The Folio Society To Publish A Deluxe Edition of Donald L. Miller’s Seminal Masters of the Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine

Donald L. Miller’s seminal bestseller Masters of The Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine is a soaring and stirring account of the world’s first and only bomber war. Drawing on personal letters, interviews and international archives, the New York Times best-selling book inspired the acclaimed Apple TV mini-series co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, starring Austin Butler and Callum Turner. Now the Folio Society, independent publisher of beautifully illustrated hardback books, will publish a deluxe edition of this deeply human account of courage, sacrifice and the brutal cost of strategic air power. The gorgeous hardcover title will feature an exclusive introduction by Tom Hanks, an introduction by Kirk Saduski, and over 60 photographs, including several previously unpublished shots, all captioned by the authorThe Folio Society’s Edition of Masters of The Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine is now available.

In addition to the exclusive introduction by Tom Hanks, the 728-page Folio Society edition will be bound in printed and blocked cloth
and will feature: a photographic title page spread; 32 pages of black and white photographs; two black and white integrated maps; one diagram; a blocked slipcase; original illustrations from a 1940s B-17 manual stored in a separate pouch, which slips into the slipcase; and an exclusive reproduction of a famous piece of aviation art by master artist Gil Cohen.

In Masters of The Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine, historian and World War II expert Donald Miller brings us the story of the bomber boys who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. Unlike ground soldiers, they slept on clean beds, drank beer in local pubs, and danced to the swing music of the travelling Air Force bands. But they were also an elite group of fighters who put their lives on the line in the most dangerous role of all. Drawn from interviews, oral histories, and American, British and German archives, Masters of The Air takes readers from the adrenaline filled battles in the sky, to the airbases across England, the German prison camps, and onto the ground to understand the devastation faced by civilians.

The Folio Society edition of Masters of The Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine will be available for £100 / US $145 exclusively from https://www.foliosociety.com

Despite her family’s concerns, Binti’s talent for mathematics and her aptitude with astrolabes make her a prime candidate to undertake this interstellar journey. But everything changes when the jellyfish-like Medusae attack Binti’s spaceship, leaving her the only survivor. Now, Binti must fend for herself, alone on a ship full of the beings who murdered her crew and classmates, with five days until she reaches her destination. Art Spiegelman’s Essay Too Political for Marvel

Marvel: The Golden Age 1939–1949 was to feature Art Spiegelman's essay

Marvel has refused to publish Art Spiegelman‘s essay due to a dig within it at President Trump where he calls him “Orange Skull Trump.”

Spiegelman, the creator of the graphic novel Maus, says he was asked to remove a dig at President Trump from an upcoming book by Marvel and Folio Society. Spiegelman was asked to write the introduction to Marvel: The Golden Age 1939–1949 which is out in September and was announced this past week.

Spiegelman’s essay touched upon how the young Jewish creators of the first superheroes created mythic, godlike, secular saviors to address the issues of the time such as the Great Depression and World War II. Spiegelman ended the essay with:

In today’s all too real world, Captain America’s most nefarious villain, the Red Skull, is alive on screen and an Orange Skull haunts America.

That was too much for Marvel who said they were trying to stay “apolitical,” and “is not allowing its publications to take a political stance.”

Spiegelman says he was asked to remove the sentence about the Red Skull or the essay would not be published. He chose to pull the essay. Marvel editor Roy Thomas will instead be writing the introduction.

Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac (Ike) Perlmutter is a longtime friend of Donald Trump, one of the largest donors to his Presidential campaign, and an advisor to the President on Veteran’s affairs.
