It’s Max’s first day at Coral Elementary school. The school is filled with marine animals, like dolphins, crabs, and octopus. But none of the other students have ever seen an axolotl before… and they have SO MANY QUESTIONS. Where did Max live before? Is it true he can regrow any of his limbs? What happened to his old friends? This is too much attention for Max! Hiccup! Uh-oh… Max gets the hiccups when he’s nervous. Can this little axolotl adjust to his new underwater school or will the pressure just be too much? This silly and sweet graphic novel explores themes of friendship, nature conservation, and so much more!

Review: Attack! Boss! Cheat Code!: A Gamer’s Alphabet

attackkkkNowadays, we live in a world where gaming terminology is used in everyday language, contextual or not to gaming and this little guide is a brilliant way of expanding your vocabulary as well as familiarising yourself in the video-game universe.

Attack! Boss! Cheat Code!: A Gamer’s Alphabet, is a compilation of relevant gaming terms from A to Z.  It’s a great glossary targeted towards 8-12 year olds, nonetheless I would say it could be for all ages which is perfect. Especially if you’re just getting into the gaming world and want to know the basics. But, it’s entertaining to read even if you’re aware of all of the phraseology anyway since the writing is amiable and the artwork is fun and vivid.

unnamed (5)Authored by Chris Barton, this book is amusing as well as easy to read.  The terminology is concise, clear-cut and comprehensible.  You’re not going to get bored and before you know it, you’ll have finished this guide with brand new or even refreshed knowledge on gaming.

The artwork of Attack! Boss! Cheat Code!: A Gamer’s Alphabet is pretty awesome.  It really goes to show how diverse the gaming world is. Artist of this book, Joey Spiotto, changes art style relevant to what is trying to be explained.  One moment you have fantastical artwork to help define terms such as Quest and RPG. Then there’s artwork reminiscent of The Super Mario Brothers to help interpret words suck as Attack, Boss and Kart Racing.

All in all, Attack! Boss! Cheat Code!: A Gamer’s Alphabet is simply brilliant. It’s a great concept. Yes, it is targeted towards a younger crowd as shown through the writing and lively artwork. However, I would tell anyone of any age with or without vast gaming knowledge about this book.  It’s loveable, informative and has a certain charm to it.
