Jumanji: The Next Level Rolls Into First for the Weekend

Jumanji: The Next Level

Jumanji: The Next Level took the top spot at the box office knocking Frozen II out of the spot. With an estimated $60.1 million, Jumanji: The Next Level the sequel crushed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s $36.2 million opening two years ago. That film went on to earn $404.5 million domestically and $557.6 million internationally for a grand total of $962.1 million worldwide.

Internationally, The Next level added 34 new markets to bring that total to 52. It brought in an estimated $85.7 million to bring the international total to $152.5 million.

Frozen II came in second with an estimated $19.2 million after four weeks. Domestically the film has earned $366.5 million. Internationally, the film has earned $666 million for a global total of $1.032 billion. That’s the sixth $1 billion+ film for Disney in 2019.

In third place was Knives Out which added $9.3 million to bring its domestic total to $80 million. It also earned an estimated $13.6 million from 73 international markets to bring that total to $83.3 million and a global total of $163.3 million. It opens in Germany on January 2 and Japan on January 31st.

Richard Jewell came in fourth place with an estimated $5 million. That’s among the top 50 worst openings ever for a film over 2500 locations. The film did receive an “A” CinemaScore from opening day audiences.

Black Christmas was right behind with $4.4 million from 2625 locations another bad opening. Audiences gave the film a “D+” CinemaScore.

When it comes to comic-related film…

Joker slipped to #15 from last week’s #11. The film added $465,000 to its domestic total to bring it to $333 million after 11 weeks.
