Adrian Tomine’s Shortcomings gets an official trailer

Ben, a struggling filmmaker, lives in Berkeley, California, with his girlfriend, Miko, who works for a local Asian American film festival. When he’s not managing an arthouse movie theater as his day job, Ben spends his time obsessing over unavailable blonde women, watching Criterion Collection DVDs, and eating in diners with his best friend Alice, a queer grad student with a serial dating habit. When Miko moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to his own devices, and begins to explore what he thinks he might want.

Shortcomings is directed by Randall Park and written by Adrian Tomine, this film adaptation of Tomine’s graphic novel is only in theatres August 4th.

Randall Park is mainly known for his roles in shows like Fresh Off the Boat, WandaVision, and now Young Rock. He’s also directed a bit, mostly shorts and an episode of Fresh Off the Boat. Now, he’s stepping behind the camera to direct Shortcomings. The film is based on the graphic novel by Adrian Tomine who is the executive producer and screenwriter of the adaptation.

Shortcomings was originally released in 2007 after being serialized in issues #9 to #11 of Tomine’s Optic Nerve. The graphic novel is about a young Asian-American male in American society.

Ben Tanaka, the story’s protagonist, lives in Berkeley, California with his politically active girlfriend Miko Hayashi. Ben is uninterested in Miko’s participation in the Asian-American cultural community, but he possesses a wandering eye—specifically for Caucasian women. When Miko begins to resent what she interprets as a rejection of both her Asian heritage and of herself, she moves to New York, at which point Ben disastrously attempts to pursue the type of woman he feels he really wants.

Marvel’s WandaVision Comes to Disney+ on January 15

It’s been announced that the original Marvel Studios television series WandaVision will debut on Disney+ on January 15.

The series stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany and is the first Marvel Studios series to debut on Disney+. In it, Wanda Maximoff and Vision are living an idealized suburban life but begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

Joining Olsen and Bettany are Kat Dennings, who reprises her role as Darcy Lewis from Marvel Studios’ Thor and Thor: The Dark World; Randall Park, who reprises his role as Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and The Wasp; and newcomers Kathryn Hahn, who plays their plucky neighbor, and Teyonah Parris, who plays the adult Monica Rambeau, who was first introduced in Captain Marvel. The series is directed by Matt Shakman.

The film has Paul Rudd returning as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Judy Greer as Maggie Lang, Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie Lang, and Micheal Peña as Luis. New characters and actors include Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, and Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath. Peyton Reed returns to direct.

In theaters July 6th.
