Not really comic book related, but rather interesting….

2012 Election Merchandise Poll and Infographic Shows Most Interesting, Engaging Candidates

Zazzle Study of 25 Million Monthly E-Commerce Consumers Identifies Voter Behavior and Highlights Recent Changes in Public Sentiment Towards Presidential Candidates

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Zazzle today announced its findings from the 2012 Election Merchandise Poll. With more than 25 million monthly site visitors, the world’s largest e-commerce customization company analyzed consumer search, product design, and purchasing behaviors to identify voter engagement and sentiment for the remaining GOP presidential candidates and incumbent Democrat, Barack Obama.

Based on two months of consumer data, all findings from the recent study are available in a new political infographic that charts candidate popularity over time, compares positive- vs. negative-themed sales and designs, and highlights the top political products.

“Massive amount of voters, including millions of users on Zazzle, physically express their ideas and opinions through online merchandise customization – this is a similar test of sentiment when compared to the use of Twitter and Facebook as platforms to express opinions through text,” said Josh Neuman, Zazzle’s head of political merchandising and analyses.

Voter Sentiment through E-Commerce and Product Design

To date, more than 3 million custom political products and 1 million political t-shirts have been developed and sold on Zazzle’s customization platform. These include candidate t-shirts for Obama, Ron Paul, Romney, Gingrich and Santorum.

Findings:

  • The upward swing in pro-Obama merchandise sales demonstrates a potential shift in consumer sentiment – of all Obama-related sales, 60 percent were anti-Obama designs in January, compared to 51 percent in March.
  • Since January, Obama has been included in more than 30 percent of all presidential-themed merchandise created.
  • The quantity of Ron Paul sales and searches more than doubles that of Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, combined.
  • Although Ron Paul’s overall popularity on Zazzle has dropped by nearly 40 percent since January, he continues to lead in sales, product design and searches among GOP candidates.
  • Romney has the greatest differential between the number of items created and the number of items sold.
  • Although Gingrich saw a major popularity spike in late January, current interest has fallen below that of Romney and Santorum.
  • Top products show that political satire is very popular among consumers of political merchandise.

More insights into politics and e-Commerce trends can be found in the official infographic and on the Zazzle blog.

Tomorow is the Iowa Caucus… What Superhero Would the Candidates Be?

Tomorrow is the Iowa Caucus, the first official vote of the 2012 Presidential campaign.  Leading up to it a rather ambitious young man decided to hit the candidates with some hard questions.  If they could be any super hero, who would they be?

Mitt Romney – Superman
Rick Santorum – Mr. Incredible
Herman Cain – Superman
Jon Huntsman – Spider-Man
Ron Paul – refused to play the game
Rick Perry – Superman
Newt Gingrich – Superman

I have to give nerd cred points to Huntsman, the man seemed like he could go a while about why he liked Spider-Man, though he also mentioned Batman.  As far as interacting, Newt comes off as human, not just willing to give an answer, but also listen to the kid’s.  Paul I can only picture yelling “get off my lawn.”

Supervillain or Newt?

Supervillains have some batshit insane plans and say the darnedest things.  Former Speaker of the House and current Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has some batshit insane plans and says some of the darnedest things.  Can you tell them apart?  The website Supervillain or Newt gives you an idea or quote and you get to figure out if it’s a supervillain who said it or Newt Gingrich.  I only got 5 out of 10 right.
