Vampirella’s New “Season” from Christopher Priest Debuts This April!

Vampirella invites fans to bite into her next “season” of scintillating stories this coming April from industry icon Christopher Priest and artist Davis Goetten. This next chapter in the ongoing epic going on over half a decade starts in Vampirella #1, intended as a convenient jumping-on point for new and returning readers.

The Daughter of Drakulon isn’t the only such fearsome blood-sucker from the planet and family legacy. Her sister Draculina has recently lost her Vampiri powers, as well as the baby she wrested away from Vampirella. Now shackled with humanity, her already fragile psyche risks shattering when her thirst for blood unexpectedly creeps back. Confronted with the prospect of once again being consumed by the evil appetites that had controlled her for centuries, she sets out on a desperate quest to break the patterns of her past and find new answers — or die trying! And how does Vampirella herself factor into these next chapters?

Christopher Priest continues his critically acclaimed and signature approach to the franchise known as the longest running vampire comic book. Priest stands as the creator with the longest continuous un with Vampirella, cresting over 90 issues going back to 2019 with the franchise. The character also marches onwards to a historic issue #700. With the legacy numbering, this new Vampirella #1 also functions as #688. The major milestone is just about a year away! Dynamite can’t wait to celebrate that event with fans who have been with the character over five decades, or are getting to know her in this very issue.

This new debut issue features ravishingly riveting variants from superstars Lucio Parrillo, Derrick Chew, Joseph Michael Linsner, Elias Chatzoudis, as well as a cosplay cover from model Rachel Hollon.

Additionally, collectors can check out some exciting premium mystery blind bags for the issue. These bags contain three limited edition variants of the issue, selected randomly from a large range exclusive to it.

Priest’s Vampirella Presents “100th Anniversary” in a New Epic!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced the new phase in Christopher Priest‘s take on Vampirella, with a new series and perfect jumping-on point coming starting March 2025. Priest is joined by and reunited with the artist who started his run, Turkish virtuoso Ergün Gündüz.

The new story, “The Long Night” will introduce fans to parallel perspectives of the Daughter of Drakulon in the present dealing with a severe case of postpartum depression, even while finally reunited with her previously stolen infant son — and on the other hand a vision into a possible cataclysmic, cyberpunk future brought on by a bitter Vampi’s nuclear holocaust!

Attentive fans may recall mentions of “The Long Night” in previous issues of Priest’s run as a prophetic nightmare mentioned by Vampirella herself and other characters. It is akin to a “vampire Ragnarök” end of days, said to be brought on by a child of Lilith. When the demon Belial uttered it upon the birth of Draculina, the assumption was that it would be the fate of Vampi’s raven-haired, oft-evil sister — and not in fact herself. Priest’s other working title for this storyline was “Season of the Witch,” referencing the titular antiheroine’s spiral into darkness and transformation into the Witch of Ashthorne.

It all kicks into action in March’s Vampirella #1 — while keeping a dual “legacy numbering” along the march to #700, marking this issue also as #676 — as a mysterious man going by the name of Cicero appears in Vampirella’s life, claiming to be her son from the future. As a timeless vampiress, the Daughter of Drakulon’s life extends well past her 50-plus years of publication going back to 1969, yet she still appears young and vibrant. The same logic carries on to her son, with the twist that he’s come back from a time of her 100th anniversary!

Fans are invited to hop into this new series and celebrate this peek into Vampirella’s deep psyche as well as a dark future. The critically acclaimed team of Priest and Gündüz are back once more, joined with head-turning covers from the likes of Lucio Parrillo, Greg Land, Elias Chatzoudis, Jay Anacleto, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon. Rising superstar Mark Spears, beloved for his Monsters series, also contributes covers.

Savage Tales Returns With More Brutal Adventures!

An exciting recurring tradition for fans of action-packed genre tales in comics and the pulp traditions, Dynamite has announced another Savage Tales release this February.

Fan-favorite scribe and pulp fiction mastermind David Avallone is back for the latest winter time gift for readers, contributing all three new original stories within this special oversized issue featuring cardstock covers. He’s joined by a trio of rising star artists, two of which are recent graduates from the prestigious Kubert School for comics illustration.

One of the biggest power couples of pulp have an untold tale revealed, as Avallone pens “Mutiny on Mars” starring John Carter and Dejah Thoris. To draw the Barsoom-trekking adventure, Eman Casallos comes in with his honed skills.

An underrated and favorite pulp figure, Captain Gullivar Jones’ next hotly anticipated tale is shown in “His War” drawn by Kubert graduate Hamish Munro-Cook

Last but certainly not least, one of Dynamite’s biggest heroines gets the spotlight, as Vampirella’s “The Real Thing” is chronicled by Avallone and Mariano Benitez-Chapo, also a Kubie rising through the ranks.

It doesn’t end there though, as those three are topped off with a special bonus reprinting the “Seeing Red” story starring Red Sonja by Kurt Busiek and Benjamin Dewey, originally seen in the pages of fellow anthology Red Sonja: Black, White, Red.

With the pages full of action, romance, and fearsome foes, such a book packed with classic reading mandates a crop of jaw-dropping covers in the pulp painting and illustration tradition. The quartet of take-no-prisoners covers are contributed by Arthur Suydam, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon. It’s all the perfect package to stave off cabin fever as fans enter the throes of winter.

Savage Tales: Winter 2025 Special is out February 2025.

Red Sonja Faces Consequences for Her Actions in Death and the Devil

No good deed goes unpunished, and the She-Devil With a Sword will learn that in a brand new series by prolific writer Luke Lieberman in Red Sonja: Death and the Devil this September!

Readers know these sword and sorcery heroes like Red Sonja for their many conquests and enemies felled through their fables. Yet sometimes killing some foe and riding off into the sunset leaves a world of consequences behind. Sometimes, the balance of kingdoms could be at play. Across legendary, this reality is ignored, and it’s past time for Sonja to face the consequences of her blood path.

Sonja has dealt death so many times, and the spilled blood is coming back to haunt her, as chronicled by veteran scribe Luke Lieberman. He’s joined by rising star artist Alberto Locatelli, who wowed readers with his work in Vampirella: Dead Flowers. Death and the Devil is fronted by an all-star roster of cover artists including Joseph Michael Linsner, Celina, Moritat, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon.

After she killed the Sultan of Turan in Birth of a She Devil, the kingdom dissolved into a bloody chaos of serpent cults and rival warlords vying to claim the throne. Sonja knows, the bloodshed and collapse into anarchy is her fault, so she returns to find the Sultan’s true heir. At least, that is the plan…

Fans won’t want to miss this rousing tale of adventure that tallies the costs exacted by the path of the word, for a unique perspective on the genre.

Red Sonja and Steve Niles Take on the Undead!

The She-Devil With a Sword is slicing into a brand new title this April, pairing with legendary writer Steve Niles for the first time ever for an epic tale overflowing with the undead!

After landing in jail following a night of drunken revelry, a frequent Sonja specialty, the Hyrkanian heroine hears a shocking story from a fellow inmate. This is the first she’s heard of the infamous “Empire of the Damned,” a dead city hidden deep in a valley amidst the mountains. Long abandoned and forgotten, the city’s haunting streets are littered with the bones of two armies, locked in battle but obliterated by a warlock’s curse. The evil spellcaster is long gone too, but he may have left around his vast treasure or the clues to find it.

Sonja’s new pal Morgo claims that not only is this legend true, but he’s got a map and the drive for adventure. He’s just met a willing and fearsome companion for his quest. They just need to prioritize breaking out of lockup first! Fans will get to hang out with even more fun new characters in the series, like a powerful young witch named Luna.

Through his works, Niles is also known for often collaborating with artists of a similar wavelength, such as superstars Bernie Wrightson, Ben Templesmith, and Kelley Jones. The next to join that legacy of artists will be Alessandro Amoruso, set for his breakout story.

The team is joined on their quest by a party of top talents contributing covers. Joshua Middleton‘s gorgeous style mixes perfectly with the horror twist here. Joseph Michael Linsner, Philip Tan, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and a signature color bleed/negative space cover from John Tyler Christopher round out the set on the first issue.

Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned delivers monsters, magic, and mayhem in equal measure. It’s a can’t-miss chapter in the chronicles of the Hyborian Age!

Vampirella’s Baby Has Been Stolen And She’s Furious!

You either die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain, and that sage wisdom is coming true for the Daughter of Drakulon in her next chapter by legendary writer Christopher Priest and new series artist Christian Rosado. Vampirella/Dracula: Rage unleashes everywhere comics are sold this summer! Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy chronicled the complex and literally cursed relationship between the alien vampiress and her late lover Matt Ecsed, believed to be a carrier of the fabled Dracula virus. It turned out the true Dracula was around all along, but that didn’t stop the ill-fated marriage of Vampi and Matt. Readers then followed a pregnant Vampirella through Year One, flashing back to key early memories as Priest delved into her origins like never before. Unfortunately things have taken a dark turn…

A practically faceless thrall of cultists have stolen Vampirella’s baby. Absolutely wracked by inconsolable grief and unquenchable rage, Vampirella is tracking each and every one of them down across the world and withholding no mercy as she brutally exacts her maternal revenge. Along the way she’s unsettling political and economic alliances, and unraveling the global network of the baby’s true father, Dracula himself.

The roles are flipped this time, as the Lord of Vampires now hunts Vampirella in an effort to save her… from herself. She must not become like him, consumed by the rage and darkness. This series presents a macabre twist of conventions, presenting the 50-plus year old beloved vigilante as a vicious villain stalking her prey and completely lifting the restraints of her powers. Dracula is also taking on Victory as a sort of new-age Renfield, once Vampirella’s closest friend and now in possession of a ring granting her Vampi-like abilities. This duo will be tracking the blood-soaked trail of the Vampiri before she consumes all in her path, including herself.

Select issues will be presented as a sort of anthology, turning the spotlight to a new member of the mysterious cult responsible for the disappearance and presumed death of Vampi’s child. Readers will get to know these diverse people in their day to day lives, thrilling or mundane, yet relatable, until they cross paths again with an out of control Drakulonian on a mission of vengeance.

The first issue features a range of jaw-dropping covers, as fans have come to suspect in the half century of Vampirella classics. Dynamite powerhouse Lucio Parrillo leads the way. He’s joined by Celina, Mike Krome, Jay Anacleto, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and one by Priest’s frequent Vampi accomplice Ergün Gündüz.

Vampirella/Dracula: Rage is a bold new event series, serving as the bookend to Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy and the intervening Vampirella: Year One to complete the saga with the Prince of Darkness… for now. This essential series will set up a dramatic change in direction for the Daughter of Drakulon!

Meet Dejah Thoris – Thousands of Years Before John Carter!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a bold all-new vision of the Princess of Mars coming this March! Writer Chuck Brown returns to chronicle an untold chapter set before the events of the first classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

A young princess Dejah has lived a sheltered existence so far, growing up safe behind vast and thick palace walls and guarded by the greatest warriors in the land. That is, until one fateful day that changes the course of her life forever. The entire royal family is attacked by the horrific Kaldane Martians one day. The princess narrowly escapes, but now finds herself in the harsh wilds of Barsoom. She will have no recourse but to strike out on a quest to find her way back and save her kingdom.

Set a few thousand years before Dejah meets the fabled John Carter, fans will get to see her grow and discover herself beyond being a pampered princess. Alongside allies like her former Helium servant and close friend Roo, and a young Green Martian named Hudd, Dejah will hone her skills and become a warrior and champion of her people as well. She will learn more about the diverse peoples and creatures of her world, shedding her preconceived notions that her sheltered education instilled in her. Oh, and watch out for the kangaroo men and man-eating Calot trees too!

Eisner nominated writer Chuck Brown returns to the world of Barsoom, following his series John Carter Of Mars – which is solicited as a graphic novel alongside this new series. He’s joined by stellar artist Emiliana Pinna, colorist Ellie Wright and letterer Jeff Eckleberry.

In addition to Pinna and the rest of the creative team, a who’s who of top talents continue that artistic legacy with the variant covers available on this new series. Lesley “Leirix” Li leads the way, alongside Joseph Michael Linsner, Junggeun Yoon, Rebeca Puebla, Joshua “Sway” Swaby. Cosplayer Rachel Hollon also contributes a cover portraying the character. Young rising artist Jade Hope, daughter of YouTuber Gem Mint Collectibles, also makes her major direct market debut on the first issue!

Dejah Thoris #1 is slated for release in March 2023.

Draculina’s Family Reunion From Hell in… Blood Simple!

Draculina: Blood Simple, a new series starring Vampirella’s devilish sister and her teenaged better half is coming up this February. Writer Christopher Priest, artist Michael Sta. Maria, and colorist Ivan Nunes return for their follow up to 2021’s breakout Draculina title for a family brawl worthy of “VampireMania!”

Just as Draculina, Vampirella’s evil sister, has begun to acquire a grudging acceptance of Vampirette (her preteen alter-ego otherwise known as Katie), another sibling appears. This mysterious new character is drawn out by the reemergence of the demon Belial, who fathered a legion of demons with Vampirella’s mother Lilith. Levi (short for “Leviathan”) is a powerful half-sea creature with his father’s temper and his sister’s sense of evil mischief – and like Draculina, he wants Belial dead!

Vampirette has fully embraced the demon Belial, who is now retired and living quietly in Beverly Hills, as her beloved “Uncle Gio.” The siblings Draculina and Levi’s provocations threaten to reignite Belial’s evil fury, to the delight of their mother Lilith, whom Belial saved from certain death but whom she nonetheless despises. Lilith further stirs the cauldron by engineering a confrontation between Draculina and her new protégé, Victory, the new Draculina, which inevitably draws Vampirella into this sprawling family squabble as well! Set the table and warm up the oven for the family reunion from hell and one of the most expansive rosters in any Vampirella title ever!

Draculina first appeared in the pages of Vampirella #2 from Warren Publishing back in November of 1969. The character made her biggest return splash at Dynamite in 2021 in the year long companion series Sacred Six by Christopher Priest and company. Recently, Draculina starred in her first ever solo series from Priest and Sta. Maria that sets up the connection between her and her younger counterpart, Katie/Vampirette. Which now catches fans right up to this new title, but it can be jumped right into by newcomers too!

For Draculina’s grand return and this epic crossover series, a who’s who of top artists are doing variant covers. Jay Anacleto takes charge with a haunting, blood-soaked take on the antiheroine. Vampi franchise greats Joseph Michael Linsner, Rafael Kayanan, Zoe Lacchei, Lucio Parrillo, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon also join the throwdown.

Christopher Priest Explores Vampirella’s Year One

In July 2019, the boundary-breaking and acclaimed Christopher Priest kicked off Vampirella’s 50th anniversary celebration. Now, three years later the next chapter begins – by going back to the beginning! Vampirella: Year One debuts this summer.

This limited event series is not only an exploration of the Daughter of Drakulon’s earliest days, but also a follow up to the explosive conclusion of Vampirella / Dracula: Unholy. Our vampiress is now wanted for murder, with every demon, vampire, whack-job zealout, reporter, and law enforcement officer on Earth hunting for her. As she takes refuge hidden away, Vampirella begins to recall and question how and why she came to this planet in the first place.

Artist Giovanni Timpano returns to illustrate the present-set framing sequences. For the core tale, Priest is reunited with Ergün Gündüz after the pair started the whole run back on Free Comic Book Day 2019. Letterer Willie Schubert continues to contribute as well. Together, the creative team is overhauling and expanding the classic origin story from Forrest J. Ackerman and Tom Sutton that originally amounted to just a handful of pages.

Travel to the scenic, exotic sites of Drakulon, and then back in time to 1960s New York City, where Vampi finds herself grappling with depression and intense loneliness as she attempts to build a new life.

Through the series she will meet her first friends like the fan-favorites Pantha and Pendragon, as well as her first enemies. She’ll also be navigating the turn of the decade amidst one of America’s most turbulent periods. Grab your go-go boots, Afro Sheen, and love beads!

A legion of unparalleled artists contribute covers to further solidify the history-making nature of this benchmark saga. Collette Turner is here, adding to her stunning pieces from Priest’s Draculina title. Lucio Parrillo continues his covers. Guillem March returns, as he helped kick this whole Priest era off too. Derrick Chew and Joseph Michael Linsner depict a young Vampirella that fans have rarely ever seen. Rachel Hollon makes history as the first cosplay cover with the white costume. And a limited incentive cover features the jaw-dropping pencils of Kevin Nowlan.

Vampirella: Year One #1 arrives in July.

Vampirella and Red Sonja Celebrate Valentine’s Day With Specials

Though it seems far away, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. In 2022, Vampirella and Red Sonja are observing the occasion in their own special one-shot titles. A range of talented creators, including breakout cover artist Sozomaika, are set to tell lovestruck and romantic tales of two of Dynamite’s biggest stars. Each Valentine’s Special features a stunning Sozomaika take on the two powerful and beautiful heroines. Superstar Lesley “Leirix” Li also contributes a cover to each, and model Rachel Hollon swaps her outfit for the pair of cosplay covers.

Rising writer Chuck Brown, of the Eisner-nominated hit Bitter Root, leads the charge on Red Sonja’s romantic escapades. In a magical land far from Hyrkania, she’s temporarily developed supernatural abilities to manipulate fire. In “Burning Love,” she must venture into this land where powerful warlords possess ice powers, and one among them has literally exchanged their heart and soul for power. Can Sonja take down this formidable force?

Love is no easy emotion and drive to navigate as a mere mortal. Let alone as a superpowered, alien, vampire woman such as Vampirella of Drakulon. Fans will join writer and colorist Dearbhla Kelly, among others, this February for a trek through love, hate, and their complicated combinations, in Vampi’s Valentine’s Special.

The Vampirella Valentine’s Special 2022 and Red Sonja Valentin’s Special 2022 are slated for release in February 2022.
