Review: Future Foundation #1

Future Foundation #1

The Future Foundation is back! While the Fantastic Four is back on Earth, these brilliant young men and women are traveling the multiverse attempting to find the pieces of Molecule Man. But first, a jailbreak. Future Foundation #1 is a lot of fun and solid return for a series and “team” that’s been missing for far too long.

Writer Jeremy Whitley delivers a first issue that’s a whole lot of fun. It also feels a bit over the top in that it’s kids doing a jailbreak. It feels inappropriate in a certain way that makes it all the more cheeky.

Future Foundation #1 is a solid start that should keep long-time fans happy. It’s also a comic that has more than enough that new readers can ease into it all. Whitley delivers both and with Yondu acting as a Professor, the comic feels a bit out there in possibilities and the crazy.

Will Robson‘s art is solid. Along with Daniele Orlandini on ink, Greg Menzie on color, and Joe Caramagna on lettering, the kids look like kids. That aspect makes it all a bit more comical too. To see a teenager (tween maybe) wield a massive gun is beyond humorous. To see kids plot a jailbreak and do what they do, it’s hard to not smile. Every kid just looks fantastic and there’s a youthful fun about it all.

Future Foundation #1 is a solid start to a series and definitely has a tone and direction I wasn’t expecting. To have a meta-story about Molecule Man and then adventures on the side, this should be a series that’s a solid mix of Fantastic Four, Doctor Who, and just solid sci-fi. Add in a good dose of humor and you have a series that’ll put a smile on your face.
