Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was in first place for the third weekend in a row earning an estimated $31.6 million. That’s a drop of 48.8% from the previous weekend and lifted the film to $342.1 million domestically. Internationally, the film earned $64.9 million over the week to bring its gross to $461.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $803.2 million after just 3 weeks. The original Doctor Strange earned $677.8 million worldwide in 2016.

In second place was Downton Abbey: A New Era, the follow up to the 2019 feature film. It earned a little over $16 million in its first weekend domestically and grossed $35.7 million internationally. Worldwide, the film has grossed $51.7 million.

The Bad Guys slipped to third place adding $6.1 million to its domestic total. It has now earned $74.4 million after five weeks. Over the week, the film grossed about $8.5 million to bring its international total to $107.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $182.2 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 slipped one spot to come in fourth. The film grossed a little over $3.9 million to bring its domestic total to a little over $181 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $14.5 million internationally to bring that to $194 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a bit over $375 million.

Men debuted and wrapped up the top five with about $3.3 million domestically. International numbers have not been returned.

In comic film news…

Morbius looks like its domestic run is winding down. It earned just $350,00 over the week to bring its domestic gross to $73.1 million. Internationally, the film looks like it remained steady with $90 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $163.1 million.

The Batman remained steady domestically with $369.2 million. Over the week, the movie earned about $1.2 million internationally to bring that total to $399.2 million. The film currently stands at $768.5 million. It’ll be interesting to see how much more it can earn with its streaming release though international grosses are really driving things.

Initial numbers have 48 films earning $75,614,309 from 31,704 theaters. That’s a slight dip from last weekend’s 44 films which earned $91,685,415 from 29,386 theaters. The average earning was $2,385.01 this past weekend, down a bit from the previous weekend’s $3,120.04.
