Free Guy Wins the Box Office with a Strong Debut

Free Guy performed better than expecting taking the top spot at the weekend box office. The weekend saw three new films all enter the top five.

Free Guy debuted with an estimated $28.4 million. Video game based film Pixels opened with a little over $24 million in 2015. Internationally, Free Guy also grossed $22.5 million for a weekend total of $50.9 million.

In second place was Don’t Breathe 2. The film grossed an estimated $10.6 million in its first weekend. Internationally, the film earned $3.4 million for a weekend total of $14 million. The original film opened with a little more than $26.4 million in 2016.

Jungle Cruise dropped to third place earning an estimated $9 million to bring its domestic total to $82.1 million after three weeks. Internationally, the film added about $15.7 million over the week. The film has grossed $72.2 million internationally. Worldwide, the total stands at $154.3 million.

Respect debuted in fourth place with an estimated $8.8 million gross. No international numbers have been released.

The Suicide Squad saw a massive drop going from last weekend’s first place to fifth. With an estimated $7.8 million, the movie saw a 70.4% dip from the previous week. Domestically, the film has earned $42.9 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film grossed about $29.5 million over the week to lift that total to $75.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $118.1 million after two weeks.

In other comic film earnings…

Old went from third to sixth earning an estimated $2.4 million. Domestically, the film has grossed just under $43 million. Over the week, the film grossed a around $4.9 million internationally. It now stands at $31.6 million there. Worldwide, the film has grossed $74.6 million.

Black Widow came in seventh place with an estimated $2 million domestic gross. The film has brought in $178.2 million domestically. Internationally, the film added about $4.2 million for a total of $189.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $367.8 million.

Initial numbers have 48 films earning $75,601,843 from 35,206 theaters. That’s an improvement from last weekend’s 48 films which earned $65,081,427 from 32,857 theaters. The average earning was $2,147.41 this past weekend, slightly up from the previous weekend’s $1,980.75.

Ant-Man Holds of Pixels to Stay on Top

ant-man movie posterIn the early reports for the weekend box-office, Ant-Man has barely held off Pixels to remain in the top spot for the weekend. The film earned an estimated $24.765 million, and Pixels earned an estimated $24 million.

Ant-Man benefited from Pixels poor reviews top hold out, and crossed the $100 million mark. It has earned around $106 million, which it earned in 10 days. So far globally Ant-Man has earned $225.5 million and still has numerous territories to open up in.

In other geeky movie news. Minions held on to third place earning $22.1 million to bring its global total to $759.4 million. Jurassic World added $6.9 million domestically to bring its total to $1.542 billion. Terminator: Genisys added $2.4 million and stands at $305.1 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron continues to earn adding $347,000 to its domestic total. It now stands at $1.396 billion.

Domestically, Jurassic World stands as the top domestic earner with $623.8 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron is second with $456.6 million, and Furious 7 is third with $351 million.

Worldwide, Jurassic World has earned $1.542 billion to be in first, Furious 7 is second with $1.512 billion, and Avengers: Age of Ultron is third with $1.396 billion.
