Rick Remender and Max Fiumara’s The Sacrificers #1 is getting a second printing

Image Comics is fast-tracking the debut issue of The Sacrificers back to print this week in order to keep up with escalating interest in the dark new sci-fi adventure. This hot new series by New York Times bestselling writer Rick Remender and superstar artist Max Fiumara hit big with fans last week and sold out instantly at the distributor level.

In The Sacrificers, readers are introduced to a harmonious paradise thanks to five families who make everything perfect…by tithing one child per household to keep the peace. Now, as that bill comes due, a son expected to give everything for a family that never loved him—and an affluent daughter determined to destroy utopia—must unite to end one generation’s unnaturally protracted reign.

SDCC 2022: Cherish Debuts! Written by Katana Collins & Designed by Marc Silvestri

Dynamite invites fans to meet Cherish, an exciting brand new vigilante character debuting in her own title which is being written by Katana Collins, with some of the original concepts and designs by Marc Silvestri!

When the blood on the boardroom floor moves from metaphorical to literal, Cherish comes to play. Amelia Fellows was once like any other young woman. That is, until she witnessed firsthand the betrayal and murder of her father by those he trusted. To get her revenge against some of the richest, most powerful people in the world, she’ll become the well-armed, high-tech vigilante Cherish.

Katana Collins and rising artist Gabriel Caitano depict Cherish’s infiltration and siege on the corrupt corporate world. The first target up in issue one is Unicon and its chairwoman Valerie Nolan. A more subtle approach is required, with Cherish needing to hide in plain sight as a staff member – and even seducing Valerie’s own son Conrad. When suspicious eyes turn to her, will she be able to keep up the ruse and survive long enough to get the evidence and justice she seeks?

The Cherish character and her overall story were created by the legendary artist Marc Silvestri, known for his contributions to Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, creations of Witchblade, The Darkness, and much more.

To celebrate the reveal of this exciting new character, Dynamite has called in a team of highly skilled agents to contribute variant covers. Marc Silvestri’s artwork that helped in designing the character is featured. He’s joined with a finely detailed piece by Brett Booth. Eric Canete‘s cover oozes with energy. Last but certainly not least, Soo Lee brings in some cyberpunk vibes.

Cherish #1 is slated for release in November 2022.

Creator-Owned Comics Publishing Platform Zestworld Raises $9.37 Million in Series A Funding

Zestworld

Zestworld, a creator-first digital publishing platform focused solely on comic creators, has announced it has raised $9.37 million in growth capital to “fracture the Marvel and DC duopoly” by providing top-tier comic creators a centralized platform that combines business, community management, digital publishing, NFTs, metaverse events and IP rights management. Zestworld’s goal is to provide a platform that provides a fully stacked product tailored to the comics format and industry.

The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six, Polygon Technology, former TaskRabbit CEO Stacy Brown Philpot, Shari Redstone’s Advancit Capital and Twitch founder Kevin Lin. The Series A funding will allow Zestworld to provide the best toolkit for comic creators to build a successful independent business.

This funding round allows Zestworld to launch the ultimate platform for comic creators to build their business and manage their community. Looking forward, Zestworld plans to continue building its platform and explore additional ways creators can express themselves and engage with fans.

Zestworld’s launch lineup includes comic veterans such as Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Peter J. Tomasi, Eric Canete, Phil Jimenez, and Alex Segura. Creators on the platform are able to directly reach their audience through comic-optimized digital newsletters on their own schedule, without having to work against everchanging algorithms or potential shadowbanning that creators often face on other platforms. Additionally, creators will keep full IP rights to their content with Zestworld’s IP management tool.

Readers can look forward to a variety of comics from Zestworld’s initial roster of top-tier talent. Upcoming titles include:

  • Arc Athena by Eric Canete – “Neon Gods” to their adoring public, ARC ATHENA is the super powered team that the world is desperate for. Curated by the global tech and entertainment giant known as ARC, each member represents the most aspirational hero that public polling data can provide. Athena’s roster consists of characters whose powers are bombastically perfect for their obsessed audience but yield very low stopping force- everything is for “The Show.”
  • The Awakened by Alex Segura, Michael Moreci, Dean Kotz, Jason Wordie – A dark, noir-ish superhero murder mystery that explores what the true definition of power is, and who should wield it.
The Awakened
  • Blood Tree by Peter J. Tomasi, Maxim Šimić, John Kalisz, Rob Leigh – Follows two obsessed NYPD detectives on the hunt for a vicious butcher called the Angel Killer, a sociopath who preys on the innocent family members of known murderers in order to “purify” the rest of society.
  • Boom Pow! by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti – An immortal is awakened from her eons-long slumber by the doughnut-slinging daughter of a nuclear physicist. Together, BOOTY POW POW and KAY BOOM take on the modern world in their own unique and special way.
Found
  • Found by Jimmy Palmiotti, Juan Santacruz, Alex Sinclair – On a deserted island in the middle of the pacific, a volcano erupts and expels an alien object that has potential to change the world. When this event is shared live by the family of scientists already on the scene, global governments see the potential of owning the technology and scramble to see who can get to the object first.
  • Otherworlds by Phil Jimenez – A reimagining of the Eisner-nominated Otherworld series, a sci-fi/fantasy epic about a war in another dimension, OTHERWORLDS tackles themes of family, identity, faith, and purpose, exploring whose voices will rise to shape the future and create the Earth anew, and how we all navigate a world where being “great” so rarely means being “good.”

Zestworld will empower fans to interact with creators directly in an array of ways, including private livestreams, exclusive discord communities, access to behind-the-scenes opportunities and the ability to commission art from their favorite artist directly.

Netflix Wants You to Binge Mark Millar’s Chrononauts: Futureshock

Chrononauts: Futureshock

Netflix is going to attempt to bring its binge model to comics with Mark Millar‘s Chrononauts: Futureshock. All four issues of the miniseries will be released on the same day in October.

The series is a follow up to the 2015 series by Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy. It has characters Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly attempting to time travel to the future but something is preventing them from doing so. It opens up the question as to if this is a problem that there isn’t a future to go to?

Being released through Image Comics, the art is by Eric Canete and features main covers by Pasqual Ferry and first issue variants by Travis Charest, Kev Nowlan, Rey Macutay, and Canete.

This isn’t the first time this has been done. Robert Kirkman’s Tech Jacket Digital tried it in 2014. Publisher TKO Studio allows you to choose to purchase an entire series at once as single issues or as a collected edition on release.

The model is an interesting one as stores have a bit more risk put on them. Usually, stores order future issues based on past issues performances. With a same-day release for all issues that data is removed from the equation. For instance, the first issue of Chrononauts sold 57,465 copies according to estimates while the second sold 33,551. The third issue saw sales of 26,605 and fourth issue was 25,261. Huck #1, also by Millar, sold 37,775 copies in 2015. His more recent series The Magic Order, Millar’s first major release through Netflix, saw estimated sales of the first issue at 158,425 copies, #2 at 33,784, #3 at 29,870, #4 at 27,959, and #5 at 27,372. It’s unknown if this series will have incentives for stores like his previous.

Chrononauts: Futureshock is out October 30.
