NYCC 2026: Wizards of the Coast reveals Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny and more!

Posted on by Leave a comment

When Wizards of the Coast released their wide Marvel set for Magic: The Gathering, we noted a lack of mystical characters and guessed we’d be seeing a future release dedicated to them. A game featuring wizards without Marvel’s mystical side of its universe seemed a bit odd. Well, our prediction is now a reality as Wizards of the Coast and Marvel have revealed Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny. In collaboration with Marvel, Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is the first Universes Beyond set created around an original story and setting. The panel also unveiled additional Marvel collaborations coming in 2026 including the Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel’s History of Heroes and Doomsdrop.

  • An ancient, ornate book surrounded by twisting, colorful tentacles and mist, suggesting a magical or mysterious theme.
  • A powerful sorceress stands at the center, surrounded by shadowy figures, wielding a glowing orb of magic. The atmosphere is dark and mystical, with vibrant colors illuminating the scene from behind, suggesting an ominous setting.
  • A pair of hands with green skin cradling a glowing green egg, surrounded by vibrant flowers and twisting plant vines.
  • Thor wielding Mjolnir and Doctor Strange casting spells amidst a stormy background filled with lightning and mystical symbols.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING | MARVEL: DARKHOLD DESTINY

The mystical, the mythical, and the mighty come together in Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny. For the first time ever, the teams at Marvel and Magic collaborated to create a brand-new storyline set in the Marvel Universe. This is a new kind of Universes Beyond set. By taking the core elements players love about Magic: The Gathering, the team thoughtfully and strategically expressed those design intentions through the Marvel Universe. The narrative unfolds across nearly 30 dimensions and is centered around four main characters—Doctor Strange, Thor, Hela, and Dormammu. Additionally, a new comic book will be released that showcases this groundbreaking new story. The comic’s first chapter releases digitally and the physical edition releases the week of Darkhold Destiny’s launch, on April 7, 2027.

Magic: The Gathering announces a Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe Superdrop

Posted on by

Wizards of the Coast and Mattel have announced Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: The Most Powerful Superdrop in the Universe, a new collection of five limited Magic: The Gathering drops inspired by the legendary heroes, villains, artifacts, and worlds of Masters of the Universe.

The Superdrop was first teased through select artwork during MagicCon: Amsterdam, giving fans an early look at how Eternia and Etheria are coming to Magic. Across the five drops, The Most Powerful Superdrop in the Universe brings together He-Man, Skeletor, She-Ra, the forces of good and evil, and the unmistakable fantasy action of Masters of the Universe through all-new artwork inspired by the franchise’s classic packaging, animation, and larger-than-life characters.

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: By the Power of Grayskull! brings He-Man and his allies to Magic with artwork inspired by classic Masters of the Universe packaging. When evil gets ambitious, He-Man raises the Sword of Power, Orko makes the battle more magical, Man-At-Arms makes sure it stays winnable, and Castle Grayskull remains the kind of place everyone has strong opinions about controlling.

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Nyah-ha-ha! gives Skeletor the spotlight he would insist he already deserved. Inspired by classic animation cels and illustrated by Secret Lair artist Tyler Walpole, this drop follows the Lord of Destruction, his Evil Warriors, and a plan so brilliant that any setbacks should be considered temporary, irrelevant, and definitely someone else’s fault.

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: She-Ra, Princess of Power brings the Great Rebellion from Etheria to Magic. With She-Ra at the center, Bright Moon stands against the Horde with courage, resolve, and the kind of power that refuses to be commanded. Fans who collect the full Superdrop can also bring the drops together into a Masters of the Universe-themed Commander deck centered around She-Ra, Princess of Power.

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Allies and Enemies of Eternia celebrates the larger world of Eternia, where every hero, villain, sorceress, beast, actor, and heavily armed plan seems to arrive with a name, a purpose, and a strong visual identity. Some protect Castle Grayskull. Some lurk around Snake Mountain. All of them make the battlefield more interesting.

Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe: Sold Separately gathers the essentials no battle between good and evil should be without: loyal mounts, legendary weapons, sinister thrones, and fortresses with presence. Heroism is included. Evil ambition is included. Some assembly may be required.

All Secret Lair x Masters of the Universe drops will be available in non-foil editions for $29.99 and foil editions for $39.99 through Secret Lair’s online store while supplies last.

Magic: The Gathering Launches Five Secret Lair x The Hobbit Drops

Posted on by

Wizards of the Coast has launched five Secret Lair x The Hobbit drops as part of A Marvelous Mathoms Superdrop. These limited Magic: The Gathering collections follow Bilbo Baggins from Bag End to the Lonely Mountain, with stops for riddles in the dark, meals worth remembering, wild roads, Dragon hoards, and the kind of trouble that tends to begin when someone says it’s time for an adventure.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: He Who Walks Unseen follows Bilbo Baggins through moments where a Hobbit can vanish from view and still find himself exactly where the trouble is. Available exclusively in the Out of Sight edition, this drop uses a brand-new foil treatment created to emphasize Bilbo’s outline in each scene, whether anyone can see him or not.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Second Breakfast and Beyond celebrates one of the great Hobbit traditions: knowing when it is time to eat. Featuring seven food tokens inspired by the seven meals Hobbits enjoy throughout the day, this drop brings breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevenses, and the rest of the day’s essentials to Magic.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Over the Edge of the Wild follows Bilbo beyond the comforts of The Shire and into the stranger turns of the road ahead. Inspired by mid-century stop-motion television specials, this drop imagines key moments from The Hobbit with a playful, handmade sensibility suited for Trolls, spiders, forests, and other reasons to reconsider leaving home.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Smaug’s Spoils asks what might happen if a few Magic artifacts found their way into Smaug’s hoard. This drop gathers familiar artifacts among the Dragon’s treasure, where gold, gems, and a well-placed Sol Ring all seem like exactly the sort of thing Smaug would prefer no one touch.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Desolation brings classic moments from The Hobbit through a darker, metal-inspired lens. Stark, intense, and built around fire, ruin, and confrontation, this drop explores the story’s most brutal edges with art that feels as heavy as the road to the Lonely Mountain.

Secret Lair x The Hobbit: He Who Walks Unseen will be available exclusively in Out of Sight edition for $59.99, while all other Secret Lair x The Hobbit drops will be available in Foil ($39.99) and Non-Foil ($29.99) while supplies last.

Magic: The Gathering Announces Secret Lair x Garfield Collaboration

Posted on by

Your life total is about to be saved by the miracle of lasagna. Wizards of the Coast has announced three Secret Lair x Garfield drops as part of the Cats Are the Best Superdrop. These special, limited Magic: The Gathering collections showcase many sides of Jim Davis‘ Garfield—whether he’s motivating you to defeat your opponents, hunting for his prey atop a saber-toothed tiger, or helping you play Magic: The Gathering exactly as it was intended.

Secret Lair x Garfield: Motivationally Challenged

Secret Lair x Garfield: Motivationally Challenged pulls from some of the character’s most memorable motivational posters and pairs them with perfectly fitting Magic cards. Ever wanted to express how much you hate Mondays? Beast Within would love to help with that! With five cards, there are plenty of ways to express how you feel at the Magic: The Gathering table.

  • 1x Rin and Seri, Inseparable as “Garfield and Odie, Best Buds”, 1x Orim’s Chant as “Talk to the Paw”, 1x Ponder as “Hang in There”, 1x Beast Within as “I Hate Mondays”, 1x Sol Ring

Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought Is to Entertain You

Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought Is to Entertain You brings the entertainer beneath the naps, lasagna, and everyday contempt to the forefront. (In this case, “entertainer” could include terrible judgment, an unchecked appetite, and the kind of comic logic that turns one bad impulse into a full-blown hallucination.) When Molten Collapse is actually marinara sauce instead of molten-hot magma, it’s either time to cut back on the lasagna—or go even harder.

  • 1x It That Betrays, 1x Maddening Cacophony, 1x Maddening Hex, 1x Hunter’s Insight, 1x Molten Collapse

Secret Lair x Garfield: As Intended

Secret Lair x Garfield: As Intended takes cards from the first Magic: The Gathering set and asks a simple question: what if Garfield himself art directed Magic in its early days? It nods to the game’s original playtest cards, which used art clipped from newspapers and magazines. Casting a Counterspell never felt so satisfying.
