It was a pretty quiet weekend for the comic book industry as everyone prepares for C2E2 (expect me, I won’t be there).  I’m expecting it to pick up as some announcements are made concerning what we’ll be seeing this summer.  Also, it’s NCAA tournament time!  The one time a year folks care about college basketball.  Good luck to everyone in their bracket.

First, our thoughts go out to all those affected by the earthquake.  The photo below quickly spread through online geekdom as evidence the giant Gundam statue was damaged in the quake.  The problem is the photo is from 2009.

By the looks of the picture the green robot probably knocked it over by the way it’s walking away from the scene.

This photo was taken on July 14, 2009 using a Canon EOS 20D.

“Heroes for Haiti’ Forms to Benefit Earthquake Victims

Heroes 4 Haiti

From their website:

Heroes 4 Haiti is a grassroots movement of artists seeking to raise money for organizations helping victims of the recent Haitian earthquake. Heroes 4 Haiti is not an organization, it’s a collective response to human tragedy. We’re asking everyone to donate a little bit of their talent, money or time towards helping those in need.

Please join us in helping our fellow human beings by creating art and auctioning it off for charity by listing it yourself using eBay’s Giving Works program, by bidding in these auctions, by donating to relief organizations, or by volunteering your time to helping rebuild Haiti in the wake of this catastrophe.

The organization was founded by comic creators Mike Cavallaro, Jeff Newelt and CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein the organization is raising funds for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The group’s blog lists ways creators and fans alike can help, including a call to fellow creators to donate art/items or services for auction along with providing a directory of donation links to other organized relief efforts.

100% of the money raised goes towards the efforts.

Check out their website for a list of auctions, or become a fan of their Facebook page.
