Exclusive: Sierra Barnes’ anti-fascist fairytale Hans Vogel is Dead returns with its second volume in Fall 2025

Sierra Barnes’ anti-fascist fairytale continues in Hans Vogel is Dead Volume 2, published for the first time in print! Written and illustrated byhistorian-turned-cartoonist Barnes, this second volume collects chapters 6-10 of the webcomic and includes historical notes, in-world side stories, and a sketchbook section.

Hans thought he and Reineke would be safe in the castle where resistance to the evil Erlking was rallying its forces. Instead, he found a doddering old king clinging to broken ideals, tension amongst the would-be allies, and a ghost from his past with its talons around his throat. So, when he and Reineke have a chance to leave the castle in pursuit of a wayward princess, they take it. Running from his fears takes Hans from an imprisoned potential ally to the heart of his enemy’s fortress, but his time is running out, and a collision with the monsters within and without is inevitable. Can he muster his post-mortem morality to make a stand for what’s right, or will he return to complicit cowardice?

Hans Vogel is Dead Volume 2 (288 pages, paperback, 6.625″ x 10.1875″)will be available in bookstores and comic shops on December 2 and 3, 2025, respectively. It is now available to pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Things from Another World, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $29.99.

Limit Break Comics to Launch Fractured Realms at Thought Bubble 2023

Fractured Realms

Dublin based comic collective Limit Break Comics will launch Fractured Realms, an anthology of Norse Horror comics, at Thought Bubble 2023. The book is the third myth-anthology to be published by Limit Break Comics, following the success of Turning Roads and Down Below.

Valhalla Awaits.

In a new anthology from Limit Break Comics, explore the fall of man at the end of times, the horrors of beasts straight out of myth, the dreadful actions of men who know no bounds, and the chilling truth of nature when the wheel of violence turns for too long.

Hans Vogel is Dead in September

Coming from Dark Horse Books is Hans Vogel is Dead Volume 1, the first book in a new trilogy by historian-turned-cartoonist Sierra Barnes. Originally debuting as a webcomic, then on Kickstarter and eventually Cast Iron Books in the UK, this anti-fascist fairytale focuses on the importance of recognizing past wrongs. It’s the height of WWII, and the Nazi forces are driving through Europe. Decorated German fighter pilot Hans Vogel follows orders and doesn’t ask questions. It’s worked out well for him… so far. But when his plane is shot down in the middle of an air raid over London, he is dead before he hits the ground. And that’s only the beginning of his problems.

Hans Vogel is Dead Volume 1 will be available in comic shops September 20, 2023 and in book stores September 19, 2023. It is now available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and indie bookstore.
