Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts Delivers Haunting Legends

BOOM! Studios has announced Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts, a brand new four-issue comic book series based on the Emmy Award-winning classic television show, Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, presenting several extraordinary folk tales of life after death. The first story from cartoonist Márk László and letterer Jim Campbell about the perils of getting entangled in a ghost’s affairs, available in March 11, 2020.

In Scandinavian folklore, there exists a vengeful ghost known as the Myling. A man traveling at night comes across a haunting cry from within the forest. He enters it to find a spirit who demands to be carried to its proper burial site. The man agrees, but as he travels forth, the spirit’s grip tightens… it grows in size…and the man moves slower and slower. Can he unburden himself of this terrifying weight before it brings him down for good?

Studios has revealed a first look at Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Sirens #1, the first story in the four-issue comic book series based on the Emmy Award-winning classic television show,Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, about a cold, cruel fisherman and his captured siren, available in stores April 3, 2019.

Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Sirens #1 by writer Bartosz Sztybor and artist Jakub Rebelkaspins the tale of a successful fisherman whose heart is as cold and unyielding as the coins he treasures above all else, including his wife and daughter. One night he chances upon a beautiful mermaid and bewitched by her voice, he imprisons her, abandoning his family and his life in order to listen to her siren song. But no heart can withstand the beauty of such music for long, and her notes eventually lead the fisherman on a journey to discover what he truly cherishes most in life.

BOOM! Studios and The Jim Henson Company have announced their fourth Storyteller collaboration with Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Fairies, a four-issue limited series debuting in December featuring stand-alone stories by Matt Smith, Benjamin Schipper, Tyler Jenkins, and Celia Lowenthal.

From Jim Henson’s classic television show to the comic series, the Storyteller and his faithful dog have delighted and thrilled fans with myths, legends, and stories from all over the world. Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Fairies is the latest Storyteller series from BOOM! Studios, following Witches (2014), Dragons (2015), and Giants (2016).

In Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Fairies #1, Matt Smith reimagines “The Elf Queen and the Shepherd,” a tale of elven fairies in Iceland. When a Fairy Princess is cursed to the human realm and cursed to bring death with her, Grettir the Strong must discover the source of the trouble and break her curse. Future issues will focus on fairies from Hawaiian and Danish folklore.
