How to Train Your Dragon ruled the weekend box office taking the top spot. It grossed $83.7 million domestically and $114.1 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $197.8 million. The original film in 2010 opened with $43.7 million domestically which is about $64.5 million today and went on to gross $494.9 million worldwide in 2010, about $729.6 million today. The series has absolutely gained a following since it’s debut 15 years ago so expect it to have legs after a solid boost in its opening.

Lilo & Stitch came in second place in its fourth week in theaters. It added $15.5 million to its domestic total to bring that to $366.4 million. Internationally, it grossed $55.2 million over the week to bring that to $492 million for a worldwide total of $858.4 million. It’s sure to cross $1 billion before its run is done.

Materialists debuted in third place with a little over $12 million domestically and $3.5 million internationally for a worldwide total of $15.5 million.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning came in fourth place with $10.3 million to bring its domestic total to $166.3 million. After the week, it grossed $39.2 million internationally to bring that to $340.5 million for a worldwide gross of $506.8 million.

Ballerina dropped hard, 61.6% and grossed just $9.4 million its second week. It has now grossed $41.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $23.7 million internationally which is now $49.7 million for a worldwide gross of $91.5 million.

In comic movie news…

Thunderbolts* added $1.2 million to its domestic total this weekend to bring that to $188.8 million and internationally it added $2.5 million over the week where it has now grossed $190.6 million for a worldwide total of $379.3 million.

Captain America: Brave New World‘s run looks like it has ended with $200.5 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $214.6 million for a worldwide total of $415.1 million.

The weekend box office saw a total of 56 films gross $153,673,663 from 32,418 theaters compared to last weekend’s $112,805,126 from 60 films and 34,187 theaters. This weekends average was $4,740.38 compared to last weekend’s $3,299.65.
