that total to $282 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $396.2 million.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse got a re-release coming in at #26 with $150,000 domestically.

The Marvels‘ domestic total remained steady at $84.5 million. Things are going a bit better internationally where the film added around $50,000 over the week to bring it to $121.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $206.1 million.

Mean Girls delivers a fetch weekend box office

Mean Girls ruled the weekend box office with $28.7 million over the weekend and $33.2 million through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Internationally, the film also grossed $6.5 million delivering a total of $39.7 million for the weekend. The movie cost just $36 million to make and was originally planned for Paramount+ before positive test screenings led to it being released on the big screen.

In second place was The Beekeeper with an estimated $16.8 million over the weekend and $19.2 million for the holiday weekend. Internationally, the film has grossed $2.8 million for a worldwide debut of just under $22 million so far.

Wonka continued to deliver treats coming in third with an estimated $8.4 million to bring its domestic total to $178.7 million. Over the week, it grossed $27.9 million internationally to bring that total to $329.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $507.8 million.

Anyone But You improved from the previous weekend to come in fourth with an estimated $6.9 million to bring its domestic total to $56.5 million. Internationally, the film added $8.1 million to lift that total to $22.8 million for a worldwide gross of $79.3 million.

Migration wrapped up the top five with an estimated $6.2 million for a domestic total of $87.9 million. It added about $14 million over the week internationally where it has now grossed $86.9 million and a worldwide total of $174.7 million.

The Marvels‘ domestic total remained steady at $84.5 million. Things are going a bit better internationally where the film added a little under $100,000 over the week to bring it to $121.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $206 million.
