Just as the case of the missing Laapeerians was about to come together, the Cerritos was heavily damaged in a dogfight against an unidentified vessel and forced to return to Federation space… without the away team.
Repairs on the Cerritos are bound to take weeks, but Captain Freeman and Mariner aren’t about to sit around and wait when they have an abandoned away team to rescue — especially one under Boimler’s command.
Together, they formulate a heist to steal a decommissioned starship and mount a daring rescue before their unknown assailants blast Laapoonia, and their crew members, away.
When Commander Jack Ransom promised Boimler command of the away team on Laapoonia in the event that both he and Sun-Sanchez — his Number One — were taken out of commission, he didn’t think it’d, like, actually happen. But now, Boimler is in charge, and things have gone full-blown Crisis Royale: A planet’s missing population, a big-ass alien warship, and a team at each other’s throats threaten to explosively end the Cerritos’ second-contact mission with Laapeeria. The Cerritos away team begin their investigation on Laapoonia to find out what happened to the Laapeerians. (Don’t get Laapeeria and Laapoonia twisted — it’s not that hard.) Despite their best efforts, and much to Tendi’s chagrin, everyone on the crew except T’Lyn manages to offend the Laapoonians before they can get any answers… How will the Cerritos ever make second contact with the Laapeerians if they can’t even get their first contact with the Laapoonians right?
It’s time for a long-overdue second contact with the species with whom the U.S.S. Cerritos made its first first contact: the Laapeerians. But when the crew arrives on Laapeeria bearing gifts, Freeman and company are shocked to discover the entire planet has been abandoned! While all the dwellings and infrastructure remain, there isn’t a soul to be found… Where have all the Laapeerians gone? And do the Laapoonians on the planet next door know anything about it?
The Lower Deckers and Cetacean Ops officers Kimolu and Matt continue their mission to replenish Earth’s population of humpback whales! The krill situation is getting out of control, and the songs they sing are just too good to let them die out. There’s also the pesky situation where Ronald (the last whale!) has to occasionally talk that uptight space probe (whenever it shows up) into sparing the Earth from doom and destruction. But Ronald’s getting on in age and won’t be around forever… so the crew needs to find him a love match, stat, or Earth might face its end.
The crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is back in a new ongoing comic series that’s a big, fun adventure from the hit TV show Star Trek: Lower Decks.
First up, a mysterious ghost ship appears just in time, as Mariner is becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of thrills aboard the Cerritos! The thrill level increases significantly when the team is beamed onto an equally mysterious surface of an unknown world populated by an alien race that wishes to learn more about mentorship…through a battle royale! Enter Jadzia Dax, Montgomery Scott, Kathyrn Janeway, T’Pol, and Jean-Luc Picard as the mentors and the Lower Deckers as the mentees!
