San Francisco to Become Gotham City

MilesBatman290Module San Francisco to transform into Gotham City for five year old with leukemia The Make-A-Wish Foundation is granting a five year a chance to be Batman for a day. On November 15, San Francisco will be protected by Miles, who has been battling leukemia. But Miles won’t be battling villains alone, the San Francisco Police Department will be helping him as well as a “real” Batmobile. They’ll be foiling some local villains (since it’s San Francisco, maybe beating hippies). It’s a wonderful thing to see and great for the city and foundation to do.

On their website, the foundation has a run down of what the day will entail:

The day starts with a breaking news story. Gotham City’s Police Chief asks if anyone knows the whereabouts of Batman because he needs his help solving crime and bringing the bad guys to justice. Our little Batman, Miles, in training with adult Batman, is ready to answer the call! Of course Batman will be riding in the “real” Batmobile around the City, saving the day and performing feats of derring-do!

After rescuing a damsel in distress from the cable car tracks in Nob Hill, and capturing the Riddler in the act of robbing a downtown vault, Batman will eat his lunch at the Burger Bar in San Francisco – directly above Union Square. While at Burger Bar, he will get a call on his Batphone to go to the window – where he will look down and see a huge group of volunteers jumping up and down asking for Batman’s help. Why?

Because the Penguin will be kidnapping a famous Gotham City mascot! The getaway car will be visible on Union Square (a convertible so that everyone can see what is happening), and the chase will be on!

After catching the Penguin, Batman will make his final stop at City Hall, where the Mayor and the Police Chief of Gotham City will thank him and give him the key to the city.

But, they’re also encouraging folks to participate by coming out and watching Mi… we mean Batman, in action or capturing it on video to share. You can get more details on their site and we encourage folks to donate as well.

PANELS

CBLDF: After the Code
Friday,
5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Room 236/238

Earlier this year, the Comics Code Authority was shut down.  For more than fifty years the Code seal has served as a vivid reminder of the brutal government investigation and self-censorship that decimated the industry in the 1950s. It also stood as a standard that led to the censorship of a wide variety of comics. As the Code fades into history, the CBLDF moderates a discussion about how the Code impacted comics and the threats that remain in its absence. The panel will include Sergio Aragones, Mike Friedrich, Paul Levitz, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Marv Wolfman, and will be moderated by CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein.

Also on Friday:
Spotlight on Terry Moore
1:00-2:00
Room 236

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch up with one of the comic industry’s favorite indie creators! Charles Brownstein (CBLDF) will talk with Terry Moore about the finale of his latest series, ECHO, as well as exciting new projects slated for the coming year. This panel is always a fan favorite! Don’t miss it!

CBLDF: Live Art Jam
Saturday,
12:30  2:00 p.m.
Room 250/262

Watch great live art made before your eyes, on the big screen and bid to win the pieces to support a great cause!  The CBLDF Live Art Jam features Tom Hodges (Star Wars), Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), and Terry Moore (Echo), plus special guests.  Get an inside look at the creative act and win great art at the CBLDF Live Art Jam!

All the work the CBLDF does is possible because of supporters like you! Be sure to stop by booth 323 during WonderCon, April 1-3, 2011, to become a member, join us for a signing, pick up exclusive premiums, or just to share a few words of support!
