Emerald City Comic Con 2024: Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard reveal their Power Fantasy

Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Caspar Wijngaard took Emerald City Comic Con by storm on Friday when Gillen shared news of their upcoming series The Power Fantasy. Gillen and Wijngaard were guests of the show and further entertained a queue of enthusiastic fans eager for for more details on this forthcoming series with Image Comics slated for August.

It’s a world where “Superpowered” has a specific meaning. It’s reserved solely for those with the destructive potential of the nuclear arsenal of the most powerful nations on Earth. There are presently six superpowered beings, and the future of the planet is reliant on them never, ever coming into conflict.

With an approach that sits between The Boys and Watchmen and a music video aesthetic, The Power Fantasy #1 will be available at comic book shops in August and across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Emerald City Comic Con 2024: Knoxville’s Nirvana Comics named Image’s first Comic Shop Retailer Award Winner

Nirvana Comics

Image Comics’ first Image Select Retailer Award winner is: Nirvana Comics in Knoxville, Tennessee. The winner was announced yesterday, Friday March 1 to a room full of comic shop retailers at the Emerald City Comic Con Lunar Distribution event.

The shop was in the top tier of most nominations in sheer volume from happy customers eager to pay it forward to the store they love.

The Image Select Retailer Award is a new initiative from Image to galvanize recognition of members of the Comic Book Direct Market retail community that are going above and beyond to serve their customers, expand readership, and grow a healthier marketplace.

Comic shops were nominated by fans via a form submission and based on on criteria such as:

  • exemplary customer service
  • thoughtful and exciting hand-selling recommendations
  • efforts fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere
  • easy-to-browse shelving
  • attractive and innovative displays
  • forward-thinking customer marketing and out-of-box consumer outreach
  • community engagement
  • robust inventory of & support for Image Comics and other creator-owned/indie comics

The Image team read and tallied thousands of glowing testimonials about stores in order to select the winner. As the first Image Comics Select Retailer award winner, Nirvana Comics will receive:

  • a commemorative medallion to display with pride
  • a spotlight Q&A to be featured on Image Comics’ social media platforms and Website
  • the store’s choice of a gold foil exclusive variant, branded as an Image Select Retailer Award winner, with store logo (limited to 250 copies).

The Local Comic Shop is the sales backbone of the comic book industry, and sadly, the least appreciated when it comes to award recognition. The Image Select Retailer Award is a way to reward and spotlight stores that have done exemplary work expanding the audience, and evangelizing the medium to new readers. Image Comics feels that there is not enough being done to point out stores that are raising the bar, changing the marketplace, and building readership, and this award is meant as a fun way to help repair that oversight.

The next Image Select Retailer Appreciation Award nomination window will be announced soon via the official Image website, social media, and via Lunar Distribution communication, to retailers and the public for those interested in nominating their store.

Emerald City Comic Con 2024: Cosmic Lion heads with Fourth Dimensional and its creator Seraji

After a flurry of recent announcements and fresh new releases, c will debut their latest title, Fourth Dimensional: Seal Your Heart, at Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC). Written and illustrated by up-and-coming creator, Seraji, this ongoing urban sci-fi adventure series blends the bold fun of Pop art with the intensity of Shonen manga to tell the story of a young woman and an extra-dimensional fugitive who face a forbidding new world.

As if young adulthood isn’t hard enough — Ava’s world is turned upside down when an extra-dimensional fugitive named Mon falls right into it. Literally. The upside? Mon turns out to be the unlikely ally Ava didn’t know she needed. The downside? He’s brought all the dangers and oddities of his dimension with him.

As well as picking up the first issue of the new series, fans can get their hands on the debut collection, Fourth Dimensional: Summer Of Fun, which brings together the entire first arc in a 120-page trade paperback with guest artist pin-ups, sketchbook and process pages, and new illustrations. Both titles are available for pre-order from the Cosmic Lion website, but attendees will have the opportunity to purchase early copies at Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) in Seattle, where Cosmic Lion publisher, Eli Schwab, and Seraji will both be set up. They’ll also be selling other titles, including recent hits such as GHOST Agents and Space Knights.

Fourth Dimensional: Seal Your Heart #1 is a double-sized issue containing over 48 pages and kicks off a brand-new story arc for the series. Mon and Ava attempt to unite the fugitives of the Fourth Dimension, but they soon discover some fugitives have plans of their own. Chases, interrogations, and a downtown rumble – Mon and Ava are in way over their heads. On top of that, the Fourth Dimensional authorities are finally closing in on them. With these mysterious forces closing in from both sides, what cataclysmic secrets will Mon and Ava unwittingly uncover?

Fans and attendees can find Seraj and Eli Schwab at Booth I-03 in Artist Alley during Emerald City Comic Con this weekend from Thursday, February 29 to Sunday, March 3, where they can pick up the new series. And for those who can’t make it, pre-orders for both titles are now live on the Cosmic Lion Productions website – along with a range of their other titles.

In addition to their new comic offerings, Cosmic Lion Productions will also be running a sale on their branded apparel during ECCC from February 29 to March 3 – featuring art by Mark Bodē, Ken Mitchroney, Jay Geldhof, and Cory Bowman. You can find all that and more.
