Cully Hamner has drawn many things for many publishers, but he’s probably best known for co-creating Jaime Reyes (DC Comics’ current Blue Beetle, recently adapted into a Warner Bros. feature film); his creator-owned comic Red (also adapted as a pair of hit Bruce Willis films); and a list of credits at DC about as long as your leg — most recently as cover artist on numerous titles across the Batman and Superman lines, as well as the new Blue Beetle: Graduation Day, and interiors on books like Detective Comics, Superman Red & Blue, and Blue and Gold. At Marvel, he’s provided a ton of covers for the Spider-Man titles, Black Panther vs. Deadpool, War of the Realms, Yondu, M.O.D.O.K., Planet of the Apes, Aliens, and the Joe Fixit series. Also coming up are covers for BOOM!, AWA, Tiny Onion, Mad Cave, and many other publishers. His next major projects are Ruby Actual with Greg Rucka at Image Comics and as regular cover artist on DC’s new JSA series by Jeff Lemire and Diego Olortegui.

Nikkol Jelenic is an American horror illustrator, comic book creator, and cover artist. While creating fantastic and gory tales for her own comics and freelancing pin ups and painted canvas works, she continues collaborating with other independent authors and artists that share the same genre interests.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson broke into comics in 2015 with the BOOM! Studios miniseries Last Sons of America and Warlords of Appalachia, leading him to DC Comics and Marvel, where he is best known for his acclaimed work on Superman and Action Comics, Marvel’s Alien series, Green Lantern: War Journal, and his current fan-favorite run on The Incredible Hulk. He has also written such characters/titles as Aquaman, Captain America, Marvel Zombies: Resurrection, Extreme Carnage, and his creator-owned series The Fellspyre Chronicles at DC Black Label and Crocodile Black at BOOM! Studios. Johnson has also been published with Archaia, IDW, Aftershock, Dynamite, and Scout Comics.

You may remember Jeff McClelland from that one time you were in the grocery store, and you were checking out with a lot of items, and you heard the one guy behind you in line (with only a few items in his cart) sigh audibly in a way that seemed intentional. That was Jeff, and he does not apologize for it. Jeff has worked as a writer, editor, letterer, and designer on books like The Tick (New England Comics), the Eisner-nominated The Illustrated Al: The Songs of “Weird Al” Yankovic (Z2 Comics), Sister Powers (Keenspot Entertainment), the New York Times bestselling FUBAR series (FUBAR Press), the award-winning Flutter Collection (Dark Horse Comics), and his self-published Planet Comics anthology. Ian Chase Nichols is a comic book artist, creator, writer, and designer. Whose comic book art and writing credits include The Tick (NEC), TMNT/Batman Adventures (DC and IDW), Conan the Barbarian (Titan), TMNT (IDW), TMNT Animated Adventures (IDW), TMNT Universe (IDW), Red Sonja (Dynamite), Usagi Yojimbo (IDW), Vampirella (Dynamite), Go! Go! Power Rangers (BOOM!), GI Joe (IDW), Cyber Specter (Scout), Planet Comics (Wagon Wheel), IRONFACE, The Axe of Hellena (Fat Cat Funnies), Imaginary Drugs (IDW), Wally and Tessie (Boston Red Sox/MLB), and he is currently working on his creator-owned graphic novel Undersea Hero.

A noted comic book editor, publisher, and writer covering over three decades, Joe Pruett has been nominated for numerous Eisner, Harvey, and Eagle awards. He is also known for the anthology series Negative Burn and his work at Marvel, where he wrote various X-Men family titles. Most recently, Joe has been the Publisher/COO of AfterShock Comics and writer of the Black-Eyed Kids horror series.

Peter Rostovsky is a Russian-born artist and writer who emigrated from the former Soviet Union as a political refugee in 1980. His paintings and fine art have been shown widely in the US and abroad and exhibited at museum venues such as PS1/MoMA, The Walker Art Center, MCA Santa Barbara, Artpace, The Blanton Museum of Art, S.M.A.K. Ghent, as well as a host of private galleries. His writing — often under the pen name David Geers — has appeared in the magazines October, Fillip, BOMB, The Third Rail Quarterly, The Brooklyn Rail, Unbag, and Frieze, and spans cultural criticism, art writing, and fiction. Meanwhile, his illustrated fiction and comics-based work has appeared in the Third Rail Quarterly, Unbag, Topic, in Devil’s Due’s much publicized Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force and Talk Bernie to Me anthologies, as well as the Ringo Award-nominated Pandemix anthology. Rostovsky teaches at NYU, Parsons New School, and Lesley Art + Design. His debut graphic novel, Damnation Diaries, was released with Uncivilized Books in June 2023.

Dean Haspiel, Charlie McElvy, and Peter Rostovsky are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

The 24th annual Baltimore Comic-Con returns to the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center on September 8-10, 2023. The Baltimore Comic-Con has announced the appearance of comic guests Dean Haspiel, Charlie McElvy, and Peter Rostovsky. Purchase your tickets online to avoid ticket counter lines at the event.

Dean Haspiel

Brandishing deep cuts of Covid Cop and Billy Dogma, Dean Haspiel will also be debuting his new character, Chest Face in The Spider-Squirrel & Trash Panda Titan-Sized Special #1, a Baltimore Comic-Con exclusive published by Xion Universe co-creator, Charlie McElvy, aided and abetted by his wife, Suzanne “The Librarian” McElvy. Meanwhile, Peter Rostovsky balances their cabal with his debut graphic novel, the critically acclaimed horror comedy, Damnation Diaries.

Emmy and Ringo Award-winning cartoonist Dean Haspiel is best known for creating Billy Dogma, The Red Hook, and Covid Cop, collaborating with Harvey Pekar and Jonathan Ames, and illustrating for HBO’s Bored to Death. His published work includes writing and drawing for Marvel, DC/Vertigo, Archie, Image, and WEBTOON on comics such as The Fox, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Wildcat, and Godzilla. In addition, Haspiel is an accomplished playwright, emerging filmmaker, and Yaddo fellow. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Covid Cop is a pandemic-inspired antihero, an officer of the law named Lincoln Bio who’s trying to save what’s left of humanity…and his marriage. Billy Dogma and Jane Legit is a psychedelic romance gone galactic between a dumb-luck bruiser and his knock-em-dead dame. Chest Face is Haspiel’s latest creation, a weird-noir homage to monsters and stand-up comedy.

Charlie McElvy

Charlie McElvy is the head writer and creator of Spider-Squirrel, Trash Panda, and most of the characters within the Xion Universe. Charlie wrote and published the Ogre Award-winning and Ennie Award-nominated RPG supplement The WatchGuard Sourcebook, as well as the follow-up comic book, The WatchGuard #0. He’s the husband of one amazing woman and the father of seven incredible children (yes, really…). He is an athlete that has appeared in Premier Protein commercials, featured in Men’s Health magazine online, and has competed on the TV show American Ninja Warrior.

The Spider-Squirrel & Trash Panda Titan-Sized Special #1 is an homage to classic 80-page giants of old. This special edition bridges volumes one and two of Spider-Squirrel and introduces readers to a whole new herd of heroes and villains from across the Xion Universe! The main story is a brand-new tale featuring our titular Dysfunctional Duo™ as they take on individual adventures. Christa Cassano

Christa Cassano is an award winning artist currently residing in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and she has been an Artist-in-Residence at IAIA, Yaddo, and The Atlantic Center for the Arts, a regular contributor to comix anthologies, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force, RESIST!, and A.P.B.- Artist Against Police Brutality. Emmy and Ringo Award-winning cartoonist Dean Haspiel is best known for creating Billy Dogma and The Red Hook and illustrating for HBO’s “Bored to Death.” His published work includes The Fox, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool, Batman ’66, Wonder Woman, Godzilla, Mars Attacks!, Heavy Metal, SpongeBob SquarePants, Popeye, and American Splendor. He has collaborated with Harvey Pekar, Jonathan Ames, Inverna Lockpez, Jay Lynch, Jonathan Lethem, Stoya, and Stan Lee. In addition, Haspiel is an accomplished playwright and Yaddo fellow. Dave Proch is a native of west Philadelphia and was published in the Locust Moon Press anthology books, Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream, Once Upon a Time Machine, and various issues of their Quarter Moonanthology series. He self-publishes Mango Lizard, as well as The Homecoming King. He’ll be drawing 5 dollar business card size paintings of your favorite characters throughout the weekend.

Peter Rostovsky is a Russian-born artist and writer whose art has been shown widely in the US and abroad at museum venues such as PS1/MoMA, The Walker Art Center, MCA Santa Barbara, Artpace, The Blanton Museum of Art, S.M.A.K., and a host of private galleries. His art criticism, under the pen name David Geers, has appeared in the magazines October, BOMB, The Brooklyn Rail, and Frieze. Meanwhile, his comics-based work has appeared in the Third Rail Quarterly, Unbag, Topic, and Devil’s Due’s Talk Bernie To Me!, and the acclaimed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force, where his contribution was highlighted by the New York Times, Vice, and other media outlets. At Baltimore Comic-Con, Rostovsky will be giving a sneak peak into his first major graphic novel: Damnation Diaries.

David Trustman is an Indy comix writer/artist, mnemonist, and TEDx speaker. He is the co-creator and artist of the groundbreaking graphic series The Memory Arts which teaches ancient mnemonic (memory) techniques through vibrant watercolor imagery, and has been called “…one of the most important books in magic…ever!” (Vanish Magazine, May 2018). David got his start in indy comix as writer/artist of The Rise, Welcome to Karma Springs, and GOD Slap. David’s new comic Theuth: Totem Quest is debuting at Baltimore Comic-Con!

Writer/ Artist Sarah Trustman broke into the publishing scene with her co-creation, The Memory Arts. The renowned series teaches mnemonics (the ancient art of memory) through fun, modern, graphic storytelling. Devil’s Due Wants you to Talk Bernie to Me!

Talk Bernie To Me!:​ The Bernie Sanders Special and AOC Surprise

After making international headlines with its superhero comic about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chicago’s Devil’s Due Comics has announced a sequel is now available for pre-order. Talk Bernie To Me!:​ The Bernie Sanders Special and AOC Surprise is a one-off commemorative comic celebrating two-time Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, featuring contributions from several acclaimed and award-winning writers/artists. (Variant covers are also available.) 

In addition to depicting the Vermont Senator as a full-fledged  superhero, Talk Bernie To Me! will be chock full of short-form Bernie comics, Trump and GOP skewering, plus satirical games and puzzles. The comic is slated for a July 3, 2019 release (in both physical and digital form), and by popular demand will include additional AOC content. Pre-orders can be made at BernieComic.com, with a portion of all sales going to the ACLU and RaicesTexas.org, which provides free and low-cost legal services to under-served immigrant children, families, and refugees.

Talk Bernie to Me! features contributions from Josh Baylock, Tim Seeley, Hoyt Silva, Marguerite Dabaie, K. The announcement comes mere weeks after Devil’s Due announced its Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez And The Freshman Force comic (available here as of May 15), and ten years after the debut of its wildly-popular Barack the Barbarian graphic novel series. All three titles are the brainchild of artist and Devil’s Due Publisher Josh Blaylock, ​working in tandem with an all-star group of talent.
