Humanoids announces new hires and promotions

Humanoids has announced that it has hired Holly Aitchison as Director of Sales and Esther Kim as Director of Marketing, as well as promoted Amanda Lucido to Director of U.S. Publishing Operations, just as the company launches one of its most ambitious and expansive publishing slates in 2023, leading up to the historic 50th Anniversary of the publishing house, founded by legendary French creators Jean Giraud (known as Mœbius), Philippe Druillet, and Jean-Pierre Dionnet, in 1974. 

The company welcomed Marie-Christine Conchon, one of the French publishing industry’s most seasoned executives, as CEO of its French and European publishing operations in 2022. The company also expanded its film and television global studio operations, now reaching over 40 projects in various stages of development. 

Humanoids’ most recent hires in the U.S. office include Holly Aitchison as Director of Sales and Esther Kim as Director of Marketing. 

Holly Aitchison brings nearly a decade of experience in the comic book publishing industry. With their extensive background in Operations, Sales, Retail, Marketing, and Client Relations, they have been referred to as “Comics’ Swiss Army Knife.” Beginning in 2015, they were a key member of the BOOM! Studios Sales team, assisting with the growth of the company within the book market and library spaces, as well as spearheading digital sales expansion. Most recently, they were a part of the Oni Press team, managing Consumer Marketing, while developing eCommerce and Merchandising. In their time in the industry, they have worked on marketing and selling award-winning titles like Chef’s Kiss by Jarrett Melendez and Danica Brine, the Scott Pilgrim series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora, Sacrifice of Darkness by Roxane Gay, and many more.

Esther Kim began her comic book career in 2012 as a retail assistant then expanded the role to manager and co-owner of the nationally recognized Fantom Comics in Washington, D.C. In 2017, she joined Image Comics in Portland, Oregon as a member of the Sales team. Most recently, she was Marketing Manager at BOOM! Studios, where she worked on publicity and marketing for a diverse array of highly acclaimed record-breaking series including Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR, Something Is Killing The Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, and R.L. Stine’s Just Beyond which inspired a TV series now streaming on Disney+. 

In addition, Humanoids promoted Amanda Lucido to Director of U.S. Publishing Operations.

Amanda Lucido is a writer, filmmaker, and creative coordinator who joined Humanoids in 2018 as they fortified their Los Angeles headquarters. She supported multiple initiatives including the development of the Life Drawn and U.S. Originals imprints, expanding their foothold from the European to the American market and into the film and television space. Amanda began in Editorial but quickly evolved to support each department in various capacities. She now oversees all day-to-day operations of the U.S. Publishing Branch and looks forward to leaning into and expanding Humanoids’ rich history and catalog.

BOOM! Studios Announces New Staff Promotions

BOOM! Studios has announced that it has promoted two key employees in Marketing and Sales teams following a historic year in which the company saw its best-selling original series premiere, launched the most successful comics Kickstarter campaign of all time, published several highly acclaimed original graphic novels, earned three Eisner Award nominations, delivered industry-leading on-time shipping (98%), and secured a first-look deal with Netflix for live-action and animated television shows alongside a series order from Disney+ for Just Beyond.

Esther Kim has been promoted to Marketing Lead

Esther joined the company in 2018, bringing with her experience from comic book retail at the nationally recognized Fantom Comics in Washington, D.C. as well as a stint at Image Comics. In her two years with BOOM! Studios, Esther has taken on a lead role in the company’s publicity efforts, resulting in effusive praise from numerous of the company’s creative partners and more regular coverage in a diverse array of media and news outlets.

Morgan Perry has been promoted to Retail Sales Lead
Morgan joined the company in 2017 and has been a critical part of growing the company’s business in the direct (comic book shop) market. Not only has Morgan launched and overseen the BOOM! Guarantee program for retailers, which set the standard for retailer support and returnability programs, but she was a critical player in the company leading the way in retailer support in 2020. This was perhaps best exemplified by the comprehensive “safe service” shopping map she assembled that received coverage in the New York Times.

BOOM! Studios Announces Hires and Promotions

BOOM! Studios has promoted four key members of its Marketing, Operations and Editorial teams following a historic year for the company that has seen it earn four GLAAD Media Award Nominations, seven Eisner Award Nominations, become a Premier Publisher with Diamond Distributors and announce numerous projects in development for film & television.

These promotions include the following:

Stephanie Hocutt has been promoted to Digital Marketing Lead. Prior to joining BOOM! Studios in 2013 as PR Assistant, Hocutt worked in comic book retail at Collector’s Paradise in Pasadena, CA. In her time at BOOM! Studios, she has taken on a variety of duties within the marketing department including working with press and hosting BOOM! Studios’ first video show Buzz on BOOM!.

In 2016, Hocutt was promoted to Social Media Coordinator and charged with managing BOOM! Studios social media channels. While overseeing tremendous growth on BOOM! Studios social media channels over the last 2 and a half year, Hocutt also launched the company’s first weekly e-newsletter, launched original backmatter in all of BOOM! Studios’ comic book releases, and leads BOOM! Studios’ advertising efforts. Hocutt’s creativity, authentic voice, and unstoppable enthusiasm have made her an ideal face of the company to fans the world over.

Jose Meza has been promoted to Live Events Lead. Soon after joining the company in 2012 as an intern, Meza was promoted to Sales Assistant in 2013. Early in his career, Meza oversaw BOOM! Studios’ in-house inventory management, e-commerce fulfillment, and customer service. 

In 2016, Meza was promoted to Event Coordinator to reflect his new role overseeing the company’s trade show coordination and convention booth. In this time, he has rapidly grown BOOM! Studios convention business, expanded the company’s show presence, and become a friendly, familiar face for fans and industry insiders on the convention circuit.

Sophie Philips-Roberts has been promoted to Associate Editor. Since joining BOOM! Studios in 2016, Philips-Roberts has worked directly under BOOM! Box Senior Editor, Shannon Watters on numerous award-winning, best-selling titles including Lumberjanes, Giant Days, Fence, The Backstagers, and many others.

Morgan Perry has been promoted to Retail Sales Coordinator. Prior to joining the company in 2017, Perry had been an intern with the marketing team in 2014 and was the assistant manager at the award-winning Earth-2 Comics in Sherman Oaks.

In her time at BOOM! Studios, Perry has launched and overseen the BOOM! Guarantee program for retailers – the most popular returnability program in the industry. This year Morgan traveled nationwide for the “Discover Your Comic Store Tour” visiting over 40 stores in 15 states in just 9 months reinforcing her reputation as one of the most responsive, supportive publishing reps and a true ally of direct market retailers.

In addition to these promotions, BOOM! Studios also recently hired:

Averie Huffine joined the company as Vice President of Development- Television. Huffine joined BOOM! Studios’ Fox Lot office in June of 2018, where she currently oversees all TV efforts including the company’s first-look TV development deal at 20th Century TV Studio.

Averie comes to BOOM! Studios from Amy Pascal’s Pascal Pictures, where she helped build the company’s television presence and oversaw such projects as Drifter, written by Mattson Tomlin with Marc Webb directing, and Darktown written by Damani Johnson with Charles McDougall directing and Jamie Foxx producing. On the feature side she brought in the bestselling novel Beneath a Scarlett Sky by Mark Sullivan with Tom Holland attached to star.

Esther Kim has joined as Marketing Coordinator. Kim joined BOOM! Studios in September, 2018 after two years at Image Comics in sales and administrative roles. Previously, Kim was the manager of Fantom Comics in Washington DC, earning national acclaim with outlets like NPR for her efforts in developing the local comic book community.

In her new position, Kim plays a key role in publicity and charitable efforts on behalf of BOOM! Studios.
