The Countdown Begins… for the Snake Plissken Premium Format Figure

John Carpenter‘s classic film Escape From New York (1981) shows a dark vision of the near-future. A former Special Forces soldier turned criminal, Snake Plissken, is forced to rescue the President who is being held hostage in Manhattan – which is now a deadly maximum security prison. Breaking out is impossible. Breaking in is insane.

The Snake Plissken Premium Format Figure by Sideshow is an officially licensed Escape From New York collectible that pays tribute to this cult classic movie icon.

Measuring 22.25 inches tall, 10.81 inches wide, and 11.27 inches deep, this detailed statue presents the former soldier on his mission to retrieve the President. He stands surrounded by the dystopian remnants of society, with the famous Wall Street sign lost among the rubble, rebar, and tattered caution tape. A manhole cover beneath Snake’s boots is the only thing that stands between him and the killer Crazies.

The Snake Plissken Premium Format Figure is sculpted wearing a detailed recreation of his rugged ’80s style, including his jacket, black undershirt, signature camo pants, and spike-toed boots.

Of course, Snake didn’t go in unprepared — the statue also features his belt and gun holsters, a tracker in his left hand, a submachine gun with silencer and scope (soft fabric strap included) in his right hand, and the Life Clock countdown timer on his wrist to ensure he stays on task. A detailed portrait completes his iconic silhouette with an eyepatch, cigarette, facial hair, and styled mullet, all ready for action.

BOOM! Teases Snake Plissken

BOOM! Studios clearly has a good relationship with John Carpenter. Carpenter’s movie Big Trouble in Little China is recently launched comic series by him, and it looks like another of his characters will be coming back to the comic page (ironically also portrayed by Kurt Russell, who was in Big Trouble in Little China).

Today, BOOM! teased Snake Plissken, the hero from Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. Who knows if we’ll see an extension of either of those movies, or the comic company mining more of his world.

There have been long time rumors dating back to 2007 of a remake/reboot of the movie series.
