The Mushroom Knight Returns with its Third Volume in 2026

Mad Cave Studios brings readers The Mushroom Knight Vol. 3, the highly anticipated conclusion of creator Oliver Bly’s beloved ethereal graphic novel fantasy series!

Picking up from where The Mushroom Knight Volume 2 left off, this latest story continues the epic journey of Mushroom Knight Gowlitrot and his endearing human friend, Lemuelle. Mysteries abound as the Hashkasha’da ritual looms–a ritual that will rid the Wissahickon of trash so long as the fae community offers up a substantial sacrifice of their own. Before this story ends, that sacrifice will be made, Lem will face her fears, a conspiracy will tighten its grip on the Gödel and human communities of Philadelphia…and Gowli will be in more danger than he’s been in before!

Bly has quickly become one of comics’ most distinctive voices, blending ecological wonder with dreamlike storytelling. In 2024, his debut volume won the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award at the Eisners and the Next Generation Indie Book Award, introducing readers to an ontological urban faerie tale unlike anything else on the shelves, and in the years since, the artistry has been recognized on an even broader stage, most recently as the illustrator of the official 2025 San Diego Comic-Con International Events Quick Guide. With his uniquely ‘fungal’ aesthetic, Oliver Bly is steadily carving out his place as one of the most imaginative and valuable creators in contemporary comics.

The 2024 Russ Manning Award Nominees Have Been Announced

Comic-Con has announced the 2024 nominees for the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award (the Manning Award). The nominees were chosen by a panel consisting of members of Comic-Con International and a San Diego comics retailer. The winner will be decided by past Manning award winners and Russ Manning assistants.

The award has been given out each year since 1982 and is presented to an artist who is early in their career and shows superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics.

The award is named for Russ Manning, , the artist best known for his work on the Tarzan and Star Wars newspaper strips and the Magnus, Robot Fighter.

Past recipients include Jan Duursema, Steve Rude, Scott McCloud, Art Adams, Eric Shanower, Dan Brereton, Jeff Smith, Gene Ha, David Petersen, Eleanor Davis, Tyler Crook, Dan Mora, Anne Szabala, Zoe Thorogood, and Greg Smallwood, to name a few.

The recipient will be announced during the Eisner Awards which will take place on July 26 at Comic-Con in San Diego.

The exciting second installment will find magnificent mycelium meandering through the forest in an all-new adventure.

An adolescent girl named Lem searches the deep dark woods for her missing dog, entangling her destiny with a chivalrous mushroom faerie named Gowlitrot on a mystical quest to protect the biome from catastrophic ruin.

As their friendship develops, Gowlitrot pledges to aid Lem in a quest to discover the fate of her missing dog, but as the search progresses, they uncover perilous betrayals that challenge the foundation of each of their worlds—both inner and outer. The natural world may never appear the same again.
