For a quarter-century, Baltimore Comic-Con has been one of Insight Studios Group’s favorite annual traditions, bringing together longtime readers, collectors, fellow professionals, and new generations of comics fans.
Leading the Insight Studios Group lineup are longtime creative partners Mark Wheatley and Marc Hempel, whose collaborations include the acclaimed Breathtaker, Blood of the Innocent, Mars, Tarzan, Jonny Quest, and Be An Interplanetary Spy. Their fully restored edition of Breathtaker, published by Titan, has introduced the landmark graphic novel to a new generation of readers.
Joining them this year are acclaimed writer and television pioneer David Gerrold (Star Trek, “The Trouble with Tribbles,” Land of the Lost), ComicMix publisher Glenn Hauman, and writer Martha Thomases, creator of Marvel’s Dakota North.
Wheatley will also debut and sign several recent publishing projects, including a new edition of Frankenstein Mobster, and The Caspak Trilogy, featuring nearly thirty new illustrations and a cover by Wheatley. Fans will also find a wide selection of signed books, prints, and original artwork available throughout the convention.
Over a career spanning four decades, Mark Wheatley has created or co-created such acclaimed works as Frankenstein Mobster, Mars, Blood of the Innocent, Lone Justice, Hammer of the Gods, EZ Street, and Return of the Human. His illustration work has appeared in books by Philip José Farmer, Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, G. D. Falksen, and many others. His artwork has been featured by CBS Television, exhibited at the Norman Rockwell Museum, and is currently touring as part of the exhibition Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration from the Norman Rockwell Museum. He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Eisner Award, Inkpot Award, Golden Lion Award, Robert E. Howard Foundation Award, Pulp Factory Award, and induction into the Overstreet Hall of Fame.
Baltimore resident Marc Hempel continues to be celebrated for his distinctive storytelling and unmistakable artistic style. Best known for Gregory, The Sandman: The Kindly Ones, Tug & Buster, Naked Brain, and work for MAD, Heavy Metal, Disney Adventures, Marvel Fanfare, Epic Illustrated, Lucifer, The Dreaming, and many others, Hempel remains one of comics’ most innovative creators.
Writer Martha Thomases created Dakota North with artist Tony Salmons for Marvel Comics and has enjoyed an accomplished career in journalism and comics. Her work has appeared in The Village Voice, New York Daily News, High Times, Spy, and National Lampoon. Her graphic novel Second-Hand Rose, illustrated by Richard Case, is forthcoming from A Wave Blue World.
ComicMix publisher Glenn Hauman continues to write, edit, design, color, publish, and generally keep far too many creative projects moving simultaneously. His anthology They Keep Killing Glenn has become a fan favorite while demonstrating his trademark wit and self-deprecating humor.
Science fiction legend David Gerrold remains one of the most influential voices in speculative fiction. Best known for writing the classic Star Trek episode “The Trouble with Tribbles,” creating the Sleestak for Land of the Lost, and authoring the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning The Martian Child, Gerrold continues to delight audiences with his stories and convention appearances.

Loincloth-clad humans reduced to mute savages, living in cages or in the wild?
