You might not know the name Randy Gentile, but you should absolutely check out his web series NYComix detailing his life in New York City.  Gentile has been a comic industry vet lettering such series as Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Uncanny X-Men, Punisher, Daredevil, Batman, Detective Comics, Gotham Underground, Teen Titans and Booster Gold. He’s moved on, publishing his own autobiographical shorts, the basis of NYComix.

The series consists of three panels highlighting moments from the day and is published three times a week at http://lazycomix.com/.  The series is a cross between microblogging and an autobiographical comics.  A journal with pictures.  This is a tumble blog for the comics set.  What should we dub this?  Grumble blog maybe?

The observations often times are mundane but they’re honest and real, and at times made me pause and attempt to remember what I was doing at the same time.  A simple concept, a simple comic, creating a shared experience.  This isn’t just a comic strip, this is art and an amazing new direction of the comics medium.

There’s nothing like it out there (at least I’ve seen) and is a very welcome addition to the comics scene but blogging in general.

Another gem in Gentile’s portfolio is his short story Fanboy in the Big City.  The four page short story covers a moment in the writer’s life while his girlfriend was at a bachelorette party.  What’d the writer do?  Read comic books of course.

There’s some great observations about comic book shops and the concept of girlfriends and women in general to comic book collectors.
