Star Trek: Lower Decks, Vol. 2: Mixed Signals

Tim Sheridan; Robby Cook; Vernon Smith; Jack Lawrence; Philip Murphy

Everything is topsy-turvy on the Lower Decks. Intergalactic bungles, gambling, horrifying hijinks, and even good behavior?

Out of the blue, the now-perfect Stepford Crew takes charge and saves the ship. Freeman knows something is off and begins the hunt for the real (awful) Lower Deckers! To get her crew back, Freeman will have to travel dimensions, put on a show, and even cause a massacre!

In an equally horrible tragedy, Boimler is up for promotion to full lieutenant! The only thing standing in his way is a personality test—his greatest challenge yet. Follow everyone’s favorite chaotic Lower Decks crew as they fight deranged, inept creatures, and we’re not talking about them!

The Lower Deckers and Cetacean Ops officers Kimolu and Matt continue their mission to replenish Earth’s population of humpback whales! The krill situation is getting out of control, and the songs they sing are just too good to let them die out. There’s also the pesky situation where Ronald (the last whale!) has to occasionally talk that uptight space probe (whenever it shows up) into sparing the Earth from doom and destruction. But Ronald’s getting on in age and won’t be around forever… so the crew needs to find him a love match, stat, or Earth might face its end.

Sqeak, squaw, sssskkkaaa, eh, eee.

[Translation: Cetacean Ops here! Matt and I have brought the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos back to the year 1987 for a top-secret mission of great import.]

HHHkkkeeeeee, ska, ska, EeeEEAaa. Squaw, squaw. Click, cliiiiick

[Translation: That’s right, Kimolu. We need their help to fix what that blowhole Kirk messed up by bringing the whales George, Gracie, and Ronald to Earth without a way for them to repopulate its oceans. What was Ronald supposed to do, have babies with his mother?]

Skkkesaw. Eehhh, ee, ee, AaaaaAa. AH, AH, EeeEE! Sqqqqaw.

[Translation: But the remaining humpbacks have all heard freaky conspiracy theories about what happened to the last pod who went to Earth. To save the species, the Lower Deckers will have to dissuade them of the rumors and convince them Earth is worth inhabiting. Ah-yikes.]

This issue kicks off the penultimate arc of this season’s run, so be sure to order whale ahead of time!

Mattel and IDW team to bring Street Sharks to comics this September

Your local comic shop is about to get a little more jawsome. Mattel and IDW Publishing have announced that Street Sharks will be returning to comics, marking the first new release in over 20 years and introducing the beloved ’90s characters to a whole new generation. This series builds upon the partnership between Mattel and IDW Publishing.

Debuting September 2025 with Street Sharks #1 (of five issues), the series follows the action-packed adventures of the four Bolton brothers – half-shark, half-human heroes and crime fighters. Since its debut in 1994, the Street Sharks franchise has also inspired a popular Mattel action figure line.

Writer Stephanie Williams and artist Ariel Medel bring Street Sharks to the page. Based on the classic animated series, the upcoming comics will thrill readers as the Sharks protect Fission City from a range of gene-slammed threats, including super-strong and monstrous lobsters and squids, and diabolical mad scientists that transform into vicious piranha monsters. The comic will deliver on everything fans loved from the hit show and the tone of its era, from the Sharks riding cool motorcycles to eating a lot of burgers and metal while swimming through the city’s concrete to take down the bad guys.

Street Sharks #1 features covers by Philip Murphy, Elizabeth Beals, Khary Randolph, and Kevin Anthony Catalan.

Wednesday Addams doesn’t feel like she fits in anywhere. Not even at home after she discovers a beauty magazine in her Uncle Fester’s room that tells her all about how she should look and act. It doesn’t keep her down for long, however, as she quickly realizes that rather than change herself, it would be more fun to make over her family and force them to accept the societal norms they all normally reject. Reprinting the IDW one-shot, this spin-off from the animated The Addams Family movie features all your favorite characters, including Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Lurch, Thing…and, of course, Wednesday. Featuring a new macabre cover by Chynna Clugston Flores (Blue Monday), this kicks off a whole new run of comics featuring the creepy, kooky, altogether spooky Addams Family!
