This January, ESPN will host the first ever College Football Playoff – and the television channel is teaming up with Marvel to promote the occasion! Only one team can be crowned champion, but which teams will make the playoff? Ultimately, a twelve-person selection committee will decide. But until then, there will be lots of campaigning from the schools and teams still in the hunt.

Marvel has released a first look at the College Football Playoff on ESPN “IN” Variant Covers that will grace the front of 8 special Marvel titles in January!

Why the cross-promotion between ESPN and Marvel? That’d be parent company Disney. Both Marvel and ESPN are owned by the house of the mouse. You can see what else Disney owns at this handy list. We look forward to the future How to Get Away With Murder graphic novels… It’ll also be interesting to see what promotion for Marvel appears on ESPN (if any).

There’s also irony that after a month of variants to highlight anti-bullying efforts, a sport which is having massive PR issues for abuse of women, a cover up of abuse, charges of rape, and more, is now getting variant covers.

Available only in comic shops in the month of January, these eight exciting Marvel titles are “IN” for the College Football Playoff on ESPN:

This October, the no-holds-barred antics of the Marvel Universe’s most unlikely duo continue in Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool #1 – the official first issue of the blockbuster comic event of the fall. Even though this is really the second issue, but who’s counting? Gerry Duggan and Matteo Lolli return for the battle of the century (maybe) as the Merc with a Mouth battles the Avenging Archer! It’s Halloween night in Brooklyn, and that can only mean one thing – disaster is around the corner! And candy, always candy. The names and addresses of every active S.H.I.E.L.D. agent are about to be released, and it’s up to one Avenger and one (sometimes) X-Man to stop it. But is it trick or treat when they encounter bad guys dressed like good guys? Will Deadpool and Hawkeye kill each other before the night is through? Find out when the clash continues this October in Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool #1!

Preview: Merc Takes On Marksman In Your First Look At Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool #0!

This September, the Avenging Archer takes on the Merc With a Mouth in a confrontation for the history books in Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool #0 – the first issue in a new limited series from Deadpool scribe Gerry Duggan and artist Matteo Lolli! This is the Hawkeye and Deadpool comic 75 years in the making! Give or take 75 years! A Halloween murder mystery and ad S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage mission is about to send these two on a collision course with destiny – and each other! Not to mention the desire to one-up the other!

In an interview with Marvel.com, Duggan said:

There is a real threat. There’s a very important thumb drive that’s missing, containing details on the personal and family lives of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. When different organizations hear about this, it becomes a bit of a dog pile.

There’s an expectation, too, with a title like Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool, that there will be a confrontation between these two,” continues Duggan. “I think we make that happen in a smart way. It’s not the same old take on the misunderstanding that often sends two heroes into conflict. We have a twist on that.

Long ago, champions emerged to fight the evil that plagued humanity. Champions that fought for salvation, for all that was good and just in the world. Kind, generous and self-sacrificing – they were heroes. These are not those heroes… Who will win in this titanic clash of Avenger & X-Man? Two men enter. One man leaves. Then shortly after, the other man leaves! It all kicks off this September in Hawkeye Vs. Deadpool #0!
